Initial purchases, all from NC, for Gooch's Virtual Pub this Saturday:

    a traditional pilsner
    a black lager
    a bock
    a doppelbock

I'm thirsty from this weekend so a couple of those *might* be tasted this week, possibly as early as 5 PM this afternoon/evening, and the reviews sequestered away at another site...

Nebo Pilsner-quality stuff from the NC foothills (not *that* Foothills )

    More Saturday...

A late entry from last week:

    BBA Raspberry Stout-Hardywood Craft Brewery

    Surprisingly, not local

Credit-a keen eye, the brewery's reputation and a prior review somewhere on Ymm, Beer by accfanfrom1970
Style-it's all the above plus imperialized and milked!~
Format-corked and caged 750 ml bottle, divided over 2 nights
Stemware-my first use of the 2019 Hardywood GBS Complete Set teku glass
Appearance-dark brown center, ruby edges, foamy tan head
Nose-booze soaked dark chocolate raspberry torte
    Mouthfeel-seductive; chewy
Tastes-dark chocolate, vanilla, raspberry jam, bourbon
Adjuncts-Madagascar vanilla, cacao beans, "late season" Virginia raspberries, lactose
    IBU-55
ABV-11.8%; definitely a share or two night beer
Overall impression-another Hardywood grand slam; the "original" raspberry stout and Raspberry Short Kate are really good; this enters another zip code
Ymm, Beer rating-mid to upper cat 3; I think this was about $14 for the large format; worth a search

I grabbed a bottle of this the last time I had a rendezvous with my gal Stella. Looking forward to drinking it.

It's 6.6 ounces less than a crowler so you *might* be able to polish it off at one sitting even at 11.8% ABV, with or without Mrs. Tripping William's assistance...

Yea, yea, I know. Yanking your chain a bit .

Good thing about the 750 ml format of this is that it's a bottle and lends itself conveniently/nicely to a good wine cork stopper to preserve freshness for the 375 ml you'll sip each night.

I've probably had seven or eight, but none recently.

Wow. Anyone want to go in on a 12 pack of Pliney the Elder for $92?

Pffft (). Had that about 6 or 7 years ago when we visited the area. Quite good.

However, it is cheaper than a flight to SF, if you can book one.

    Steinbock-Fonta Flora/Zillacoah collaboration

But, you 'll have to wait until Saturday for the complete review, unless, of course, you're interested in a bit of crazietalk...

I'm becoming rather impressed. Mattman has a different opinion that he shared with me during some texting yesterday.

    WRT bocks/doppelbocks/eisbocks:

They're all lagers, so good for this month's Virtual Pub theme.
