Thanks to TrippingWilliam for bringing this beer to my attention.
Wish I had bought the fourpack instead of just a can.

    Cheers! 🍻
Most welcome. One of my favorite recent discoveries.

2020 Hardywood Bourbon Barrel Cru. Abbey style quadruple ale aged in bourbon whiskey barrels. 12% abv, 18 ibu’s. Mahogany pour, toffee and caramel notes. Nice oak and vanilla on the finish, malty, hint of raisin. “Brewed in the fashion of Belgium’s monastic breweries.” Easy cat 3. One of the best BBA beers I’ve had, right there with Ardent’s BBA Honey Ginger. Drink, support local!

Collaboration Without Representation Red Wine Barrel Aged-Deep River Brewing

    "Johnson County's first legal brewery"

    Qualifies as local

Credit-my availability on limited release day in mid/late January
    Format-12 ounce can
Style-double barrel aged, flavored imperial stout
    Stemware-Stella snifter
Appearance-an alluring ruby edged, dark brown with a creamy, tan head
    Scents-red wine, dark chocolate, coffee
    Mouthfeel-lingering
Tastes-red wine first, then coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, burnt caramel, earthy hops
    IBU-50s
ABV-12.8%;no hiding this with BBA and wine barrel aging
Overall impression-first taste was cat 2, a bit too winey, but, as it warmed, the flavors mellowed, blended and really grew on me
Ymm, Beer rating-sneaks into the lower tier cat 3; I like the peach brandy barrel aged variant on tap and the original both a bit more

Credit-trader from neighbor; thanks, sort of

PBC is doing drive-up/take-out only, at this point. I bought this (along with some lunch) in a 32-ounce crowler, wanting to support this local business. A Belgian quad, it pours a dark mahogany with a fairly thick tan head on it. Not hyper-flavorful, but it does have notes of raisins, fig, and other dark fruits. A little bit of dark sugar. 8.8% ABV, but not overpowering at that alcohol level. Mid-level Cat 2.

As I consumed the beverage for my next review, I had to perform a bit of research to learn what a sahti is:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sahti

Happy to learn something new if possible with every brew I drink.

Jackie Os Soul Slab Peanut Coffee Stout

A blend of bourbon barrel aged stouts brewed with maple syrup, honey, and walnuts. Conditioned on roasted peanuts, cacao nibs, and coffee.

Poured as thick as the BB chocolate coffee variant from yesterday.

Nose is a little bit soy. ☹️

    Thankfully, the beer is not.

Honey and nut hit the palate first, followed by chocolate and coffee.

I had hoped Reeses Peanut Butter Cup. Far more complex.

    Quite nice.

    Cheers! 🍻

    Thanks devildeac!

You're most welcome, but, I've never heard of this beer.

Ima gonna bet that accfanfrom1970 deserves the accolades for the delivery of this particular Jackie O's gem.

I stand corrected; I had a 50/50 shot. Going to have to start labelling my trades. Guessing this may have been part of the meetup at Fullsteam.

    Regardless, an excellent beer.

Shaggy Blue Rug-Haw River Farmhouse Ales and a fun little collaboration with our buds at Wise Man Brewing

    Two locals=double credit!!

Credit-Tripping William; wonderful selection; many, many thanks
Style-"Finnish style 'c*rolina' sahti; Nordic farmhouse ale (see yesterday's link to read about what a sahti is)
    Format-half quart alloy container
Appearance-murky iced tea; moderate and thick off white head
Nose-sweet tea and a Belgian dubbel
    Mouthfeel-soft
Tastes-oh, my; half sweet/unsweet tea, raisins, dates, figs, brown sugar, gin/juniper; wood (not barrel aged), earth/dirt (a strange compliment)
Adjuncts-juniper x3: smoked malt, water, berries and branches
    IBU-18
    ABV-7.8%
Overall impression-very intriguing and highly successful endeavor; quite flavorful, perhaps a "cocktail" of a Belgian dubbel, southern tea and a splash of gin
Ymm, Beer rating-easy cat 3; I'm very open to beer adventures/challenges and this one was quite a gem

That'd be my bet. I'll (try to) never take credit for someone else's trader. I think I've been innocently and falsely credited with an RJ199 trade or two in the past and, he's made a number of truly outstanding choices, that he deserves the full praises for his beer-hunting. No problem at all.

I may throw one of these into the foursome I’m saving for dd, cuz I’m very glad I have three more.
Apologies for not quoting this with my review. I was pretty certain you had posted it and I wanted to drink/review mine "blindly" last PM and this afternoon. Looks like we had pretty similar thoughts. Thanks again for a very thoughtful and delightful selection!

I still have a Soul Slab so I’m guessing you got the other. Never had a bad JackieO’s, most are stellar. Happy to share.

    1. Congrats!!
    2. Yay!
    3. Drink local! (where have I heard that before? )
    4. Doubt cupboards are bare. Yet. Have no idea what's available in your area but it sounds like lots of NC breweries have started delivery in nearby zip codes.

Sadly, Brewery Bhavana sent me an email update that they decided to completely close for the foreseeable future. No more take-out either.
