To start off Ymm, Beer Virtual Pub January 18, 2020:

I taped this note to your door earlier (*):

    From Monday PM:

Bourbon Barrel GBS (2018)-Hardywood Park Craft Brewery

Local for a couple Ymm, Beer residents.

Credit-accfanfrom1970 for local beer muling and fuse's family pick-up and delivery service; thanks!!!!
Format-corked and caged 750 ml bottle; split over 2 nights
Style-BBA spice and flavored imperial milk stout
Stemware-cute little 2018 GBS Complete Set tumbler
Appearance-dark, dark brown; generous and foamy tan head at top of glass
Nose-ginger, cinnamon, vanilla, dark chocolate and bourbon
    Mouthfeel-smooth and tingly
Tastes-dark chocolate (not added), ginger, vanilla, cinnamon, warm bourbon; dark fruits and caramel
    Adjuncts-ginger, cinnamon, lactose, vanilla
    IBU-55, same as the original
ABV-11.8%; higher than the original; oh, my!
Overall impression-as beeradvocate stated many years ago (about the original), "like freagin' Christmas in a bottle"
Ymm, Beer rating-high cat 3; worth seeking out; liquid, decadent dessert in a glass

A tilt of the snifter to thedukelamere for hosting this month's edition!!

(*)-clarification: as in earlier in the week, *not* earlier this AM

I'm headed out to a grandson's 5-6 year old league basketball game for about an hour. Cheers to all!

You don’t have to justify your early morning habits to us; as TrippingWilliam has said, you can’t drink all day if you don’t start in the morning. 🤣🍻

It's a rainy, sleety day in Northwest Indiana... Perfect kind of day to toss a pot roast in the crockpot, kick back and watch GameDay with a beer. First up:

A Barrel To Arms - 8.8% BBA Scotch Ale/Wee Heavy - Books and Brews, Indianapolis, IN

Sweet, scotchy and malty mouthfeel with a nice boubony finish. Great way to start the day!

Just to get started - earlier in the week I had both the Ardent BBA Honey Ginger one night, and (2019) Goose Island Bourbon Country Stout also BBA the next night. Two of the absolute best barrel aged beers, ever. They have both been previously reviewed by several thread participants, all agree high Cat 3.

Still aging a 4-pack of the honey ginger, and have a 2017, 2018 and 2019 of the Goose Island.

I did drink a couple of new ones for the virtual pub earlier, reviews to follow for: Kentucky Christmas Pancakes from the GBS set (Hardywood) and from Lickinghole Creek - Hide the Despot.

    At work today...

I’m the outlier; without side by side, and only having had a couple of each, my prevailing opinion without more research ( 😂. ) is I may prefer the non BBA.

Both are outstanding, would never refuse either.

Hooga from Barrel Chest (Roanoke, VA)

I *think* this is the only beer that Barrel Chest bottles. It is described as a “winter warmer” brewed with almonds and sweet cherries, aged for a year in cognac barrels. Pours a dark brown, with a medium tan head that dissipates quickly. Baking spices on the nose, and a little tart on the palate. Fairly boozy. Not overly “nutty,” but there is a bit of sharpness to it. A really complex beer, with my guess of ABV at 11-12%. Clears the Cat 3 bar, but barely. Should improve with age, and also later iterations should improve (as Barrel Chest has only fairly recently started brewing, instead of most being a bottle shop).

Well, now that you mentioned it, also from earlier (*):

Barrel Aged Honey Ginger-Ardent Craft Ales

Credit-not sure if this is an accfanfrom1970 delivery or a older daughter special; ah, who cares, thanks to both!!!!
    Format-12 ounce bottle
    Appearance-dark amber; modest, fizzy head
    Stemware-oversized Ommegang tulip
    Nose-bourbon and ginger ale
    Mouthfeel-tingly; bubbly
Tastes-as posted before, tastes like a mixed drink, or a half and half Fullsteam Cackalackey and a (retired ) Mother Earth Tripel Overhead
    Barrel type-bourbon (d'oh!)
Adjuncts-might be some honey and ginger in this
    IBU-18
    ABV-11.8%; very dangerous
    Overall impression-a marvelous concoction
Ymm, Beer rating-easy cat 3; worth seeking out/ordering from a friendly beer mule

(*)-clarifying again: from earlier in the week, Wednesday to be precise, and not this AM
