    That familiar GBS nose.

An unusual chocolatey start, with a load of christmas cookie spices before a mostly apple brandy and oak finish.

    Merry Christmas all! 🎄🍻
Our son and I just finished this. An amazing beer. More in the AM as I'm not competent to post a review now.

    Fullsteam Black Forest Cake Igor

Disqualifying that I had this on draft at Fullsteam in November, will this be my first canned/bottled nonspoiled Igor?

[this isn’t news; the first 2-3 years of Igor production, a good bit of it was spoiled/cross contaminated/just plain awful or ahead of its time for a sour soy stout]

    Great frothy coffee coloured head.

Great cacao nose. I state this with confident authority as a friend asked me to take a sniff yesterday of a bag of organic cacao that went into his cherry bounce.

I’ll go ahead and admit I enjoy this on the first sip more than prior reviewers.
I get chocolate, and cherry with a dry finish.

Some cola notes in this beer as well.

    Cheers! 🎉🎊🎄🍻🎊🎉

Glad I saved a can for you. I think two were designated but I ran out of traders. First taste was Black Forest Cake. Second was day or two old black forest cake. Still, a very good Fullsteam brew.

I probably shouldn't have poured that 375 ml of a 14.8% ABV at 1000 tonight to share with our son, even if it was a Double Barrel GBS from 2018...

    Origins - Crooked Stave - 6.5 % ABV

Ruddy brown in color with a strong, musty, acidic aroma.

This is an outstanding sour in taste with just enough complexity. You get lemon, lots of red wine, Brett funk, acetic pleasingly sour (not too sour), cherries, and a nice dry finish. The carbonation is a little too low.

High Category 2 - a great sour - especially if you like red wine and sours.

    Merry Christmas!

This may be the first year since Mother Earth released Silent Night that we didn’t share one on Christmas Eve.

The 2019 is chilling in the fridge, maybe tomorrow (or looking at the time, later today 👀 )

I *think* this was one of our recent traders. Tonight, our son said, "No more sours.' Sooooo, we sampled imperial stouts...

    A richardjackson199 “must try”.

Definitely get a whole lot of Cab on the nose, and if you’ve had a bourbon barrel aged Cab, the nose is similar.

    Whoa.

Loads of chocolate ease into a vinous red wine mid palate and a woody bourbon finish.

    A great stout indeed.

    Many thanks richardjackson199!!!

An Allagash Curieux for this? Hell, yea! I'll call it a draw

I think this was their first try at aging their GBS in two different liquor barrels. One *might* call it a success .

Large format bottle (750 ml) shared with our younger son-in-law late Friday PM/early Saturday AM, easily taking about an hour to finish. Poured the expected dark, dark brown with a modest, tan head. I'm pretty suspicious this one contained alcohol and a generous amount of it (10.6% ABV). Redolent with dark chocolate, spices, dark fruits and booze. Enticing flavors of brown sugar, molasses, amber honey, vanilla, ginger and dark chocolate coat the palate with a warming, potent dark rum (aged four months) and bourbon (also aged four months) finish. Rum baba meets bourbon balls. IBUs roll in at 55, same as the original GBS, but the ABV bar is raised to 10.6% and it is indeed boozy but not in an over-powering fashion. Superb concoction.

That is high praise. I'll have to seek one out.

And just know that in poker, firing 3 barrels is bluffing with your entire stack in 3 progressively larger bets on the final 3 betting rounds (usually with nothing). So I need to find that triple barrel too, just on degenerate principle.
