Given this is about beer rumors, I *think* we have this one covered correctly.

Considering your two and three point FG% (and ABV%) are still pretty awesome, an airball every once in a while can be easily overlooked.

    Format-12 ounce bottle
Style-flavored Belgian type strong ale (most likely)
Appearance-cherry soda with a thin, fizzy head
    Nose-sweet and sour cherries
    Mouthfeel-mild alcohol burn
    Tastes-"light" cherry brandy/liqueur; honey; caramel
    IBU-15
ABV-11%; it burns a wee bit
    Hops-Saaz; Hallertau
    Yeast-spicy Belgian
    Adjuncts-cherries; honey
Overall impression-totally worth the $2.50/bottle, or $15 for the 6er
Ymm, Beer rating-high cat 2; a beer I haven't tasted for about 5 years; will be happy to sip a couple more and trade the rest
    And, let the madness begin!

Amber in colour, white head dissipates quickly.

Honeyed nose with some grassy hop notes.

A hoppy Luden’s cough drop, intended in a complimentary way.

A big beer, tongue numbingly so.

    Christmas dessert in a glass.
    One of Troeg’s best. 🍻

    The madness continues...

Found a beer that was new to me, Troeg’s Mad Elf Grand Cru 2019.

More cherries, honey, and sugar, same ABV.

Pours a dark ruby, almost cola coloured with a beautiful pink head.

Mad Elf smells boozier than Grand Cru.
Grand Cru smells much more like cherry.

Mad Elf is pretty smooth and silky, Grand Cru is next level smooth.

Grand Cru finishes boozy where Mad Elf finishes with more hoppy bitterness.

This was an expensive side by side with the Grand Cru 750ml on the order of $20.

Difficult to say which I prefer, as they are mirror reflections of the other. The differences to my palate are perceivable and yet subtle.

Cost wise, the edge goes to Mad Elf.
Based on smoothness and more cherry / less cough drop, the taste edge goes to the Grand Cru.

A fun way to tip my cap to luburch as a gracious host today.

Hoppy holidays to all- fun discussion and great beers shared. Cheers! 🍻

*ncu still not ringing a bell, or Chicago Heel. Vaguely recall posts from closethurleyfan.

I’ve adopted a block strategy for basketball related posters with a highly complicated formula correlated with (lack of) sporks and outrageous and indefensible statements. Works for me.

I got a lesson in ABV % last night. We were at Beer Park at Paris Casino for a Watch Party for UFC. Our $100 ticket included $100 food/beverage credit. This beer menu online isn't exactly what was on their beer menu last night, but it was close:

    https://www.beerpark.com/beer/

I asked the waitress if they had any special holiday beers. She said No. They didn't have Founders CBS, but they had the large bottle (750 cc) of Founders KBS 2018 (12.3 % ABV). I knew that would be great (it was) so started with that. I tried to get a flight including some Goose Island, but they wouldn't let me include any Goose Island in the flight. So I just got a 16 oz Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Vanilla Stout on draft (14.9% ABV). This was even better than the KBS.

Next I ordered an Elysian Space Dust IPA on draft.

You can see where this is going. We also got some wings, green chili nachos, chips, and guac.

These beers were all outstanding and went down too quickly evidently. During the beer festival I did in October, I paced myself and didn't feel intoxicated at all, even afterward. But whoa, last night, even after those first 2 beers I realized that I was hammered. That had not been the plan - I thought I'd only had a few beers. I learned my lesson to be more careful with high ABV. It wasn't a big deal - we had fun, and Paris was an easy walk back to our room at Bellagio. But this morning I was full-on hangover. Thankfully no tigers or babies in the bathtub.

My stomach is finally recovering, so no beer tonight with an early flight (the airplane kind, not the beer) tomorrow morning.

But wanted to wish cheers to all of you and thanks Luburch for hosting this fine virtual pub!

    What happens in Vegas...

I’m not a doctor, and don’t play one on TV.
My hangover PSA probably needs to come with some underinformed warnings given a lot of drugstores have pulled Zantac from their shelves.

After you are done consuming for the night, take a Zantac 150. Highly field tested in successfully preventing hangovers.

The backstory is a friend’s wife worked at Glaxo, and apparently one of the frequently reported side effects was no hangovers. There may have been an attempt to market Zantac as a hangover cure that was denied by the FDA. This may all be urban legend, did come from a reputable source.

Nutcracker Ale - Boulevard Brewing Company
Pours amber, hint of spice. A little thick on the lips.

    Electric Reindeer - Sun King
Technically this is a brown ale, but I’m going to use it. Brewed for the holidays each year. Lovely gingerbread flavor.

I saw this also and was very, very tempted to put it in the cart but already had a 6er of Mad Elf and 4 packs of Javafruitcake, Javanog, BBA Ten Fidy, Photon Sphere and a Dragon's Milk variant (that'll be my last review tonight) that I couldn't justify adding that to the beer bill. However, after the above review, I *might* make one more trip to Total Wine before Christmas day .

I do recall Chicago H**l and closethurleyfan, neither of whom have posted in a while, AFAIK.

Yea, I've become really, really careful with the ABVs when I'm tasting, especially when out sampling.

Both sound really tasty. The few Sun King beers I’ve had I have really enjoyed. I didn’t know Boulevard made holiday beer; given their reputation I expect Nutcracker Ale was fun as well.

Needed a "starter" beer on Thursday night so I went to Hoppy Endings, a somewhat new craft beer/bourbon store/bar about 1/2 block from the neighborhood Food Lion where I was picking up a few groceries and decided on this:

    Blizzard of Hops-Troegs Independent Brewing

    Local if you're in Hershey

    Credit-memory and $2 cash
    Format-12 ounce can
    Style-winter IPA
Appearance-light yellow gold; clear; meringue-y head
    Nose-lemon and grapefruit juices
    Mouthfeel-mild citrusy bitter
Tastes-citrusy juicy; pith; lemon zest; pine; hint of sweetness
    Hops-Centennial, Chinook, Galaxy, El Dorado
    IBU-maybe 50
    ABV-6.4%
    Overall impression-inexpensive quality winter/white IPA
Ymm, Beer rating-middle tier cat 2; Troegs brews solid beers

I *think* this is included in a Troegs winter 12 pack along with Mad Elf and 4 others I can't recall but I'd think this would be a great sampler for <$20 to learn about several Troegs beers and share/trade during the Christmas season.

And, my final pre-pub offering from Thursday night:

I asked Santa and he approved of this* as a Christmas/holiday beverage for Ymm, Beer's Virtual Pub:

Dragon's Milk Reserve Oatmeal Cookie-New Holland Brewing

    Several hundred miles from local!

    Credit-a whim
    Format-12 ounce bottle
    Style-BBA imperial stout with additives
    Stemware-snifter
    Appearance-mahogany; frothy tan head
    Aromas-grandma's holiday baking day
    Mouthfeel-very smooth
Tastes-cookie spices, dark/dried fruits, dark chocolate, coffee (not added), bourbon, dark caramel, vanilla
Adjuncts-cinnamon, raisins, brown sugar, oats, vanilla extract
    IBU-maybe 50
    ABV-11%; dangerous
Overall impression-liquid cookie dough/batter, drizzled with bourbon
Ymm, Beer rating-I'll slide this into cat 3; very happy to share/trade/store for 3 or 4 months

I'll use this for a tip of the snifter to luburch for hosting today's gathering. Thanks for opening your doors for us today! Sounds like we all learned a bunch and enjoyed it even more.

*-the fat old fella also said he expected to have a bottle of this waiting for him on Christmas eve

I passed on this in favour of the pre game Skull Splitter. Based on your review, maybe a toss up between two completely different beers.
