    A couple of Colorado beers

    (1) Odell Brewing IPA (Fort Collins). Had a 12-ounce bottle, with no glass, because it was the only craft beer offered at the cocktail reception. Decent IPA. High Cat 1. From the brewer:

We took the traditional IPA, originally shipped from England to India in the 1700′s, and made it bolder and more flavorful—American Style. We added new varieties of highly aromatic American hops to create a distinctive bitterness profile and an incredible hop character.
    (2) Crooked Stave Rose Sour. A terrific beer. Billed as a wild ale. Color of grapefruit juice. Nice red fruit flavors and tartness. Easily Cat 2, and at the high end of that.
"Amazing what a minute can do."

Odell usually does a much better job with their core beers than cat 1, but that's from my recollection 5+ years ago. I've never had any of their specialty ales.

The Crooked Stave sounds fantastic, along with the several RJ199 has traded/gifted/shared over the last few months.

In fairness to Odell, (a) I usually like a beer much better if I can pour it, and (b) for me, the crowding of the IPA market makes it tougher to find standouts.

True on both of those for me, too.

    Crossed 22,000 posts, wow.

I can recall when devildeac used to post some pretty amazing reviews on milestone post numbers.

As a side note, I think this thread is as close as it has ever been to LTE post count.

The data geek in me would certainly be interested in seeing how post counts change over time.

Ha! I did at 5K, 10K, 15K and 20K but didn't go back and check WRT 1K milestones between the others. My favorite was the 10K post.

It has indeed been a fun journey. I checked the "top 20ish Ymm, Beer posters" and found some of the usual suspects (), some folks who have stopped posting on this thread, others who have joined rather recently and are "moving on up" and a few who visit occasionally that have posted great reviews that would be fabulous contributors if they'd visit more often. I haven't checked trends on any other threads but note the number of posts/views every day or two, both on the EK and OTB forums.

    Keep sipping!

Won’t have time to head to Kinston this weekend 😢

You're Invited to our 10 Year Anniversary Celebration!

Join us for our 10 Year Anniversary Celebration on Saturday!
We’re just a few days away from our Ten Year Anniversary Celebration, and we're excited you’ll be joining us to celebrate as we turn ten! The Mother Earth Brewing Tap Room, as well as two beer stations located at the Brewery’s North St. service entrance and inside The Red Room (220 N Herritage St.) will open at 11am on Saturday, October 19th, with live music beginning at 12pm. Here are a few things to take note of as you join us for this special day:

AXE THROWING – Stop by and visit our friends from Ironclad Axe Throwing at their booth located on Herritage Street in front of The Red Room! Test your skills and compete against your friends in the old world sport of axe throwing. Axe Throwing open from 11am-3pm (maybe longer). (Note: closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended for axe throwing participants.)

BEER - Beer will be available for purchase at three locations throughout the festival area. Our flagship beer offerings will be available at two Mother Earth Festival Bars located on North St near the stage. The Mother Earth Brewing Tap Room will be serving vintage offerings from our cellar, as well as a number of specialty items that will only be available in the Mother Earth Tap Room! Sercy Spiked & Sparkling hard seltzer will also be available for sale at all beer stations. If you’re looking for a cocktail, stop into The Red Room (220 N. Herritage St) for specialty mixed drinks featuring Mother Earth Spirits Gin and Whiskey. Before visiting the bar, please visit one of our ID Check Stations on Herritage St. to obtain a wristband. Please note customers will be served a maximum of two beers per person per transaction, per NC ABC laws. Please do not take open containers outside of the barricades marking the boundary of the event. Doing so could result in a citation for violating open container laws.

BREWERY TOURS - Free brewery tours are available throughout the afternoon. Tours begin every 30 minutes from 1pm until 8pm (last tour at 8pm). Tour sizes are limited, so patrons wishing to take a brewery tour should pick up a FREE ticket from the ID Check Station located in front of Mother Earth Brewing on Herritage St. Tickets have designated tour times on them and are available on a first come, first serve basis. Deal.

Date: Saturday, October 26; doors open at noon
Beer: anything sour; Berlinerweisses, true Belgians, US sours, Brett/lactobacillus/pediococcus brews, fruited/unfruited, barrel-aged/no barrel aged; be creative/imaginative

I know fuse already has one in mind and I've got one, too, but I'll bet we each do a bit more shopping . I know RJ199 will be on a boat drinking rare/vintage ales at an undisclosed NC coastal location (heh-heh) and I'd bet some will be sours. Who else is "on board?"

ATTN: mattman-you won't even have to break into the pub that day-I might even open it earlier than noon...

    More Colorado

    (1) Tommyknocker Blood Orange IPA. Kinda disappointing. Not a whole lot of blood orange flavor to this. More malt than citrus. Fine to try once. High-end Cat 1.

    (2) Avery Hazyish IPA. Better. Solid NEIPA. Pretty well balanced. Cat 2, but not a break-out beer in a crowded category.

    (3) Breckinridge Autumn Ale. I liked this a lot. Mahogany color; off-white to tan head. Really malty, with a hint of spice. Almost like a doopelbock. 7% ABV. High Cat 2.
