I will be ordering, although my sister is coming in November so I may not be ordering as much if she brings some. Going to be a great Thanksgiving and Xmas.

    Syacamore Pumpkin Latte Blonde Ale

This is waaaaaay more like a coffee amber than a pumpkin beer. Bright gold, off-white head. Really subtle pumpkin notes. A little like a dash of nutmeg in your breakfast blend. Takes some getting used to, but good overall. Low end of Cat 2.

No, this review is *not* about the cheats MBB coach.

I know this has been reviewed before but this is the 2018 version .

I was lucky enough to find a 4 pack of this at Total Wine last month for about $16 so I snapped it up, knowing that one now and one annually, whether shared or for personal consumption, is always a wise purchase.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a snifter in the wee hours this AM showed me a dark brown liquid with a small, light tan head. A whiff or two of peat wafts to the nostrils, along with some dark caramel and bourbon. More caramel greets my tongue followed by some vanilla (not added), wood, lots of dark, dried fruits, toasted coconut, smoke and booze. This is their standard Dirty Bastard, a Scotch-style ale, that has been incarcerated in bourbon barrels for several months. No IBUs listed so I'll guess 30 (lots and lots of grains/malts here) with the ABV at 11%. One could pair this with a ribeye or filet but I was quite happy without any match.
From Monday night, celebrating Ymm, Beer's 12th birthday/anniversary in advance because work/call prevented it yesterday:

    Backwoods Bastard-Founders/San Miguel Brewing Company

I don't think much has changed since January. Perhaps a bit smoother and boozy-er after several more months of cellaring. I think this was released again this year as part of their Barrel Aged Series so, if you see a 4 pack of it, buy it and drink one now and then every 6 months until they're gone. One of my favorite beers. Easily fuse cat 3.

Depending on the timing of her visit, she may well beat my delivery as I think our trip is late November.

    Tangerine Express-Stone Brewing

    Credit-August West; thanks!
Format-12 ounce bottle from a mixed 12 pack
Brewed on/best by-mostly wiped off, unreadable dots on neck of bottle
    Stemware-pint glass
Appearance-slightly hazy orange-yellow with a moderate, foamy, clingy head
    Nose-tangerine; that is all
Mouthfeel-modest bite, then juicy pith and rind; grapefruit (not added)
Adjuncts-whole tangerines (); pineapple (which they freely admit on a tl;dr back "label" that it ain't much pineapple)
    IBUs-WAG of 60
    ABV-7.3%
Overall impression-very good IPA from folks who have brewed them for years
    Ymm, Beer rating-solid cat 2; worth a 12 pack to sip/share/trade

Credit-August West; beer #2 from Saturday's trading session; thanks!
    Format-12 ounce bottle
Dating-stamped on neck of bottle: PKG 08/07/19 EJBY 12/07/19
    Stemware-pint glass
    Appearance-light bronze-yellow; foamy, generous head
    Nose-grapeftuit, maybe mixed stone fruits
    Mouthfeel-pleasant bite
    Tastes-grapefruit juice/rind/pith; slight pine/resin; light caramel
    IBUs-60ish
    ABV-7.5%
Overall impression-another quality inclusion in a mixed 12 pack
Ymm, Beer rating-cat 2; I think I liked the tangerine a bit better because of the citrus-leaning flavors; would have this again

    More from the recent beer-swap

    (1) Cerveza Sin Frontera: Pretty much the same comments as everyone else. The cognac barrel aging is a nice addition. Liked it quite a lot. Really good sour.

    (2) Ardent Honey Ginger. Just wow. The combo of the barrel aging and the spices is really terrific. And really smooth drinking for something that high gravity. Another Cat 3 from Richmond.

I think about the Ardent brew as a mash-up of Mother Earth's Tripel Overhead (likely not brewed any longer ) and Fullsteam's Cackalacky, also no longer "in the rotation."

    We're spoiled .

That pie will be long gone by this weekend. Too early for Ymm beer. I had an Allagash Black with it last night. Pretty standard stout - Fuse Category 2. Both Sexual Chocolate stouts tried recently were better. It was good with some complexity to it. But Allagash has better beers. The flavors in the beer didn't quite balance right. Something was just a tad bitter with the malt and finish that wasn't working.

But I was more focused on the pie which was Fuse Category 3 all the way. The dark chocolate ganache balanced perfectly with the fresh Montmorrency cherry filling and delectable toasty crumb topping.

Oh I have to make that happen. I'm ashamed to admit I've still never tried that beer. And I've heard a million times it's one of their best.
