The Veil A Patient Man

10.5% ABV IPA

You have to be a patient man to read a Veil can label. 🤣

I need to have this now in hopes it will increase my patience when the TV is on later tonight.

Looks like orange juice, smells like dank orange juice.

Super (delightfully) heavy mouthfeel.

Not nearly as boozy as I would have expected.
A mild tongue numbing at the end, other than that no discernible high alcohol character.

You could almost mistake A Patient Man for a weak mimosa.
Definitely super orange juice flavour.

This is an outstanding (and dangerous) beer.

I'm game to try about any experiment Haw River wants to run. Sounds like something right up their [bowling] alley [hint, hint].

As of 45 minutes ago, according to the Bottle Rev Lake Boone Trail owner, this is available draft only/one-off. He gets a Haw River delivery weekly so I'll keep you "in the loop."

Saison Rosé (draft)-Brewery Ommegang (Duvel-Moortgat)

Style-Saison w/Chardonnay ("A delicate blend of saisons, one aged in oak barrels, the other brewed with hibiscus flowers and co-fermented with chardonnay grape juice. Fruity, tart and dry, this lovely pale ruby ale will arrive just in time for summer and will delight both beer and wine drinkers alike.")
Format-half pint
Appearance-cloudy and pink with a small head
Nose-pears, apples and wine
Mouthfeel-bubbly
Tastes-same as the nose; vinous
Overall impression-another impressive innovation from Ommegang

A very generous gift from a coworker.

Super thick frothy head, almost turbulent to the point where it looked like a chocolate milkshake before settling into a deep opaque brown.
Definitely not black, and still no light is passing through the glass.

Hoo wah is the nose boozy.
Blindfolded, this simply smells like rum, thick and rich.

Mouthfeel is silky.
The finish is all boozy rum and dry oak; there is an echo of rum raisin ice cream with some dates, figs and raisin throughout.
The backbone of brown ale is syrupy sweet.

I can’t find an IBU rating on the bottle; the noted East Kent Goldings and Fuggles hops aren’t really notable on the nose or palate.

I’m not a rum or rum cake guy; I can imagine that you could mistake this beer for a rum cake drizzled in chocolate.

This is a decadent, indulgent beer. The 500ml bottle is more than enough to share. I find myself at a loss as this beer would have been a great shared experience.

On a semi related note, my coworker frequents Terrapin regularly and claims to know the brewers on a first name basis. He claims that all Miller has done is infuse cash and has left Terrapin alone.
Nothing about this beer suggests otherwise.

Highly recommended; would suggest if you see it you buy a few- one for now and some to age.

An excellent read. Great info about the buy-out. My experience with our younger son-in-law and his tour and tasting at the brewery a couple years ago would agree with what your co-worker claims. The Nutella and Wake-N-Bake variants he tasted and purchased were excellent products.

Terrapin Wake N Bake beers have been well regarded in our house; been a few years though.

Pretty sure the pancake/waffle/maple syrup variety I had a few years ago puts Yeah, Toast to shame, albeit at an entirely different price point.

Style-this is a variant of their Regent's Rye Tripel which has been rum barrel aged with ginger and lime

Format-half pint order, full pint pour, half pint price; Bottle Rev owner made a mistake with his pour and charged me half price
Appearance-clear gold with a small, fizzy head
Nose-rum and ginger ale cocktail
Mouthfeel-tingly
Tastes-I've never had a Dark and Stormy cocktail but can imagine this mimics it pretty closely with the ginger, lime and rum flavors
IBU-maybe 30
ABV-8.3%
Overall impression-another home rum, err, run, for Haw River here
Ymm, Beer rating-cat 3; worth a bottle/can, or several of each

For now, this is draft only but, the Bottle Rev Lake Boone Trail owner gets a drop every week and he's not going to be surprised if he sees some pint cans or 500 ml bottle this week or next.

Appearance-slightly cloudy light gold with a skinny head
Nose-lots of rind, pine, grapfruit and dank
Mouthfeel-close to a hop bomb
Tastes-grapefruit juice and rind, pine, resin, dank, orange zest
IBU-Gotta be at least 80 (didn't check)
ABV-8.5%
Overall impression-very good IIPA even though I've been tired of the West Coast style IPAs for a while, this is a quality brew
Ymm, Beer rating-middle/upper tier cat 2; this 12 pack would be worth a shot to try 4 different Stone IPAs and trade for some others

Tastes-more OJ; maybe some pineapple and peach; the mimosa is a good comp; a screwdriver would be another
IBU-"I don't give a s**t about IBUs" for this beer
ABV-10.5%; I got a bit more booze with this than fuse, I think
Overall impression-another fabulous IPA from The Veil's weaponry; reminds me a lot of We Ded Mon that I had on tap at Veil in early July
Ymm, Beer rating-easy cat 3; I'd get about any IPA/IIPA/IIIPA that these folks brewed when visiting Richmond or have the local beer mule buy in my absence

A bit of snooping on The Veil website revealed this:

"Triple IPA brewed with raw + malted wheat then hopped with a delicious blend of Nelson, Galaxy, Citra, Mosaic, plus a dash of Enigma and BRU-1."

An amazing combination of hops.
