Probably (maybe? possibly?) my last winter beer linky:

    https://www.webstaurantstore.com/blo...ter-beers.html

Each category is accompanied by several examples/suggestions.

    A particular "favorite:"

    "Baltic Porter
During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, many Western European brewers began creating strong, robust porters to be shipped across the North Sea to the Baltic regions. These beers were often supplemented by the addition of stale ales, which added an acidic flavor that beer drinkers loved.

Baltic porters are top-fermenting ales that offer a smoky, roasted, malty character with a full-bodied mouthfeel. Consider serving them with barbecued meats, stews, and semi-hard cheeses."

Hardywood Woodford Reserve Apple Jack Barrel Aged Imperial Milk Stout -

“This beer is all about the barrel and for good reason. After aging for 15 months in Woodford Reserve apple brandy barrels, this full bodied milk stout is filled to its (apple) core with notes of warm vanilla, sweet apple, and dark chocolate.” Family Tree exclusive.

10.5%. This is a great dessert beer. Not really sweet but the apple is up front. I get the vanilla, maybe some cinnamon. I like it because there isn’t much chocolate, it’s a nice change of pace from most barrel aged stouts. And there is no bourbon, again a nice change of pace. I don’t think I’ve had a family tree offering that hasn’t been cat3. This one is no different. The only woodford apple jack beer I’ve had. They need to do more.

Ok, maybe one more last time list of winter beers, some quite familiar and others likely never available in your area; this one from a year ago:

Last year’s Burial Donut Skillet Stout.

Sat on a can for a year’ish. Perhaps too long in the fridge, but it still aged fine. Pours a more muddy color than I remembered. But still a top-notch coffee beer. Looking forward to the Stella-acquired cans of the most recent release. Burial brews great beer.
"Amazing what a minute can do."

One of my favorites I don't buy often enough. Did you sip it with a chocolate (covered) doughnut?

St. Louis area breweries need some attention, too, this winter:

I don't think they see it as a bad thing....with restaurant and bar sales WAY down, it's an opportune time to rest up, see what they want to do in April...more of an R&R thing...they were very upbeat...

Reasonable. They could always start distributing their delicious beverages to NC; we'd be delighted to help them...

Doesn't surprise me as I remember the hour line they had (with a downpour outside) for growler fills and flights when we visited 6+ years ago. Fortunately, we figured that out quickly and slid into the other line which was to purchase 750 ml bottles.

    A few days late:

    Magnificent-BuckleDown Brewing

Kinda local for they buying/mule-ing guy

Credit-Christmas gift from younger son-in-law; thanks!!
    Style-BBA imperial stout
    Pouring vessel-3/4 pint can
    Receiving vessel-large snifter
Appearance-darn near black; creamy tan head
    Nose-bourbon and dark chocolate
    Mouthfeel-pillowy
Tastes-warming bourbon, dark chocolate, black strap molasses, vanilla (not added) and some burnt, dark caramel
    Adjuncts-none
    IBU-82 (; no way!)
    ABV-11.5% (seductive)
Overall impression-an excellent "early entry" or should that be late entry in the game
Ymm, Beer rating-low/mid cat 3; yea, it's that good; simple and great blending/execution; looking forward greatly to 3 flavored variants

Note: the 2019 version was named Significant and also had 3 variants, all different than this year's line-up.
