That's the one! I forgot the name from a couple years ago and haven't had the "new" version.

    No, you mean Hardywood -

German Chocolate Coffee Cake Foolery, 13.2%ABV - 12 month aged Foolery in A. Smith Bowman's Bourbon barrels unified with all the elements of a slice of German Chocolate Cake and a hot cup of coffee.

That'd be a fascinating comparison, an imperial milk stout with a doppelbock. Wouldn't take too many sips at those high gravities to put smiles on your faces.

Was saving it for tailgating. Now who knows?

I'd refrigerate them for a few hours and pour yourself and Mrs. Nrrrrvous a few ounces from one or two of the bottles; if they taste good, finish those bottles. If they tasted "turned" or "skunked" or like wet cardboard with massive amounts of foam appearing, they're drain pours.
Lickinghole Creek Brewery was "kind" enough to ship me another two bottles. We'll see how these go.

ACCfanfrom1970, have you tried anything from them? Beautiful location out in the middle of nowhere - Goochland County.

Brown murky pour with cherry cola tint. Gorgeous aroma of apples and booze.

The taste is great - apples, raisins, caramel, malt, and brandy. This big beer keeps getting better and is imminently drinkable. Nice sticky mouthfeel. I doubt this is my favorite style but Commonwealth is so good.

Low Category 3. Perfect beer to start August.

Stella already has Pumking in. Not biting. Too soon.
I would have liked to wait until October / November to sample this.

Murky brown pour, no head (hazy barleywine???).

    Apple cider nose.

I don’t regret opening this, at all.

Boozy apple cider, caramel, with a date and raisin finish.

I don’t generally like apple brandy barrel beer, and it’s been a long time since I’ve had a barleywine.

This beer challenges my assumptions on both fronts.

This is the best kind of beer, one that allows you to marvel in your inexperience, and be delighted with a melange of flavours.

Might be the best Commonwealth beer I’ve had, by a long shot. That’s saying something given all the Commonwealth beer I’ve had has been excellent.

An exceptional pick by richardjackson199 and the beergoddess!

    Skol! 🍻

Wow! Better than Patisserie? That's saying a lot.

Can't wait to sample this one-might be in Columbus at the end of August with our son who doesn't like barleywines but this might change his mind.

Took one sip in the glass before reading the can.
This is not your typical blonde.

Made with cold brew coffee, has quite an (awesome) coffee kick on the finish.

Surprising (yes, I should have read first) and delightful.

    Recommended for sure.

    Betio Blonde-Salty Turtle Beer Company

    Four miles from local

Credit-an unexpected fridge gift from fuse on our arrival to the coast on Friday night; thanks!!
    Style-cold brewed coffee blonde ale
Format-16 ounce "aluminum shortage instigator" (borrowed from Jeffery on fuse's Investment Thread) container; I did not know Salty Turtle canned their beers
    Stemware-shaped Dogfish Head pint glass
Appearance-amber yellow with a foamy head; minimal cloudiness
    Nose-cold brew coffee
    Mouthfeel-slight bitterness
Tastes-"blonde" coffee and floral Euro hops
    Adjuncts-coffee
IBU-probably 30 but the coffee "bitterness" might be fooling me
    ABV-4.8%
Overall impression-the coffee hides the blonde tastes a bit more than I'd have liked but not unexpectedly
Ymm, Beer rating-upper cat 2; paired well with a mixed green/fruited salad last PM; very happy to have a second can

Someone simply has to review a Deschutes Black Butte Porter on Saturday to celebrate post #1 in this thread...

    Big Boss The Big Operator

Diverging from D9, and perhaps named after Jeffrey, who we learned today pays closer attention to this thread than he lets on.

An ale brewed with raspberry and cacao nibs. Nice dark color. Not overly boozy. The raspberry is subtle; the coffee flavors aren’t. That’s not a bad thing. It’s a little like a raspberry dark chocolate bar, slightly more bitter than sweet or fruity. A solid Cat 2 beer. Decent, but there are better ones out there.

Can’t remember the last Big Boss beer I had.
I do recall enjoying this one, whenever I had it last.

Big Boss brews good beer and somehow gets lost in the shuffle.

I am not. Yet. I saw this at Total Wine last PM and almost put it in my mixed 6er (plus one) but may return later this week and place an additional beer or two on the roster.
