    Brewery Bhavana Cellar Door 14

Solera fermented in American oak foeders since 2016. Golden farmhouse ale with 2 strains of Brett.

    No head, minimal carbonation.

    Sweet and sour nose.

Can a sour be mild and “super funky” at the same time?

An initial white grape juice sweetness transitions to a tongue tickling sour and ends in a really dry straw and oak note.

So complex- delicate and bold at the same time.

A great way to celebrate mattman91 and amusedcupcake’s move, as well as someone else’s birthday!

    Skol! 🍻

Thanks! Mattman, amusedcupcake, beergoddess, and I are about to celebrate all with a Dark Lord, steak dinner, and some low-stakes gambling on UFC with mystery beer. If I'd planned better there would be a Dark Lord Zoom call, but alas. I hope everyone drinks something Category 3 today. Cheers!!

    Another pour with no head.

    A very vinous nose.

    Tastes like sour grape warheads.

    Really tasty.

Another home run delivery from Winston Salem courtesy of richardjackson199 and the beergoddess.

    Skol! 🍻

    WVa Brews.

First, a visit to Black Sheep Burritos & Brews in Huntington. They carry Bad Shepherd beers. I tasted the following, in order of preference:

    (1) Biere de Jouette American Wild Ale. Nice deep gold color. You can tell it is a sour right out of the gate. Nice tartness. Great balance. Surprisingly easy-drinking at 9.8% ABV. Low Cat 3. Beer o’ the trip.

    (2) Watch’s End Black Walnut Black Saison. My first ever black saison. Very dark, almost like a porter. Malty in a way that farmhouse ales aren’t typically. A hint of funk, but more hints of some chocolate. 8.6% ABV. High Cat 2.

    (3) Bret Def. A standard farmhouse ale. Nice goldish orange. Small head. Pretty well structured. Not overly flavorful, but easy-drinking for 8.9% ABV. Mid Cat 2.

    (4) The Loud. A standard IPA. Bright color. Solid hops. Nothing special; nothing terrible.

    (5) Brunch Date. A Belgian blonde. Also nothing special. A little watery.

    (6) Maibock Heller Bock. Meh. Not very flavorful. Weird aftertaste. My one regret.

Also had two other local brews, one from a bomber and one in a can:

    (7) The Freefolk Brewery’s Trucker Speed IPA. From a brewery in Fayetteville,
WVa. A rather good IPA. Decent citrus and some hints of honey to it. Nicely structured by the hops. 7+% ABV. I’d guess the IBU’s are upper 40s. Mid Cat 2.

    (8) Weathered Ground Brewery AJ’s Festbier. An autumn lager, from Cool Ridge, WVa. Made with 100% local barley. Hints of caramel and a bit of sweetness. Really nice depth. 6.0% ABV. High Cat 2; I liked this one a lot.

I also grabbed a can of Narwhal, just because.

They still had it on tap at Bottle Rev on my journey home so I now have a $4 off 32 ounce growler of it waiting to be poured Monday and Tuesday nights, hoping it'll be just as tasty both nights.

Would a pint glass filled with Simply Lemonade qualify?

Mighty impressive list. Better than I remembered or would have expected ~2 years after visiting the same establishment.

No beer for me tonight. It was a Pinot Noir kinda evening. But I thought of you guys as I sipped. Happy Birthday to someone. Happy New Job to Mattman. Happy "We are one day closer to the end of 2020" to the rest of us...

Lewisburg is about the only town I like in WV. And I've been to a few.
