Coffee cake topped with pee-cans and semisweet chocolate morsels for breakfast this AM. Hmm, that'd make a delicious pastry stout.

Two desserts last PM, one fruity, one chocolate-y; both liquid. More later.

Anonymous inquiry about saisons and Nelson Sauvin hops. Will research and reply this evening.

This is new. Like, first released at the end of December 2019 new. Being distributed in four-packs of 16-ounce cans at Whole Foods. Pours a cloudy/funky yellow color. Foamy head that lingers a looooong time. Sabro and New Zealand hop varietals give it an interesting funkiness on the palate. More dank than citrus. And it grows on you over time. I wouldn’t call it “stand-out,” (mid Cat 2), but it is definitely different (in a good way) from your standard IPA. Looking forward to the other three cans.

Style-can says IPA but it's really a hazy IPA or a NEIPA
    Format-half a quart
    Freshness stuff-Canned 01/29/20 15:47:09 #oohwee!
    Glassware-pint glass
    Appearance-Dole pineapple juice, unfiltered
    Nose-pineapples, mangoes, cannabis
Mouthfeel-are you sure you didn't slip me a beer smoothie!
Tastes-pineapple, grapefruit, THC, honey (not added), rind
    IBU-(SWAG)-50
    ABV-7.04% ()
Overall impression-quite a palate pleaser; very grateful you saved one for me
Ymm, Beer rating-I'll go a bit higher than TW and put it close to but not quite cat 3; crowded field, yada, yada; I really enjoyed this
They have quite a few of these cans at my local Fest Biergarten. I almost picked up one today but thought I would research it on the boards and see what the consensus is.

They also have something called a Minkey Boodle from Thin Man Brewing out of Buffalo NY. I almost picked that one up simply because of the name. It's a Sour Ale aged on Raspberries. It looks like it gets pretty good reviews. Might have to pick one of them up also.

Based on T-dub's review, I'd have bought a single. I was certainly happy to receive one from TW as a trader. Now, I'd consider a 4 pack, taking 1 for myself and trading the other 3.

Sounds tasty. I'd buy a single and, if you like it, go back for a 4 bagger. I've never heard of Thin Man Brewing.

I walked upstairs to work this morning. I refuse to say whether there was beer involved on the grounds that it may incriminate me later.

    For the anonymous inquirer:

"A new arrival from New Zealand, Nelson Sauvin is sure to delight those looking to impart a unique aroma to their beer. Nelson hops are an excellent dual purpose hop that can be used to produce a punch or sparingly for subtler bittering qualities. The aromas have best been described as resembling a white wine "fruitiness" with fresh crushed gooseberry and grape infused tropical flavors. Ideal for American-style Pale Ales and specialty beers."

    Another review:

"Nelson Sauvin, paired with Mosaic for dry hopping, has been my go-to combination for IPA's. Always a great aroma, great flavor, and a fantastic complement to the "fruitiness" of Mosaic hops in IPA's."

    Final quote. Promise.

"My favorite dry hop and late addition hop. Adds a very unique and very intense “dank” grape-y flavor. Perfect for an IPA or sour saison. I typically use about an ounce per 5 gallons. It works especially well when paired with Citra, Mosaic, and/or Galaxy."

Found some reviews that include Nelson Sauvin hops; will post a couple or three tonight or tomorrow. Here's the first:

"Pie on the Weekends-Wise Man Brewing

Our neighbors in Winston-Salem are local.

Credit-my credit card with the first 3 shared and the last one for me
    Style-fruited DIPA
    Format-pint can
    Stemware-if it's from W-S, it's in a Stella snifter
Appearance-reddish purple with a small, bubbly head
    Nose-blueberry jam and chardonnay
Mouthfeel-some fruit, some tart and some bitter
Tastes-grapey/winey, blueberry jelly, light grapefruit juice
    Adjuncts-blueberries!!
    Hops-Citra, Mosaic and Nelson Sauvin
IBU-65 (calling shenanigans on this one)
ABV-8.5% (not calling shenanigans on this one)
Overall impression-nice combination of fruity hops and fruit
Ymm, Beer rating-very nicely executed but not quite a cat 3 but certainly a high cat 2; hope the RVA folks liked this"

Another brew containing Nelson Sauvin hops:

"Curtains V-The Veil Brewing collaboration with Hudson Valley Brewery

Local for dem that brought it.

    Credit-accfanfrom1970; thanks and more thanks!!
    Style-fruited sour DIPA
Format-half a quart of liquid surrounded by aluminum
    Freshness data-08/18/2020 05:25:28
Stemware-if it's from RVA, it's (almost) always in a Hardywood teku
Appearance-brilliant purple burgundy with a foamy red raspberry head
Nose-berries and grapes, plus, more berries and grapes
Mouthfeel-a bit tart, a bit sweet and thick
Tastes-buckets of raspberries, orchards of grapes, a splash of lemon juice and a hint of bitter with a grape must to finish
    Grains-raw wheat, malted oats
    Hops-Nelson Sauvin and Mosaic
Adjuncts-lactose, raspberries and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes
IBU-I'll guess 50 but bitterness here was shoved into the back of the moving truck
ABV-8% (wait, there was alcohol in this smoothie?)
Overall impression-when Mrs. dd asks for another sip or three of a sour IPA/IIPA, it's an otherworldly beer
    Ymm, Beer rating-cat 3.99; I could've had 4 of these last PM"
