I've had 2 of their sours (based on some crazietalk archives): Vintage Sour and Sour Pumpkin Ale.

How have you found HiWire's sours since they started "emphasizing" those a couple years ago?
Hi Wire for me is okay in general, but there really hasn't been any that stick out to me. Mosaic and Lo-Pitch are both are both fine. My wife is the sour fan and I've come to appreciate some of them (and there's some that I REALLY don't like), but the BearWater Passionfruit is great.

I do love me some DogFish SeaQuench and New Belgium's Passionfruit is also very good.

I think Hiwire is a suffer by comparison / lost in the shuffle the same way that Lone Rider, Big Boss, and Aviator (among others) are in the Raleigh area.

There are a few beers like Citra Gose which I’ve never had that I keep an eye out for to try.

Yet another winner from fuse's Maine beer-cation. Thanks!!

Not to be confused with Land Grant's Batch 200 which was an imperial stout from about March, 2017, this is a DIPA and probably better described as an imperial NEIPA based on its light pineapple color, quite hazy appearance, generous foamy head, along with amazing juicy aromas of pineapple, guava, mango and orange and tongue-tingling tastes of freshly squeezed and blended tropical fruit juices. I'll guess IBUs about 60 but perfectly balanced with the ABV of 8% and its "sweetness."

A superb finish to a hot, steamy summer night. I'd buy a bunch of this if they shipped to NC.

    From their website:

"MOSAIC MOSAIC MOSAIC MOSAIC MOSAIC!! Need I say anything other then mosaic up in your mf grill! Just try it. Trust me!"
Even though it is labelled a DIPA, it looks and smells like Saco Batch 200 may have been technically a fit for our upcoming NEIPA tasting.

Looks like orange juice, and smells like pineapple juice.

First impression- wish I had bought more.

Second sip yields orange and pineapple with a surprisingly bitter finish.

No real hint of alcohol. At 8%, batch 200 is a bit sneaky and dangerous. The only clue is a bit of post sip tongue numbness.

Batch 200 just reinforces I am a sucker for single hop beer, and in particular, Mosaic as the hop in a single hop beer.

    Cheers! 🍻

    Banded Brewing Veridian IPA

    Another “near” NEIPA.

Citra, Azacca, Chinook, and Summit hops.

Can design might make Frodo afraid, with a central orange eye.
Neat can art, green and lots of foliage and fire.

Smells like dank orange juice (thanks Chinook and maybe Summit).

This is no NEIPA- the fruitier hops are subdued by the resiny hops.
Mouthfeel is really thin, giving Veridian a sort of hoppy Orangina taste.

A good beer I am glad to have tried and yet nothing particularly outstanding or memorable.

    Cheers! 🍻

Now that I've finished all my personal May and June purchases, I'm greatly looking forward to sampling many more of these Maine beers.

Dirt Nap - The Veil Brewing Company - 8.8 % ABV - 100 IBU. Yes 100 IBU. DIPA with Citra, Mosaic, Galaxy, and Nelson.

This is very smooth given the ABV and IBU. It's smooth period, and outstanding as The Veil always is. It's more hoppy than fresh-squeezed juicy like some others I've had from the Veil. This one is more earthy, and hoppy. And that's a good thing in this case. It's nicely balanced, and really not too bitter at all. The tropical flavors are tangerine and apricot. Enjoy this if you see it and like hops. I'll rate it 4.5

BearWaters Brewery has a largemouth bass in a tank inside the facility. A guy comes in with a stepladder and a bucket of minnows, climbs up and dumps the hapless guppies into the tank to take consumption to a new level! The porter was great I might add.

I'm guessing you didn't share your porter with the largemouth bass...

I don’t think that I could have climbed the ladder as the drafts were too good. Nice place on the river. Can’t wait to return.

The National Forest part of this is attractive:

Ten of fifty, including number one.

All I will say is it is a very accessible number one, which I enjoyed.

Put me down for a miserable 6/50 (), including #1.

This is the last entry of my June beer club 4 pack and a pretty standard gose, not in the league with the Key Limes, other fruits or any barrel-aged varieties but a solid brew and quite the thirst quencher on a hot, steamy summer night in NC.

Pour from a 12 ounce can into a standard pint glass showed a pale, golden-yellow with a fizzy head that lingered a surprising amount of time. Nose of lemon-lime, salt and hints of orange with a mildly tart/sour pucker, some lemon-limeade with minimal sweetness and a bit of salt and coriander. I'll guess IBUs about 10 and the ABV was 4.5%. For about $1.75 for the can, this would be a nice intro for someone for the style.
