Amazingly, there is more. They have reopened an investigation into a murder or hit and run of a guy named Stephen Smith in 2015 based on something they found during the sweep of the hunting lodge.

It’s just wildly insane. And, a member of that family has held the solicitor general position in the area since 1920!

I wonder how many more skeletons are in this family's closet. The podcast recommended above is pretty good, by a reporter (a bit self-promoting) who has been on the ground following the case for a while and has been cultivating a lot of sources.

It seems that Alex Murdaugh guided the two sons of the housekeeper to one of his lawyers to sue him (Alex) which ended up with insurance paying out but the two sons never saw any of the money. Hmmm...
