I much prefer the little pig balancing on a ball in one off the tweets below the snake.*

*Even though it, apparently, isn't a real pig.

Am I a bad person for kind of pulling for the snake in this one?

I dunno. Normally I'm all for wild creatures that have been displaced from their natural habitat because humans think it's cool...or whatever, getting their revenge. But she was pretty composed throughout the entire encounter.

This one moves all on its own, but you have to click on it. (I don't know why it doesn't seem to work at the smaller size.) There is an explanation here.

    MovingIllusion.jpg

"The first thing to notice about Rotating Snakes is that the motion grinds to a halt if you stare at just one part of the image. On the other hand, it keeps going if you keep looking around. So eye movements are important. However, the illusory motion is not actually caused by the motion of the image across your retina. Instead, what matters is that the image be at different positions on the retina from time to time. In fact, a briefly flashed image of Rotating Snakes appears to rotate like crazy, even if there's no time to move your eye across the image."

"Notice that any given disk within the image always rotates in the same direction. Kitaoka, who created this version of the illusion, has included both clockwise and counter-clockwise rotating disks, but if you pay attention, you will notice that each disk in the image is faithful to its own direction of rotation. The illusory motion is always in the same direction as this progression of colors: black, blue, white, yellow."

Princeton researches tried to model what Adam might have looked like. Turns out their process might have been a bit too fast and furious.

I'm not a big NASCAR watcher, but the video game move that Ross Chastain made to pass 5 cars on the last turn in Sunday's race deserves a look. It is, as the announcers said, a once in a generation move.

    Linky

It shouldn't have worked and will probably be outlawed in the future as being too dangerous.

This has been making the rounds on Twitter today... sheer brilliance!

Cue in to the 1:00 to see the start of the Peanuts playing Back in Black by AC/DC
Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?

If you have already seen a parrot steal the ipod out of the ear of a TV reporter during a liveshot, well... then there is no reason for you to watch this video.

I believe it's been in this thread that we've shared updates on the amazing unravelling of the Murdaugh family in SC. We've been watching the HBO series that's in progress now and for those that have been following, it is worth the view. There is some new information and lots of interviews with people directly involved.

If there were ever an article that would increase messing with the toads, this is it. Not only does it spread the info that the toads contain a psychedelic it gives instructions on how to extract said substance!

I thought exactly the same thing. The article could have emphasized the toad and its role in ecosystem, but instead chose to emphasize the drug. Irresponsible journalism, IMO.

PLEASE DON'T LICK THE TOADS. But be aware that if you stroke under the chin, collect the secretion, dry it out and smoke it you may have a religious experience.

    That is all.

Quickly googling to see if there is a business opportunity in breeding toads - I’m sure my neighbors in my apartment building would love that!

    1. Breed drug creating toads
    2. ????
    3. Profit!
