I went to summer camp on the Neuse River. When the counselors wanted to keep us occupied for a couple of hours, we would go crabbing off our pier. Blue crabs. Long string with a rock tied to the end and a chicken neck tied a few inches up from that. Let it rest on the bottom of the river until we felt a tug. Slowly bring it up and have someone ready with a net. We had crab legs for breakfast one morning. Good times!

Just like fish, the best crabs are the ones you catch yourself and cook up right away.

Nitpick - CNN reports that the park has a rule to stay "50 feet or a half a football field away" from the wildlife...

Clearly the park rangers are not football fans as 50 feet and half a football field are very different things. I would tend to err on the side of the longer distance...

50 feet from a rattlesnake sounds pretty safe. 50 feet from a bison that can travel 35mph for short distances, weighs 2000 pounds, and has horns - I think I'll keep wide of that mark.
