I must be some kind of moron or heretic or something, but I actually prefer turkey dogs and I like them boiled.

    I know, right?

OK, resurrecting an old thread, I have hosted several get togethers this summer, and am observing a phenomenon which I shall call The Hot Dog Paradox.

We cook a variety of things on the grill: chicken, steak, burgers, also do some smoking...a local purveyor (McKenzie) happens to make a most lovely natural casing hot dog, lovely crunch to the casing.

I'd say that most of our guests consider themselves to be healthy eaters, are in pretty good shape for their advancing ages.

In addition to the "main event" meat on the grill, I often throw on some of these franks...ahead of time I ask the crowd Who Wants a Dog? and generally only two or three answer in the affirmative. Myabe they're not perceived as The Healthy Choice.
    But this doesn't stop me.

I'll generally throw 6-10 on the grill anyway, see what happens...and what I am observing is that while only a couple of people say they want a dog, if I cook eight dogs, all are eaten...if I cook 12, all or most are eaten...(at the end it
gets to become that usual party situation where people will eat half a dog, then another half dog...eventually they're all gone.

Conclusion is that people can't resist them, even though they may have questions about the health "benefits." Another test case looms this weekend, I'm going to up my game throw about 15 on the grill as secondary options, see what happens.

Anyone else familiar with this routine?
Nope. I never sausage a thing.

About the only kinds we've eaten in the last 20 years have been the Costcos at our tailgates and the Gwaltney Great Dogs we cooked for our kids' summer swim teams.
[redacted] them and the horses they rode in on.

Let's be frank and ask if it's really time to recycle all the hot dog buns.

I hope you limit this activity to times when you are home alone.

Sahlen's hot dogs are the best I've ever eaten. At Harris Teeter and Publix. A product of Buffalo, NY.

We're part of a CSA and we've been getting quite a bit of full bulb fennel. I made this grilled fennel recipe tonight and was pleasantly surprised, in case anyone has the same problem. Didn't completely solve my frond stock but it helped...

...I'd pair it with a nice Hefeweizen beer.

As long as this is dredged up, I'll get it sorta back on topic.
Post from last year I did on another site titled: Potatoes and power tools.

Q: What do you get when you grill bacon-wrapped potatoes?

A: OPK on your door step.

Can add it after cooking. Probably would fall out when cooking, but who knows. Might be time for more experimentation.

I saw this thread the other day and it reminded me how bummed I am that I'm not allowed to have a grill at my condo.

Yesterday I found out the HOA is putting in brand new charcoal grills in the commons area. I'm stoked!

Just wanted to say how grateful I am that the thread title and all y’all are using the word “grill” or “grilling” and not “barbecue” or “barbecuing”. Nothing worse than using a noun as a verb.

Did you have to post your bacon-wrapped everything photo right after my weak sauce grilled fennel and jalapeno post? I get it, I brought a pillow to a gun fight...

I grew up barbecueing hot dogs and hamburgers on a charcoal barbecue grill.
