Bummer, I was supposed to see him with Jason Isbell this spring.

There are not many folks who originate a sound. Merle did.

I love the story about Merle meeting Johnny Cash, and telling Johnny how much he enjoyed being at the San Quentin show. Johnny asked, "were you a guard there?" "No," Merle replied -- "I was an inmate." (he was there on a robbery charge IIRC).

What a bad year for my musical icons so far. Bob Dylan, go drink some OJ or something.

Strongly agree, Merle was highly innovative and talented!

Very true, we're losing icons left & right. Who would have thought Keith Richards would out live all these guys?

I strongly suspect a deal with the Devil at the crossroads.

And I'll add Willie to that same list.

Hasn't Willie spent most his time smoking? That's not going to kill anyone.

Keith was lucky to see 1980!

Looking at Keith, are we sure he is alive? Looks like he died quite some time ago, but nobody told him.

Mick has been telling us that for years. He really wants credit for Keith's band.

Sad news.... Not many outlaws left in country music today. Chris Stapleton is good an all, but nothing will ever compare to Cash, Haggard, Waylon, Willie, Johnny Paycheck, Hank Sr. and Hank Jr.

I will definitely miss Merle. All the good ol' boys who were in trouble with the law seem to be gone.
