Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?
Although he's still iconic in both those roles to me, I most associate him as Harry from Love Actually. Shouldn't have bought that necklace, buddy...
Sad day indeed.
Sheriff of Nottingham: Locksley, I'll cut your heart out with a spoon.
...
Guy of Gisborne: Why a spoon, cousin? Why not an axe?
Sheriff of Nottingham: Because it's DULL, you twit. It'll hurt more.
Im lucky to be at an age where I enjoyed him in Die Hard, and still got to enjoy him as Professor Snape. Mainly because my parents allowed me to watch violent movies at an early age, and I turned out mostly alright.
May his Petronus charm stay with us forever.
No Rickman, no Die Hard greatness. May he rest in peace.
die hard..,....one of the best villains ever...
sail on, man....sail on...
"One POSSIBLE future. From your point of view... I don't know tech stuff.".... Kyle Reese
Hans Gruber and Severus Snape for sure ...
He was a great villain (even though Snape turned out to be a good guy in the end, he was villainous through 99 percent of the series). Also, Marston in Quigley Down Under, Nottingham in Robin Hood and Ronald Reagan in The Butler (okay,, just kidding on that one ... not trying to ignite a PPB debate)
But he also did comedy -- snowdenscold mentioned Harry in Love Actually, but also Alexander Dane in Galaxyquest and Metatron in Dogma.
Sad loss ...
Aw, so bummed. Such a great actor. Such a lovely sneer.
God speed!
Nothing incites bodily violence quicker than a Duke fan turning in your direction and saying 'scoreboard.'

Very sad to hear about this. He lifted many a mediocre film with his performances, and fit into many a great film, as well.
I think Die Hard is the first movie in which I remembered his performance specifically.
But while I thought the Harry Potter movies were underwhelming as a whole (though I enjoyed the novels), he was consistently wonderful in the admittedly great role of Snape. It was instructive for children's/YA fiction that a character was simultaneously heroic and legitimately unlikable (from the characters' perspective, not as judged by reader enjoyment).
I'll certainly miss him.
Loved him in Die Hard, Harry Potter, Robin Hood, Galaxy Quest... it just goes on and on. Truly will miss him. RIP, by Grapthar's Hammer, you will be Avenged!
And here it is...

Who else could have pulled off, "... no more merciful beheadings... and call off Christmas." the way he did?
And he was fun to watch in Galaxy Quest. A kind of goofy movie I've enjoyed watching several times.
Sad to hear he's gone so soon.
