Thread: RIP David Bowie

IMO, if you combined Lou Reed's creativity, courage, and insight, with Mick Jagger's showmanship and stage presence, with Leon Russell's arrangement and organization skills, then you may be able to match David Bowie. He was very special, totally unique, and extremely gifted.

    David Bowie - Lazarus:

    Gosh.

Don't know what to say about this song/video except it looks like he left as he came in. Pushing the limits!!

RIP David Jones aka David Bowie
Always a good way to remember the work of a legend. My favorites:

    Heroes
    Five Years
    Starman
    Suffragette City
    Rock N Roll Suicide
    Life on Mars
The Man Who Sold the World
    Ashes to Ashes
    Slow Burn
Magic Dance - yay for nostalgia!

I think I may have listened to Ziggy Stardust more than any other album in my life. Truly a masterpiece.

    Rest well.
So, this is one of the greatest musical performances I have ever seen. Heroes is an incredible song, my favorite Bowie tune. In this video, it is performed with 4 instruments... and Bowie does 2 of them. The guitar is obvious, but cue the video in to the 2:11 mark to see the second instrument he plays. WOW!

He was among the greatest musical artists any of us have ever known. Farewell, and thanks for the amazing memories.

Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?

And then there's this video from astronaut Chris Hadfield which was done a couple of years ago:

    Even more touching now.

Yeah, I watched that earlier today, and was astonished ... at how old and weak he looked, but also by the strength of his voice and physical performance. He went boldly, for sure. Better to burn out, than fade away.

Other video performances from the album seem to use similar costuming and imagery, so probably it's a themed album.

No poll yet? I think Favorite Song would be all over the place, but maybe Favorite Persona? Include a few movie roles, but exclude his primary stage name.

Finally had a chance to watch this (and some of the other videos he did for the last album). Wow.

Inspiring and confounding to the end.
