Trumbo provides an Oscar-worthy performance by Bryan Cranston. He has to be in the running. You already know him from Breaking Bad.

The film itself is terrific. Usually there is an almost inevitable slowness found in biopics. This one, though keeps the audience, if not on edge, at least waiting for the shoes to drop. Cranston is supported by Diane Lane as his wife. As Cleo she provides a beautiful steady counterpoint to the mercurial Trumbo. Her performance, somewhat understated, should put her in the realm of best supporting actress.

As for the story, it illuminates the Black List years and the mindless damage HUAC did to these so-called communists. It's far more exciting than one might think.
