Thread: Duke song

    Thumbs up Duke song

Can someone post the sheet music for "Devil with a blue dress on"? I need 2nd or 3rd trumpet. My grandson is coming in for Thanksgiving and he is going to try to play it for me.

    Thanks

    Trumpeting along

I don't know much about trumpets, but this should meet your needs.

    Devil Tune

You can even "play" and listen to the music.

This one does show "2nd B flat trumpet"

    2nd Trumpet

There are other sources on the internet, but you may need to be careful re copyright/DBR rules.

I don't think you'll find it in any sheet music (at least not any I saw on a full page of google links that I searched), but the Duke band* alters the melody a bit to where the 2nd main bar (after the intro) is descending notes, and then the end of 3rd bar + first note of 4th shoots up an arpeggio. I like their variation better, FWIW.

I don't know anything about music so I really appreciate the help. How great a Thanksgiving is it when your grandson plays this for you on his bugle? Happy Thanksgiving.

The Duke version I believe was arranged by former band director Neil Boumpani. He has his own music company now. I'm sure he could get you a properly licensed copy. www.boumpanimusic.com

If you want the Duke band arrangement, your best bet would be to speak to Jeff Au, the director of DUMB. I don't know if there are potential copyright problems with him giving it away, but he's absolutely the best bet. I'd help, but all I have are clarinet parts for some of the songs.

Not quite what you wanted but I found this several years ago while planning music for our younger daughter's wedding. Here's a link to the original recording of Devil with the Blue Dress:

    Thanks!

This happened to coincide with my need of some information. I'd like to get the Duke arrangement of a couple of songs (would be happy to have my boosters cover it) for my middle school band. Thanks for the info.
