Tiger, Majors, and this week's PGA Championship

Congrats to Jason Dufner on his first major win! He played very, very well today. Jim Furyk played well too, except for 17 and 18. Tiger, not so much.

My comment above had nothing to do about mental edge, but rather addressed the prior post saying that Tiger can't hold up physically. Regardless of competition and pressure, 72 holes of major golf is the same (physically) as 72 holes of non-major golf. His body can clearly handle it ... its his mind that may be a little vulnerable.

That said, I take Tiger against the field everytime out, major or not. So far this year that has been a pretty good bet (including against Firestone against one of the year's best fields.

There's rough and there's rough. You put undue pressure on a damaged knee and that knee is not the same for days, it's just not right. You start making adjustments, or worse yet, fight against them. Not all golf courses are set up the same. For majors, golf courses are set up to be penal. Penal, we're talking pin placements, speed of greens, short cuts where balls run off greens into water, and, rough that will cost to get out of. Tiger is far more at risk of coming out of the rough with his ability to play championship golf than you suppose. You'd have to have one of those knees I'm talking about to know, perhaps. Don't go out and get one. Play to win, but play safe.
