Ref's bad call leads to Double Homicide

For me personally, I can safely say I have never heard of any player/ref/fan issues at any sporting event that tops this story. It starts when the soccer ref issues a red card to a player, and ends with both the ref and the player dead, and the ref dismembered. Unbelievable.

Incredible. Here's a link to Deadspin's story on it, which includes a little more detail, and, if you can believe it, a link to video of the dismembered body in the hospital. Warning: not for the weak stomachs among us. So much for "only a game" huh?

My dislike of Deadspin only increases with this... Have some decency, you know? That sort of stuff doesn't need to be seen

Bizarre story. People can be just insane.

i would check the link next time before commenting - deadspin approaches the topic with the necessary reverence, and is not hosting the video, only linking to it with an appropriate warning.

Definitely treated as much more than a game by the rest of the world. It's a major element of national identity. I've posted some links to other events of violence, including the murder of a Colombian player after the 1994 World Cup.

Soccer is like a religion and a way of life in those countries. One of the reasons Mexico treats losing to the United States as a national shame is because of the level of importance they place on the sport by comparison. Sure, American Outlaws helps but Mexico and Brazil is a whole different level.

As for the video, definitely not for the faint of heart.
