Tennis - Duke women ACC champs!

In addition to the Men's Lacrosse game tomorrow, both Tennis teams will fight for titles tomorrow with the two squad starting the action at 11:00am Eastern. The Men's team will face top seed Virginia and the Women's team will look to run the ACC table when they face 2nd seed North Carolina. Like today, recordings are supposed to be available later in the day on the ACC website.

Men's tennis matches are the second most intense sport at Duke to attend in my opinion because it is so up close and personal. Especially if you've played or watched tennis for a long time, it's second only to men's basketball for Duke sport I like to watch. If you're looking for an afternoon to kill and be really amped the whole time and wired on your drive home, head over to Cary.

The Duke and Carolina tennis teams don't have the "friendly" rivalry thing that you have with other sports where the players don't take it as seriously as the fans... They hate each other, it's a lot of fun to watch.

Is Cary also the rain venue?

I thought that Friday's rain venue (for Duke) was at UNC.

Per the ACC's twitter account, the Men's championship has been moved to UNC and the Women's Championship has been moved to Wake Forest both at 1:00pm. I guess they wanted to preserve neutrality and not have a match at Sheffield. There is no information yet on whether there will be live video coverage.

Unfortunately, #2 UVa took down the #8 Duke men's team 4-1, with #5 ranked player in the country Jamere Jenkins taking down Duke's #4 ranked Henrique Cunha at the #1 singles spot by defeating him in a second set tiebreak. Still, the team has a chance to make some noise in the NCAAs and UVa is a great team with only one loss on the season. Duke avenged the earlier season loss to UNC in the semifinals, which certainly is always very nice.

And congrats to the women on the ACC championship! Always great to take down the Heels!

    Loss in National semifinals

Duke Falls Short Against Florida In NCAA Semifinals

From the goduke.com account linked, sounds like a great match and a tough loss to a very good Florida team.

In a highly-anticipated matchup between the nation's top two ranked players, Capra, ranked second, cut Florida's lead to 3-2 after she upset top-ranked Allie Will in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. The last time the two met, Capra led Will, 6-4, 5-4, and was serving with match point when rain stopped the match in its tracks and went unfinished. The win was the Ellicott City, Md., native's 20th win over a ranked opponent this season.
Congrats to the women and their coaches for a great season.
