    Congrats to the team!

The ACC was even tougher than usual this season and to come out on top after the regular season by six points is an incredible feat.

For those of you wondering how the ACC tournament stack up, Duke will be hosting the quarterfinal on Sunday at 1pm. Their opponent looks to be Virginia Tech after tonight's results. The winners from the campus sites (new this year thanks to last year's Florida State debacle) move on to WakeMed Park for the semifinals and finals on Friday and the following Sunday. If Duke wins they should face the winner of Wake Forest and Boston College. Interestingly the two teams already played tonight, a 2-0 Boston College victory, and they will not have to travel for their Sunday matchup.

The strength of the ACC this season is ridiculous. Wake is number three in the latest NCAA RPI rankings, and seeded fifth in the ACC tournament. ACC schools are 1, 3, 4, 5 in the RPI (Duke, Wake, UVa, UNC,

Looks like the women's soccer and basketball teams are set to be really good for the next few years with great freshman and sophomore classes.

Do They Have Wombats in Alaska?

Cat Whitehill was the color commentator on the Duke-Wake match. I think I remember her saying that Cobb's post-up ability reminded her of Abby. That sets the bar pretty high for a freshman.

Quite an accomplishment - congrats to the team and coaches. By the way, our first round opponent Sunday beat UNC in their last game.

    Robbie Church

The ACC is crazy-good this year...best conference in the country and it's not even close. Robbie Church and his staff have recruited and coached some great athletes...and even better students/people for several years. Now all graduated (but for RS Sr. Molly Lester..now in Fuqua), his 2007 National Top 10 recruiting class made it to two Elite 8's and a Sweet 16 (best class ever at Duke). Look out...this year's freshman class may likely surpass that accomplishment. By winning the ACC regular season and by virtue of their #1 National Ranking, Duke should get some home NCAA games at Koskinen in November. Sweet.

Church has long recruited the top student-athletes in the country. DWS has also sported a 100% graduation rate and has had multiple ACC Honor Roll honorees for many years. It does one's heart good to see such great women student-athletes learn, compete and graduate with continued success.

Church stresses and expects a high level of technical ability and his system accentuates an attractive, attacking style. His emphasis and promoting of a family atmosphere and a "playing for each other" mentality have created great chemistry and cohesiveness on his teams. His players have always known that he cares about them and they respect his passion for Duke and DWS. With world-class assistants, Billy Lesesne and Carla Overbeck on board for many years (either could be a DI head coach tomorrow), we are so very fortunate. Duke has some really terrific coaches and people in all our "non-revenue" sports. So proud of our school!

All the best to DWS in the ACC Tourney!!

Duke makes a third-minute goal from Kelly Cobb stand up in the first round of the ACC Tournament.

The Devils will play Wake in the semis. The fifth-seeded Deacs won on the road at BC, 3-2.

The other semi will have UVa, a 2-0 winner over Maryland, against FSU, who stunned the Heels in OT, 1-0.

If you can't make it to WakeMed Park in Cary on Friday, the semis will be available online on ESPN3, and on the Watch ESPN app.

    All-ACC

This is a good indication of the rise, and future, of the Duke program.

Anasi, Church Headline All-ACC Women’s Soccer Team

The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) released the 2011 All-ACC Women’s Soccer Team on Thursday morning with the third-ranked Blue Devils leading the squad with six selections, while Duke head coach Robbie Church was named ACC Coach of the Year and sophomore Natasha Anasi was voted Defensive Player of the Year by a vote of the 11 head coaches.

The six All-ACC selections were sophomore Kaitlyn Kerr and Anasi to the first team, while sophomore Mollie Pathman, sophomore Laura Weinberg, freshman Kelly Cobb and junior Tara Campbell were voted to the second team.
    4 sophomores, 1 freshman, and 1 junior...nice

Anasi & Kerr earned their 1st team choice. Campbell, Cobb, & Pathman rank at or near the top of the league in many statistical catagories and IMHO should have been 1st team, too. And Cobb had better stats across the board (see below) than VA's Brian and, IMHO should have been Freshman of the Year. I know, stats don't tell the whole story, but having watched these girls play all year, I would feel they deserve it even without the stats, but I guess I'm just biased. Anyway, Go Duke!... Bring home an ACC Tourney title this weekend!
