I love the National Championship games but I still have a fondness for win #70 on the list. All I have to say is: 82-50. GoDuke!

Whenever I hear 82-50, I smile and think of Miles' big oop.
“Those two kids, they’re champions,” Krzyzewski said of his senior leaders. “They’re trying to teach the other kids how to become that, and it’s a long road to become that.”

With 2015 in the books and 1K surpassed, let's revisit the Top 100 Coach K wins list from Nugget, shall we?

Below is a table I put together with what I consider to be the best candidates for the list that occurred subsequent to Nugget's first posting. The twelve bolded games are the one I believe should make their way into the Top 100. But strong arguments can be made for each of the ones listed below. It is hard enough to pick the ones I think should make the list. Now, which ones to take off list? Man, forget about it...

One conclusion I have reached: as great, meaningful wins continue to pile up and the "Top 100" remains a flat 100 games, this exercise gets more and more impossible (and the list starts to feel like a list of NCAA tournament games and Carolina games - trust me, I am not complaining about this; there are just so many great ones). But, it may be time for an expansion to a Top 125 - there is no shortage of big Coach K wins to populate it.

Anyway, some great memories below. Enjoy.

Thanks for this. Had some very special wins this year. I still can't get that Virginia game out of my brain. I still don't know how they won that game.

With the team that was assembled this year, I'd probably put most of those BIG wins like Virginia and UNC at home (and obviously Wisconsin from early in the year and the title game) in the discussion. As well as St Johns for K's 1000th.

In my judgment, there are two serious candidates from the 2016 season for the list of top 100 Coach K wins:

    @ North Carolina, 74-73
    Video
    Box
    Article
Summary: With Matt Jones out for ľ of the game (sprained ankle) and Marshall playing the last ten minutes with four fouls, Duke just hung around and hung around and took it at the end.

    Virginia, 63-62
    Video
    Box
    Article
Summary: Unranked Duke, #7 Virginia. Along with Louisville game, set tone for toughest stretch of the season. Grayson controversial buzzer beater.

I would love to convene a panel of DBR contributors at some point to work on a consensus list of Top [___] wins during Coach K's tenure. I have some ideas re: how this would work - perhaps in an RSCI sort of format.

To the podcast team: discussing a list like this could be amazing material for at least ten offseason podcasts - perhaps in an NFL network style top 100 players style ascending order countdown (games 100-90; 90-80, etc.).

    EXCELLENT JOB!
I might have tweaked it a little, but it was a great undertaking.

The UNCheat win was nice, but I'd have to exclude it from the list as the team won that game because of Ol' Roys ineptitude rather than K's ability.

Wouldn't that therefore eliminate a lot of Duke's wins against Carolina in the past few years. 😊

I think that game belongs in a similar bucket as @UNC 2012 (Rivers). We were really walking a tightrope there. Having said that, I would have it further down the list (behind the Austin Rivers game), but probably still somewhere on the list - though there are some honorable mention games that folks could make a very strong argument for (and I would probably include them on my Top 100). Ones that stand out at first glance are: @Indiana 2005-06 (hostile environment, Killingsworth gets his, but we shut everyone else down); UConn 2009-10 ("alarmingly unathletic" game), Texas 2009 (very intense game, heads up Scheyer flips ball downcourt on way out of bounds), Kansas 2011-12 (Maui title, Thornton deep jumpman 3).

We have our strongest candidate of the season for the list: Duke 93, UNC 83.

(I'd say Louisville is a candidate too.)

The win at Virginia (#93) was the breakthrough win for legitimacy in the K era. Should be much higher, IMO. Great list, though.

    Bump. PK80 Florida deserves consideration.

Rather than bump one of the others, perhaps slot PK80 where the list guru/committee believes it goes, and have the list be not just a changing thing, but a growing thing (so, more than 100).

Since K has over 1000 wins at Duke a list of 100 may be too small...I vote to let the list grow..
