    2008 and the Dead List

Not trying to be funny hear at all. I'm watching Blazing Saddles and Harvey Korman and it got me to thinking of all the famous people who have passed away this year. Is it my perception or has this year seen more deaths than normal for high-profile figures?

I know at the end of the year, on New Year's Eve, they always put together a tribute for all the "stars" that have left us.

I'm working on a "list to date" just off the top of my mind. Please contribute; let me know who I am missing. I have:

-Jerry Reed (bums me out the second most - Goodbye Cledus Snow!)
    -George Carlin
    -Harvey Korman
    -Tony Snow
    -Tim Russert
-Charlton Heston (was that this year or last?)
    -Heath Ledger
    -Isaac Hayes
    -Bernie Mac
    -Don Haskins
-Skip Carey (Bums me out the most)
-Don LaFontaine (movie trailers will never be the same)
    -Jesse Helms

    Who am I forgetting?????

I figured Wikipedia would have a list, and they do:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008#Deaths

I was shocked to see Brad Renfro on the list -- I didn't know he had died! He was such a cute kid in that Grisham movie.

    Others of note:

    Sir Edmund Hillary
    Suzanne Pleshette
    Roy Scheider
    William F Buckley, Jr.
    Sydney Pollack
    Estelle Getty

I had no idea Gene Upshaw died! Now I understand what the GU symbol was about that I saw from many NFL teams on Sunday.

Ummm, no he wasn't. Willard Whyte was played by a famous singer, but not Jerry Reed. It was Jimmy Dean.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks for clarifying Jason.

Lavabe, you're on the verge of losing your Bond Fan Club membership.
