The new polls are out today (Jan. 9) and Duke dropped three places in the coaches -- from No. 3 to No. 6 -- and three places in the AP -- from No. 5 to No. 8.

Duke has now been in the top 10 of the AP poll for 84 straight weeks, since ranking No. 13 on Nov. 19,2007. That's five-plus years. Nobody else has maintained a top 10 streak for even two years in a row.

By my count that's the second longest such streak in NCAA history, but well behind UCLA's streak of 154 straight top 10 rankings (between the preseason poll in 1966-67 and the Jan. 27, 1976 poll).

The top of this week's polls look alike -- No. 1 Syracuse, No. 2 Kentucky, No. 3 UNC, No. 4 Baylor and No. 5 Ohio State. The AP has Michigan State at No. 6 and Indiana at No. 8 ... Duke ranks ahead of the last two in the coaches poll.
