Didnt Alex Murphy and Shabazz talk about how they would like to play together?
From everything ive read on here and other sites during this recruiting process, Cali is to far for Tony Parker. Didnt he add UGA because he very serious about staying home? I hate it when AAU coaches use kids to get paid.
I argued with a heel fan the other day about big men being used in each Duke and UNC's system. All I said was in 2011 its all about money to these kids and I will put Brands and Boozers contract up against any big man Roy has put in the league including Kansas. I dont know the exact amount of the contracts and I dont have the time or money to google, but I think they were in the 80 mill range so thats 160 mill between 2 Duke big men. What has Roy done for big men lately? Or take it a step further, John Beilein has put Pittsnogle in the NBA so whats his track record of helping kids get paid. Howland has Kevin Love but who else? I dont really get the argument about K and big men?
This recruiting thing has about wore me out, ima have to take a break so Ill be fully energized for CTC in 2 weeks!
Lately? let's see...off the top of my head...
He has developed Tyler Zeller into one of the most productive post players in the country, probably high first round draft choice.
He has improved Henson into ACC DPOY and probable high lottery pick.
Took Deon Thompson from and overweight project to starter on a national championship team and a solid career overseas.
Coached Tyler Hansbrough to a NPOY award, lottery draft pick, and national champion.
Just a heads up on a tweet I sent out this morning. Coach K will drop in on Mitch McGary today. How many think he is a lost cause due to the Michigan hype? Just curious.
Thanks, Mark. Glad to see we aren't conceding the race.
On your question: I don't think its a lost cause, but when respected national scouts (Evan Daniels and Dave Telep) are signaling that MM is a strong lean to Michigan, then I definitely revise my expectations. I know the difference between good and bad sources and there are good sources that are pointing to Michigan, so I'm just not nearly as confident as I was a couple weeks ago.
That said, things can change quickly. Heck, it was only a few weeks ago when many said we led for him. Coach K can be a persuasive guy, so I'm still holding out hope. Let's remember, these are 17 year old kids making "feel" decisions, so its not exactly a science.
Regardless of the outcome with MM, Bazz, Parker and others, I have 1,000% faith in K and our staff to recruit at a high level and to win games. They've only been doing it for 30 years...
Here's one vote for "there's still a chance". It was not that long ago that MCG was admitting that his parents favored Duke and that they were obviously a factor in his decision.
And from the diary being linked to everywhere, not only does he say the he A) likes Duke's tempo and that he B) would may a good tandem with MP3, but he also says he will definitely be considering the fact the Michigan doesn't run an up tempo offense. Also, don't forget the in-home visit "homerun" comment...
Unless the number one factor in his decision is which school he will be the biggest star at, then Duke and unc most definitely still have a shot. You can never underestimate the influence of a parent.
Beyond the tempo issue, it's not like the Michigan coach has a track record of developing big men, unless you view Kevin Pittsnoggle as a major success. Don't get me wrong: Pittsnoggle was a fine and fun college player, and Belein is a very good coach, but I think you'd want to think carefully about playing for Michigan, given Belein's somewhat unconventional strategies.
Love the effort K is putting into big tony...for as much as i would love to have mm, i think tony would be a better fit at duke...

I have no idea where MM will wind up. I do recall a [biased??] Detroit News article earlier in the summer in which his prep school coach made the following assertion re Beilein's O-system: ""The post player is intimately and intricately involved in John Beilein's system," Brumm explained. "I don't know anybody who runs a better offensive system for a post player than Michigan."
My own impression is that, yes, Beilein's system is unconventional, and thereby tough to prepare for. If it's accurate that the O revolves around the post in Beilein's O-system, well, that would be a factor MM and his advisers would take into account.
Coaches get waaay, waaaay too much credit and/or blame for the successes and failures of how players develop. Coaches in general teach and guide their players in terms of development. I am of the opinion that there is very, very little that one major D1 coach may do better than another in this regard. I mean really, was Dale Brown a big man genius because he produced Shaquille O'Neal, was it he who failed Stanley Roberts? It is almost entirely up to the individual player how much he improves his game. You have to factor in work ethic, attitude, natural physical abilities and of course any injuries. It's not like Roy made Henson's arms freakishly long or magically made the 7ft Zeller impressively agile with a soft touch around the basket. Yes, coaches are of course some factor in how a player develops, obviously the player has to be coached. But how successful the player becomes is ultimately up to the player himself, not what the coach has or hasn't done. This ongoing argument that such-and-such program with so-and-so coach develops certain players better than another (not saying this is your argument Wheat) is really garbage and in my opinion nothing more than a sales pitch in recruiting.
"Just be you. You is Enough."
I'd agree with the first quoted sentence, but I disagree with the second. I'd argue that, like the Princeton offense and Herb Sendek's offenses, Beilein's system is very well suited for an unconventional Euro-style post player. But it's not ideal for the typical American-style post player. Those offenses emphasize passing ability from the high post and perimeter shooting. They de-emphasize passes to the low blocks.
I'd also say that, in terms of producing NBA post players, Beilein's offense is far from the best. Of course, that's more an issue of recruiting. Schools like Duke, UNC, etc get better-rated recruits than Beilein, and thus they get guys more likely to make the NBA to begin with.

Just read the MM personal blog post. If I am reading the subtlties there, and what seems to be important to MM, while he doesn't seem to have a decision made (or about to be made), I would guess that it comes down to Mich and Duke. In favor of Michigan is the personal relationships (don't underestimate the importance of that emotion in these decisions) and maybe proximity to home (IN), and arguably the post-focused system (I don't entirely buy in to that but the real question is whether Mitch does). For Duke there's the Coach K "winningest coach of all time" factor, the fact that Duke has shown him the most attention and he does seem to recognize that there will be more tsalent surrounding him if he goes to Duke. Part of me wonders how much MM has bought into the "Michigan is up-and-coming in the rankings" pitch. I don't necessarily disagree with the statement, but just want to point out that probably 50 schools would say that about themselves now, but most won't actually get there... (conversely I hope he realizes that with Duke he can be absolutely certain that he'll be competing for NC's as long as he's in Durham). The other "realization" that I hope Mitch comes to is the difference of having a track record with getting bigs developed and into the Association, versus a school that promises that "our system will concentrate on getting the ball into the bigs."
From all of the articles and gossip going around (especially posts by our more knowledgeable insiders) we seem to be on pretty solid ground - no promises - for two of the three we are still focused on. I would really love to see one of the others commit and see if that helps getting MM over the hump.
Oh, and I'm in the corner of not believing all of the spin from the Michigan spin machine re. their strength with MM being near-commitment. If K believed that I don't know that he'd be up visiting right now...
Articles from Detroit quote what MM said to the Detroit paper as evidence that he is specifically focused on Michigan. He's talking to his audience; if MM were talking to the Chronicle, he'd talk Duke. Telep, etc, believe MM as a lean toward Michigan. "A lean." NOT a "strong lean" or a "definite" or "a lock." A visit with K could erase such a viewpoint in an hour. Could we get TP and MM? I see no reason not to be optimistic...
