    Duke Women's Tennis - 2009 National Champs!

Not a lot of detail but the Duke women apparently defeated Miami today to advance to the semi-finals. I believe it was 4-1. Big win over a good team.

Great weekend for Duke spring sports.

Congrats to the team! They have been on a complete roll as of late - winning their last 16 matches. Their last loss was actually vs. Miami back on March 25 (they had since beaten Miami in the ACC championship match). They take on the winner of #2 UGa and South Carolina. GREAT season! Hopefully, they can keep it up. They were a top 10 pre-season team (#9), but I don't think many expected them to dominate so much as of late and have the #3 ranking in the country.

The team is led by freshman sensation Mallory Cecil at #1 singles. As the linked article indicates, she has been on a tear lately; she led the team today with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Miami player Julia Cohen who had been ranked #4 overall in NCAA rankings.

It's been an excellent year for Duke spring sports. It would be great to see at least one of the teams capture a national championship.

This link should work, to provide live scores and streaming match coverage.

Should be a tight match, but Duke is playing very well and definitely capable of winning the championship.

Is there a live video feed online somewhere for the championship match? I can't find it...GoDuke's live video link sends me to the following site, which has live stats, but no video:

    Hi,

Watching video of the Duke Women's team would be fun, watching scores flash by is not so fun.

    GO DUKE!!

Looks like a possible Duke rout - wonder why this team didn't get any more attention. The N&O had like 2 lines buried in the paper this morning.

Barring a massive collapse, it looks like Duke is going to win. They are up 1-0 and only need to win 3 of the 6 singles matches. Right now they're leading in 5 of those matches, including being a set up in most of them.

Unfortunately, Duke seems to snatch defeat from the clutches of victory...

The remaining games all seem to be hard fought and close.
Q "Why do you like Duke, you didn't even go there." A "Because my art school didn't have a basketball team."

Well maybe we're getting better at it.
