    Was the Hideaway involved?

Think of the dumbest thing you ever did at Duke.

Was the Hideaway involved in any way?

    Hmmmm, yes.

No. The Hideaway didn't exist when I was an undergrad.

chapel hill, however, had been invented. It was evil, even back then!

    Oh my. Where to begin?

I did so many dumb things at Duke. I'm thinking, trying to remember. . .

The Hideway didn't exist in my day either...the dumbest thing involved:

    1-adult beverages
    2- a stranger party
    3-adult beverages
    4- a creepy date
    5-adult beverages
6-a bathroom window (that was higher than I thought)
    7-x rays

Oh. My. Gosh. Stranger parties. Might as well call them "Set-Your-Friend-Up-With-The-STRANGEST-Guy-On-Campus-Party." Stranger parties were creepy, and they usually ended early for me.

Oooh. These are a very bad combination!

Reminds me of the time I drove someone back to his dorm because he couldn't. He lived on the third floor of House O, facing the quad. As best as we can figure, he tried to push open his window (which as most of you know would swing open from the center) and he followed the open side out. He was found on the ground some time later. Fortunately, he was drunk enough that he bounced off the metal steam grate under his window (today it is a concrete pad). He suffered facial lacerations and a broken wrist, but nothing more serious (other than loosing some inferior brain cells ). We called his method of exit the "Millervator", in honor of his last name, which was (is) Miller.

I either imbibed a bit too much or was even geekier than I thought. Can someone remind me where the Hideaway was located? And was the place below Page called the Down Under? I do recall beer on other people's points at the CI and some interesting daiquiri parties in the women's restroom on the 2nd floor of Trent.

The Down Under (aka The D.U.) was in the basement of Gilbert-Addoms (aka G.A.).

The Hideaway was in the basement of Page Auditorium until about 1982 when it moved over to the basement of the Union building in the back corner under the Pits beside the Bryan Center Walkway. The Hideaway did not participate in the beer on points thing. It was a cash only bar.

You could get beer on points in the C.I. and in the D.U. from the fall of 1980 until the fall of 1981. Thereafter, the only alcohol on points was from the Oak Room, but you had to order food to go with the drinks if you got alcoholic beverages in the Oak Room.

Apparently, I never knew the names of the places where I imbibed. I knew I shouldn't have been playing quarters that night!

Night golf with carts. We came very close to being caught once and it was the last time. Might have been expelled. The university built a large building to house the carts due to our exploits. Still have the keys though-E. P. Hagler, Golf Professional.
