You need a third option... both in and out of the shower.
Start toweling off in the shower to avoid drenching the floor. Finish out of the shower for the, er, um, freedom of movement.
where do you dry off?

I dry off in the shower, because the steam keeps me warm. I hate the feeling of stepping out of a shower all wet and immediately you feel cold.
We have a stand-up shower (like a large phone booth) and I'm a fairly large guy. Just not enough room inside to get completely dry.
Besides, that's what bath mats are for, right?
I dry off in the shower because I cannot stand wet shower floors or wet bath mats. I suppose I also do a little more drying off once I get out, but I'm pretty much dry when I'm out.

Good heavens...HOW many more days until basketball season begins???????????
reason for this poll:
I am out in CA for the first time visiting my old college roomate who just moved here. I had to ask him how he always managed to get the bathroom floor so sopping wet after he finished his showers. He first told me that he got out of the shower to pee which is def. going to be an up and coming poll. However, as we were bored out of our minds on our way from San Diego to LA... I started wondering if maybe he doesn't dry off at all before he gets out of the shower. He proceeded to tell me that he was pretty sure most everyone dries off out of the shower. He was even willing to bet me some money. He's a lot smarter then me (which isn't too hard to be I mean you all read my posts), but I knew I was right on this one. I made this poll in the car as we drove on my crappy treo - and what do you know -
I WIN.
My first chore after a shower is to squeegee the water of the walls, doors and floor. Then I dry me. Can't open the door until I am dry because of the sudden chill.
I too have squeegee before all else. Well, in the winter I dry then squeegee.
My second impulse which I'm constantly trying to repress, is to step out of the shower to dry off. The South, particularly in summer with its oppressive humidity, compels me to step outside and begin the drying/cooling process as soon as possible so I don't start sweating again. Otherwise what would be the point of bathing at all?--which is my first impulse.
Jarhead and Ymo, I love you guys! How wonderful is that? A guy who squeegees out the shower!
Can I get some love, too? I dry off mainly in the shower and finish toweling off on a bath mat. Then, I wipe down the shower walls and floor to reduce mildew. Notice I said, "reduce" and not prevent. We live in the south so mildew is a permanent resident in the grout in/on tile floors/walls.
CathyCA, I blame my mom for this behavior...
I normally dry off in the shower, but I just moved in somewhere with a very small shower, so now I'm forced to step out to do most of my drying off.
I dry off in the shower in order to keep from getting water everywhere, but I have to dry my feet off outside. So, both, but mostly inside. FBB, glad to help in this important scientific poll.
