When the weather’s hot and sticky it’s too hot for……
i'm eating a lot of beans these days and can breathlessly report that my body has adjusted to them over time...much less honking now. Any more info requested?
Surprised the LTE doesn’t discuss tooting more, TBH. Fertile ground.
This is a good query. When I lived in Seattle, people would sometimes say "wow, it's too hot" at, say, 78 degrees. My answer was always "too hot for what?"
Saying "it's too hot" implies that it is prohibitively hot for something. 85 degrees? Too hot for a long run. 95 degrees? Too hot to mow the lawn. 100 degrees? Too hot to weed the garden at noon.
78? What is it too hot for other than ice skating?
In this case it is a wee limerick type phrase with which a female carpool member of mine used to torment another very prudish carpool member. The second phrase begins “but when the frost is on the pumpkin. “. Hint: what it is too hot for is definitely not ice skating.
