I think we all did to some degree. I didn't do it for the points. I did it for the safety of our players and for the refs to control the last 5-10 minutes of the game.

... cold and a little snowy, before the major winter storm that's supposed to come Monday night/Tuesday morning.
Uh oh!
I guess my question is when will we get to 10,000?
Amazing. Looks like Lavabe and Devildeac are about to pass me. All it took was me being mostly absent for the past 6 months. :)
Say what?
Peanut Butter Sticks
Is the say what for the recall or for the fact that they actually make and sell peanut butter sticks?
Best and Worst Jobs
12. How do you get a job as a philosopher?
192. What is a roustabout?
It's 12:02pm. Lunch in a little bit (too crowded now). Working really hard to procrastinate until then. And I have a lot to do but just don't want to get started. :(
I posted a new thread on the main board and it disappeared within seconds. It was simply "We're #1!".
What's up with that?
Check here. It's been combined w/ another thread on the same topic.
I'm trying to make it look like I'm working... my lunch was homemade beef stew, yummm!!
I just got a package from the folks in Oceanside who did my play last summer. They've sent me a t-shirt and a DVD. All very nice, but still, I'm just a little bit worried to watch it. My interpretation of the report from Sue and Miles is, well, I'm just little bit worried to watch it.
3+ hours without a post. We need more PW'ing!
OK, I watched the DVD. I'd rate the production as adequate and the acting as well. Had I been the director, I would have focused on the pacing. Pacing is extremely important to this particular play. It works much better when the pacing is right. This play is supposed to move, it's 'snappy repartee'. Then, at the end when it's supposed to slow it down just a bit, that's when the actors sped up. Oh well, it wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. Not sure if I like the couch covered in white fabric. In the stage directions I make a point that it is NOT heaven and George and Dorothy are not angels.
Aside to Ymo, the pacing of Heartbreak Hill wasn't quite right either. I've discovered something about myself as a playwright, my stuff is supposed to move. I don't really write long dramatic pauses. Pinter, I ain't. Who is? But I'm not even Pinteresque.
By the way, if you are so inclined, my fund raising website

One of my work colleagues has come up with the idea that I should start the Just 21 Club. All I need is a thousand people to donate 'Just 21' and I'll reach my goal. (I'm aiming high, don't let it scare you, my secondary goal is to be one of the first 5 team members to hit $5000.)
I had another of those "I'm so lucky" moments at work today. I was sitting at a meeting with one of our collaborators, talking about a research project related to pediatric gliomas (brain tumors), when it hit me yet again that I made a very lucky escape from my last job. I went from doing menial work like washing glassware for a power hungry Supervisor Barbie to collaborating on really interesting research projects. After the meeting I made a point to thank my friend (for the bazillionth time!) for thinking of me for this job. I am blessed and lucky! :)
It's got to be difficult to watch someone else's interpretation of your work. Did they miss the point altogether regarding pacing? Or were they gearing to the audience? I'm not sure everyone out there is a fan of fast-paced dialog. Or maybe I think that because I'm a native Southerner. Thoughts?
Time to stop for a while to enjoy being Jay Bilas.
I'm a native Southerner too.
The main problem is the age of the characters. It's the rare 60+ actor who can really go at it. The main problem was remembering the lines. They didn't forget them but they didn't have them cold either. It takes more rehearsal time than a 10 minute play is usually going to get to bring older actors up to my preferred pace.
Hmmm, 2 hrs between posts tonight. Where is everyone?
I know where *some* people were earlier. Ahem.
Ok I feel the need to PW.
I amuse myself sometimes.
I forgot to do laundry tonight. Oops. :D
Thanks goodness I have clean clothes still. Just wanted to get a jump start. Oh well so much for that.
I could empty the dishwasher, though. But maybe not. Maybe I'll go get some zzzzz's soon.
I'm pretty stoked about Part Deux. :D:D:D
Ok so all the PWing wasn't here in the LTE, but still. I've achieved 2535 status with this one. ;):D;)
Ok, night night time now. :)
Uh oh... Miles and I are up at night.
Me... I'm up after a 9 hour sleep (resulting from an allnighter I pulled to finish a grant). What's going on with Miles?
Over here in Kentucky, it's HEAVY snow outside. I bet Georgia is going to frolic when I take her out in the morning.
Cheers,
Lavabe
Gee... I must have caught Miles just as he was logging off. Oh well. So much for a late night of PW tag team action... at least until Ymo logs on.:D
Sorry, I've been up for over an hour but didn't look at my computer until now...
Calling (or rather writing) out to Fish80!!! Did you buy your father-in-law the shamwow, or were you kidding?
Just think of all the money you'll save from not buying paper towels!
Do you remember those little animal things that you put in the tub, they soak up a lot of water, and grow to 50 times their dry size? I wonder how big a sham wow would get if you fully saturated it?
How do you get a thumbs down above your post?
Not sure if this has been mentioned yet here, but this thread is only 1000 views shy of being the most viewed thread on any DBR board. And to think, it only took a year and change. ;)
Pretty sad. Passed #1000 posts on this thread and did nothing special except string a bunch of posts together before leaving the office:o. Well, maybe that is special:o.
Yay for those moments. You are lucky to have a job that you love and appreciate. Congrats for making it happen.
On most days, I feel the same way about my gig. Working with smart people on interesting projects is just one of the best job perks in the world.
Thanks, DBR Vibes, for helping AD & me! :D
W00t! Yay closing on your house! Are you moving in immediately? More house pics, more house pics!
If I were closer, you could totally count on me to help you move - I can pack and carry boxes with the best of them. Oddly, I enjoy helping other people move, but hate doing it for myself.
You are probably one of the few people I would let help me pack. As an Air Force brat who has moved around her whole life, I am a master packer. I have packed myself up the last 5 or 6 moves and have not broken a thing. Give me boxes, wrapping paper or bubble wrap, and some tape and I'll get it all done.
Speaking of packing must go do some now.
Will post more pics in my album when a) I download what I have on my camera, and b) as things start coming together.
Oh, will probably move in 2/28. I need some electrical work done and would like to get some painting done before moving in so fur babies don't mess things up.
Yay, a house I can paint. :D:D:D
Snow tomorrow. Yuck!
Y'all need to check this out from the Ticket Board. Ahem.
I've never had one. I'd never even heard of them before your post but I have to admit I'm intrigued by the idea. I LOVE peanut butter. I know some people will eat a spoonful of peanut butter to stave off hunger but I have been known to have a couple spoonfuls along with a glass of milk as a snack/light lunch. I guess I will have to wait for some salmonella free peanut butter sticks to give them a try.
We are almost 1/4 the way to Bali.;)
Ahh, so that's how you guys have gotten close. Shameless, shameless PWing.
I'm on FB at the moment & am currently being hit on by a 25 year old who was a student when I worked at one of my previous jobs at a university. This is weird.
I was in my early-ish 30s then... makes him... 12 years younger than me.
Is he cute?
Uh-oh, DiK is about to pass me in posts on this thread.
Perhaps not a bad thing.
But not tonight.
New ways to be a bad mom. Let oldest son stay up and watch R rated movies with me while the hubby is out of town.
Last night was 'Tropic Thunder'.
Tonight we did 'Hamlet 2'.
Steve Coogan is in both of them.
"Rock me sexy Jesus"
Steve Coogan is my cousin.
Get it? Anybody? Does Jason read this thread?
Should we have a DBR on Facebook Scramble tournament?
Oh the obscure pop culture references.
I wrote a play about an artist one time. It has the line "You aim for Picasso and you wind up Leroy Neiman!"
When I workshopped it, only about 2 people got that joke. I was told several times that I should take it out because hardly anybody was going to get it. I stubbornly left it in, because, well, I put it in for those 2 people in the first place.
Sure Sue although I'm shutting it down. But first I have to go check my post total.
OK, I'm now 21 posts in 4th place. That's enough for tonight.
Hmmm...12 years is a bit of a difference but if you didn't know them from before it is a bit easier not to see them as a kid. There is a certain line that gets crossed somewhere in the mid-20's as far as maturity goes IMHO. Some people cross it early, others don't cross it ever.
I love stuff like that! Count me in the group of people would wouldn't get the joke but would be curious enough to go find out. I mentioned earlier that I was a huge fan of Gilmore Girls, and it was because of all the rapid-fire dialog and obscure pop culture references.
