Television worth watching for sure.
I don’t know that the documentarian needed to drop that he went for tacos for lunch though.

I had to roll up to Austin.
Recently (amicably) divorced after 25 years (including 2 years separated), dating and the apps can be brutal (and expensive in NYC!). Finally went on a date with someone I really could see a future with, then got the "let's be friends" text the next day. The loneliness can be overwhelming. I'm OK, no need to send professional help. I have plenty of support. Just venting. Anyone else been through this?
(Really having second thoughts about posting this, but I pressed "submit" anyway)
I would think one positive would be the level of specificity in dating apps. Like, if you’re a matcha-tea swilling, llama enthusiast woodworker, who likes to be dressed as an Austrian baby before Netflix and chill, there’s an app for you and your people.
105 minutes of epic aerobic lawnmowing.
Unbelievable. Yet another example of people not taking responsibility for their own actions. Just blame/sue someone else!

I'm going to push back on this a bit. Modern algorithms do not care about the user, at all. They care about eyeballs on target, and they are ruthlessly engineered to ensure that people get sucked into them as much as possible. In short, they are explicitly engineered to BE addictive. Yes, there's always some responsibility element when someone gets addicted to something, and there is no physical, chemical element to social media addiction. But the responses are still very powerful in certain people who are prone to developing addictions, and I'm in favor of lawsuits or other legal means to try to restrict the use of the addiction-fostering algorithms in modern software, which are at their peak in the social media apps (but are also very much present in the modern video game market).
I understand the responsibility-avoidance take, but sometimes there are multiple parties who should be behaving responsibly, but aren't.
Made it 3 weeks with healthy kiddos. Hand Foot and Mouth this time. The parade of daycare crud continues.
I was thinking more along the lines of the parents claiming they did not know their 11 yo was on Instagram, etc. THAT was their first responsibility, knowing what your young children are doing. But I do agree with budwom, whether he was being facetious or not, you can't sue Cheetos for being fat.
On the Cheetos issue, why not? Apparently an insurance company is liable for STDs contacted during car sex.

The Corinthian leather is a double-edged sword.
Trying to get ready for the mission trip. Really gad we weren't leaving today.
If anyone wants to follow along, we will be blogging about our week here:

Almost had a fight at the rental place. I rented 2 minivans and someone else was there to pick up a minivan.. They only had one. I thought they had 2 minivans and was willing to take one minivan and the Durango. When I realized that it would be either a 4Runner and the minivan or Durango, I had to say no. She wasn't happy to find out that she wasn't getting a minivan and the Durango was her only option. Apparently, you need to confirm your confirmation and she didn't do that step. Interesting start to the trip.
Shania Twain songs haunt my dreams.
In the NBA Finals thread, everyone is Kung-fu fighting.
I mean, Go Celtics! But I'm not taking it too seriously - what's to fight about?
Today was Opening Day!
I will post a photo taken by Arrow at dress rehearsal. See if you notice anything interesting about my costume.

Where are we in the play? Jacques (in black) is about to say "All the world's a stage . . . "
Currently on day 8 of my planned “6 day” pool renovation plan. About half way there.
It was noted on the news the other night that rental car companies (taking a cue from the airlines) are taking a lot more reservations than they have cars. More fun for travelers. I'm still amazed at how the airlines get away with considerable overbooking. Living in a secondary airline market, we often have flights that leave as early as 5:30 a.m. (the airport has a huge number between then and 7 a.m.) which necessitates getting up by 3 a.m. and still the planes are overbooked and "volunteers" are asked to give up seats...after getting up at 3 a.m. that doesn't seem like a logical idea at all.
Just a delightful rainy spring morning.
There is a girl from my HS so into essential oils and Oola and family lifestyle brand MLM bull crap it’s a cliche. She was #2 in our class, too.
I don’t know why that matters, I just, it’s not like MLMs are some big secret.
Closed Palm To the forhead = repressed angst Or emotion expressed internally.
Open palm = grief expressed outwardly.
You’ve made this joke a few times now and I’m still not sure I get it. Are you implying you’re the stairclimber and are hard, boring work with no reward of a view? Or, are you implying that relations is like being on a stairclimber for you because of your poor aerobic fitness? Or, is your wife the stairclimber—- you like the idea of being on it more than actually being on it?
One benefit of my DIY pool work - I’ve lost 6 pounds so far.
Not an experiment I want to try.

The NBA thread went off the rails. I like to think I helped. While I agree that it is impossible to parse out what is and isn't reverse jinxing if the post is the same either way, the person who seemed most aggrieved by this (who doesn't post here so assume won't see this) is about as fun as a car wreck.
There is one dude who is downright angry. He is also dismissive of anyone who disagrees with his basketball takes. I actually know where he grew up and none of this is surprising. His hometown is basically the absolute opposite of Lake Wobegon. No one is above average.
Hahaha. I was hoping you didn't consider me to be no fun.
That was a pretty funny admonishment on the playoff thread.
Yeah, I tossed in a few useless but absolutely needed and well-timed posts. I also find threads devolving to be one of the joyful aspects of online forums and fit the bill for DBR wanting to be like your neighborhood pub. I’ve gotten in plenty of disagreements over beers that went so far astray both is forgot what started the conversation.
I think the two of you are what led to the “social media is killing us” thread.
The Meta Quest commercials do not make Meta Quest look fun at all.
Sexual expectations and practices of many young men these days has been negatively influenced by the accessibility and pervasiveness of free internet porn. The first person world of AR glasses is going to take it to another level. I think this is a societal problem that doesn't get much attention, but it's definitely an issue.

Doughnut subterfuge...interesting to note that if McDonalds wanted the same per capita presence in the U.S. as Tim Hortons has in Beaver Land, they'd need thrice their current 13,000 outlets, eh?
Enjoy your donut, and by the way, did you enjoy your night at Bob's house last night?
Brittney Griner is still in a jail in Russia. She’s a top 20 player today. Wonder if they his would be getting more media attention if, like, Jimmy Butler was being detained.
Since you are keen on meats (like myself) at some point you need to get yourself to Au Pied de Cochon...some amazing stuff there...seafood, too.
It is a great city...the Russian consulate on Avenue du Musee still wants at me...we used to harass those guys with flair and enthusiasm...
Man, how often do you go to Wal-Mart and completely strike out on your list?
Croup is back in the house. Ugh.
In today's edition of "It's a Small World"
Part of our mission team is building a ramp for a young man so he can get into his mother-in-law's house. He and his wife came to share with us this evening - he shared his history, his singing, and his work with an equestrian program. They asked where we were from and when they heard the city, he somewhat jokingly asked if we knew two people. OP has a population of about 200,000 and is part of a good sized metropolitan area. These two people were married in our church and she sang in choir with several of us. The woman who visited with us gave up her daughter for adoption and our friends adopted her. Hopefully, we will get to see this couple again when they come to visit our friends in the fall.
Amazing.
I used to NEVER go to Walmart b/c it was so trashy. There is a newer one nearer to me in Morrisville that is much nicer. I have found that things I used to get cheap at Target are no more so I go to Walmart for things like mouthwash, OTC meds, anything hygiene just about. The Equate version "equates" (sorry) and costs a lot less than any other store brand. It's also a good place to grab yogurt and snacks for less.
I’m disappointed nobody is impressed I have a pet boar.
Sigh...
Never use a cymbal to play tennis, it makes a terrible racket.
As it should be. If I had that job I would have "I'm sorry for even typing this sentence, but..." to preface every single revision request. And then I would privately approach every producer/director and personally apologize that I chose this job. But I was forced into it because of choices I made in my education. Further, I am filled with regret for having made those choices, but I'm in this unhappy rut of a career and feel powerless to escape.
What sort of monster starts grocery shopping in dairy?
For the record, I do not own a marmot.
I don't know what we're doing here but...
For me, it's like one of those horses pulling an Amish buggy for the first time on a busy road, because I'm all lathered from the work and terrified by all the strange noises and someone in a straight cut suit is whipping me.
I’m a mudder.
Why do men hold other men down and pee on them as a form of initiation? Happened to my step-brother in 80s TX HS football. Sounds like it almost happened to JJ.
I don’t get it. A holdover from dominance displays and territory marking?
I have the code to my wife’s phone and just saw that my mom texted her asking for suggestions for my upcoming birthday. I texted back for my wife, “very cheap prostitutes”.
So waiting to see how it goes.
Eighty bucks on concessions at Fenway yesterday
Fridays are really weird around these parts.
Well, that was...
I forget that when I say crazy, bombastic things on the basketball side that there is a subset of the population who nods in approval even though I'm being ridiculous.
All in all it was about what I expected, and we enjoyed it a lot. Didn't have time to grab a lunch outside the park where options are lousy anyway, so...pre game we grabbed two foot long hot dogs (very good) for $10 apiece, and two bags of Hamptom Farms North Carolina peanuts in the shell for six bucks apiece...and two 16 ounce craft beers for $12 apiece...and two refresher beers in the sixth inning for another $12 apiece...quite tasty and ice cold.
Very impressed by the hustle of the vendors...these guys worked their butts off, literally ran around with the heavy cases held over their heads to avoid fans bumping into them...by the three hour mark these guys were exhausted, but I imagine they made some bucks...
That sounds exactly like what I would have chased down. I think you should be required to get beer and peanuts at a baseball game. I love the footlong hot dog, although I would have eaten it without the bun of course. I respect your choices as someone who eats an inordinate amount of food and likes Stadium fare.
Since we don't grow any peanuts in the Northeast, Hampton Farms (NC) peanuts are pretty much what you find up here for peanuts in the shell, they even have the Jumbo peanut option.
Worst concession seen: crappy plastic batting helmets holding a modest amount of popcorn for some ludicrous price...
The entire scene was great: no police presence required or noted except outside the stadium, just a lot of people of ALL ages enjoying some sun and baseball...
This is for certain people around here. You know who you are! :D
