I made this exact point on that thread, actually. I get that we are a basketball message board, but pretending like a team cancelling a game due to a campus outbreak of a virus is somehow more than a minor "bummer" for Duke fans is kinda gross.

WE LOST 2 GAMES THIS WEEK!?!? Why am I just now hearing this? I mean the first game was tough to watch and I got the margin of victory wrong by one point yesterday, but I didn't think it was that bad.
My worst spill was on the trail behind the Bryan Center on the way to Gross Chem. It was after an ice storm. Class had been cancelled for a day or two to allow for melting but this patch was in the shade and I went legs up like something out of a cartoon. Fortunately no one was around.
Sleep is the absolute best. Wow I feel refreshed. Now you should all fear for my family's sanity today. I am always bouncing off the walls, but today will be particularly bad.
Lengthy chat with our longtime UPS driver last night. He was chuckling about people complaining about lost or undelivered packages (a real problem here, everywhere) but noted they have a crackerjack system that ensures they know exactly where every package has been delivered. Then off he went, and I noted he left us someone else's package, D'oh! He did show up five minutes later with the correct package. It's a jungle out there.
It's been a long December...
I'm having a good music reference day. And pushups are how I rage against the dying of the light. Yelling at my coworkers is how I rage against the machine.
No one woke me up when September ended.
Green Day's early stuff was revolutionary for a young ClemmonsDevil. I was already into grunge from my exposure to that genre in college, but Green Day and The Offspring were fantastic. And opened my eyes to even better bands like Rage Against the Machine. Prior to this I basically was all country music, all the time.
A Hard Rain’s A Gonna Fall…
I have had both a secret doughnut and day old sushi today. Hmmm.
We need more ‘Bort’ license plates in the gift shop.
Watching the women's volleyball national championship game. This is great television. I'm fired up.
Don't you hate when you open up your cupboard only to realize you're the only snack in the house?
Some of you may understand this. Some may not. I just had a mental breakdown watching Emmet Otter.
I had an absolutely epic, crazy scary dream about velociraptors last night.
Anyone else watch Dopesick on Hulu? I'm halfway through.
I work in the pharma industry so I have a particular interest. Some really crazy stuff.
We’re at the midway point. I assume the broad strokes are true and, yes, it’s a pretty damming portrayal of a company “creating a market”. There was a thread on here a while ago about McKinsey’s role in the strategy creation and it was pretty galling, too.
I work an industry with a mixed track record for corporate malfeasance. It’s tough sometimes- you know the products created are capable of great good and improving life but also capable of great harming the appropriate due diligence isn’t undertaken or some level of ethical decision making applied.
Hopped on the Pitt bandwagon when the brackets came out. Went out to Pittsburgh for the early rounds. They disposed of Penn State (inexplicably held at the sterile Pete instead of Fitzgerald Field House). Then took down Purdue at a rocking, sold-out Fitz. Mrs. Turk still plays pickup and in leagues, and my eldest Swee'Pea played on their club team, until the drama and time commitment became too much. I suggested going out to Columbus for the Final Four, but Mrs. Turk is too pragmatic for whimsical sport-related road trips.
4 hours, no posts...
Low 20s tonight.
I love my dentist.
Happy 14th birthday, LTE.
Happy 14th, y'all!
Pretty impressive those of you that have been posting the full 14! Kudos!
I was reading this article about a SUPER local mountain that I used to ski and love. It got frankenstein-ed by the jet set and all I could think of is that this sounds like a whole lot of Kendall Roy...

Breaks my heart though.
Happy 14th! I did not eat a PopTart to celebrate. Perhaps I should.
I haven't had a PopTart in months...
Which reminds me of this Paula Poundstone Pop-Tart thingy.
I love Paula Poundstone. Her exchange with Michael Pollan on Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me is one of the funniest things ever. Head to this page, click the audio, and fast forward to about 2:45.
Tiny Pinder was a basketball player in the 70s for Norm Sloan. Duke fan sign: "Mrs Sloan loves Norm's Tiny Pinder".
I'm hell on thread discipline.
Went to the local chip factory corporate campus for their annual Christmas light display. Employees also stood outside the factory area handing out bags of chips. They were ridged.
Justin Bieber has a Christmas song called "Mistletoe". These are they lyrics. You're welcome.
[Verse 1]
It's the most beautiful time of the year
Lights fill the streets, spreading so much cheer
I should be playing in the winter snow
But I'ma be under the mistletoe
I don't wanna miss out on the holiday
But I can't stop staring at your face
I should be playing in the winter snow
But I'ma be under the mistletoe
[Chorus]
(With you) Shawty, with you
(With you) Shawty, with you
(With you) Under the mistletoe
[Verse 2]
Everyone's gathering around the fire
Chestnuts roasting like a hot July
I should be chilling with my folks, I know
But I'ma be under the mistletoe
Word on the street, Santa's coming tonight
Reindeer's flying through the sky so high
I should be making a list, I know
But I'ma be under the mistletoe
[Chorus]
(With you) Shawty, with you
(With you) Shawty, with you
(With you) Under the mistletoe
(With you) Shawty, with you
(With you) Shawty, with you
(With you) Under the mistletoe
[Bridge]
Ayy love, the wise men followed the star
The way I followed my heart
And it led me to a miracle
Ayy love, don't you buy me nothing
'Cause I am feeling one thing, your lips on my lips
That's a merry, merry Christmas
[Chorus]
(With you) Shawty, with you
(With you) Shawty, with you
(With you) Under the mistletoe, yeah
(With you) Shawty, with you
(With you) Shawty, with you
(With you) Under the mistletoe (Under the mistletoe)
[Outro]
Kiss me underneath the mistletoe
Show me, baby, that you love me so-oh-oh, oh, oh, oh
Kiss me underneath the mistletoe
Show me, baby, that you love me so-oh-oh, oh, oh, oh
Little girl got her slate of 4 month vaccinations today. Having a little fever and irritability reaction. Methinks its going to be a tough night.
Isn't his wife taller than he is?
Yup. Only sleeping while she’s held so I’m on first watch with Netflix.
Did that years ago with kid #1, watching lots of closed captioned stuff while listening to the latin jazz that put her to sleep.
My sleep-deprived younger self was especially amused one night as ESPN was showing the implosion of Three Rivers Stadium. They tried several times to caption the river, "Monog... Monang... Monga...", never quite getting to "Monongahela".

If anyone ever hands me a shopping cart as I enter a grocery store and says, “I left some gas in the tank for you”, then gives me the snap, point and wink combo, well, I don’t know what I’d do…but it would be drastic.
I think he is saying he appreciates the humor so much...sort of like the little old ladies he helps out when getting things off the top shelf at the grocery store. I'm noting a lot of emotional stress that the grocery store seems to put him in. I wonder what happened in his childhood?
Hah, the little old ladies don't bother me too much, they just need to know my extra inches will cost them a roll in the hay with the big dog. My wife and I have a very specific, tightly defined open relationship focused on little old ladies in distress in the condiment aisle.
What that says about my youth and grocery stories, I don't know. However, I did grow up in Texas and know that HEB stands for Howard Edward Butt and I think that's just hilarious.
It's 12/21/21 in the 21st century. Should I sacrifice something?
I watched two people get engaged on the ice rink at Rockefeller Center about 25 minutes ago and I took an utterly spectacular photograph of the moment in question. Once I get home and upload my pics, we’re going to do one of those degrees-of-separation internet searches and I’m going to find those people to give them my photo.
It’s going to be heartwarming.
we were watching the evening news last night while eating dinner, only to find that the cole slaw mix we were enjoying at that very moment had been recalled because of listeria fears. D'oh!
Ha, right back atcha! Have a great holiday season... (just noted I may have to wait 60 days for listeria symptoms, just confirmed the code number on the bag, ack).
UPDATE on the neighbors! They always amaze. Divorced owners sold the business, have no idea what he'll do with his time, it does scare me a bit. The daughter (think of these folks as the Clampetts) is now dating a male stripper.
Which one is he? Hmmm . . .

My wife and I have each been sick three times since our toddler started daycare two months ago. Neither of us had been sick since before COVID and I think our immune systems have been eating too many pop tarts and binging netflix. Blech.
Does The Shadow know?
Does anyone else think it would be funny to start an "I'm gonna jinx it thread"? Clemson is winning at UVA! Hope they pull it out!
All right. It's good to have what I think are a decent number of iconoclastic folks on this thread. So I'm going to start a thread next time I can think of it if there is an upset Brewing. Let's brainstorm names.
1.Ima jinx the crap out of this game
2. I'm not superstitious, but I'm a little stitious
3. The close game thread for people who like basketball but hate weird, cryptic remarks
4. There's a close game on and me watching it will have absolutely no impact
5. Jinxy McJinx Face
6. Secretly pulling for the overdogs
7. Basketball nihilist thread
My Venereal disease joke in the pandemic thread was expunged. I assume DukeKaren123 complained.
Working today. Only two of us in my group of 14. They left me "in charge".
Just gave our 46 year old Christmas cactus a wee shower.
Play yah yah ding dong again!
If you call him an Einstein, and he yells back that he’s a Tesla, you know it’s the current.
I am the proud owner of a functioning furnace. Just in time for unseasonably warm temps. But I'm ready for overnight lows in the 20s to return.
Totally not working about 2 week. Fortunately, we haven't had very many 30s or lower nights and especially not in a row.
Real life C&H snow creations warm my cockles.

I created an anti-jinx thread.
Yesterday (as of 12 minutes ago) was my brother’s birthday, and I nailed his present this year. I always really try too, because he can be hard to please, and he was 10/10 delighted this year. That makes me feel very happy.

That's the funniest thing. Karen devil strikes again! This makes it look like it all boils down to this: if a moderator participates then it's perfectly reasonable to start that thread. But since that's not what occurred then they will arbitrarily and capriciously do with it as they wish. So theoretically the Jinx thread should also be under the other people's basketball thread. Because it's about other people's basketball. I don't mind that Jinx threat at all. I hate the puns because I just want to know if and where upsets are brewing and what channel. And I'm not looking to have to decipher stuff. That was why I made that thread. Also I thought it would be funny to tweak people, but tweaking is only appreciated by a certain few.
Spent a good part of morning:

Amd she did spend a good part of the walk pulling me sideways.
