Whew, back over 3000. Now I can go to bed.
Mock away.
Oh wait - it's after midnight. I can make it official.
I am on the MGH Marathon Team for 2017. Yep, Bostondevil is running the Boston Marathon, again, for the 5th time.
Someday the election will be over.
The LTE will never die.
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...venweb/LTE.jpg
Seems kinda small, but there it is...
Free software tools don't always provide the desired results.
I agree.
Ale appreciators are always welcome in the LTE.
They've resorted to padding posts over there? How very LTE like.
Remember when Jason took all of our jokey posts about the election and switched them to the Presidential thread? Turn about seems fair play to me.
(Hint, hint.) ;)
We will still out last them.
Panic posts, my wanker.
Someone could take one for the team...
Post something partisan and inflammatory that will induce lots of replies that will get deleted... of course it will earn you an unpaid vacation
Far too much shade being thrown in that other thread. When in reality, they're still talking about many of the same issues they were a year ago...
BTW, I never panic post. What I would deem pathetic is how they somehow maintain a guise of civility over the course of that other thread when it has been closed at times and had posts deleted. Sure, there has been some self-censoring/redacting, but really... :)
I really don't get the view that these two threads are in competition. With due respect to all.
But I am a heavy poster on the other thread so maybe I'm the wrong one to see it.
Enjoy both. Be happy.
Be the Uncarved Block.
I fail to see how anything related to yard chores, menu cards and complaints about yard chores could be described as "panick-posting"
I, for one, consider it my sacred duty to make sure everybody else knows that I intend to shirk as much manual labor as possible.
And, I am going to make a nice fall pork roast tonight.
Now, back to all your equally riveting ruminations.
Sure glad we're not a bunch of knitters (nit pickers, maybe :p ) here or we'd have a thread with eleventy billion posts. :o
I might hurt some feelings with this, so, for the record - you are all my heroes. Or other heroes. Or super heroes.
Take your pick.
In other news - I got the official word today that I'm on the MGH Team for the 2017 Boston Marathon. I'm calling it "One for the Thumb"!
We are a Nielsen ratings family this week. Gonna be a pretty boring report I am afraid. But watching some underdog shows just, you know, to help.
World Series or World Series of Poker? Which should I be watching?
YBT, do you play cards?
Intermittently. When I lived in the Boston area, local game and a trip to Foxwoods monthly. This was when the Moneymaker effect was still strong and the economy was doing well. Moved to Cincy and play dropped to zero. Finally discovered the Indiana casinos and was back to monthly again. Moved to Cincy and found a monthly game for a couple years, but haven't played in a year and a half. Sprinkle in trips to Vegas throughout this whole time.
By the way, they are still playing as I type.
It is over as of 3:15 local time in Vegas.
Hmmm, I moved to Cincy twice in that post. Second Cincy should be San Antonio, TX.
What do you say, Of(T)en or Of(F)en. This always perplexes me as I was taught to never say the T.
See?! We're very deep and fascinating over here!
Going to be fun dealing with insufferable Cubs "fans" now.
Yep, I would have preferred an Indians win.
Well - as a Red Sox fan - I'm happy to pass the insufferable torch.
Also - forgive me if I'm repeating myself. I thought I'd posted this already, but I can't find it. Doesn't mean it's not there but . . .
Anyway, Bostondevil has signed on for her 5th Boston Marathon with the MGH Pediatric Cancer Care Team. I'm calling it "One for the Thumb"!
Congratulations to Ben Zobrist - MVP of this World Series and winner of back to back World Series!
I have received my 10th spork.
One more and I reach enlightenment.
I enjoy a good holiday.
The Fourth of July features less restrictive, less itchy clothing.
Masters' Week is a holiday here. Whole week, first full week in April. Good weather, no pressure, stay or go.
Thanksgiving works for me and here in South Central Texas you still have a decent chance of shorts weather that time of year.
Pick a favorite holiday? You might as well ask me to pick a favorite kid.
Instead, I'll tell you my least favorite. New Year's Eve - all that pressure to go out, have fun, and pretend that midnight is a big deal.
I'm not a fan of Columbus Day.
I have a running game where 4-5 of us try and guess the non-farm payrolls number every month. Only once in the last years has someone gotten within 1% of the monthly number.
Actually was just having the holiday conversation with a group of friends.
For me it's:
Fourth of July
Thanksgiving
Christmas
Halloween
NYE
Easter
This ranking assumes that you don't count the Thursday and Friday of March Madness a holiday of course.
Only four days til we trade political ads for Christmas add.
A trade I will gladly make, as they are mildly less suicide inducing.
You, along with several others here, missed one:
http://stoutday.com/
I, for one, did not miss it, celebrating with a Speedway Stout. Oops, wrong thread. :o
Alas - I'm not a fan of the reason behind it, but I love having that day be a holiday. I've run the Tufts Health Plan 10k for Women starting on Boston Common every year for the past 10. Every few years, it's also my birthday. I'd be very said if we no longer got the day off. But, I wouldn't mind rebranding it.
Voting is open for men's soccer Lowe's Senior Class award: http://www.seniorclassaward.com/vote/mens_soccer_2016/
To make up for the times Cleveland State has taken the fall with the NCAA for the "big boys", you can vote for Sergio Manesio of Cleveland State to start making amends. :D
I had to fire someone today.
Worst part of my job.
Sorry about that.
I got fired once. I hated the job and was trying to figure out a way to leave gracefully. I landed on my feet in less than a month at the perfect job for me at the time. So, it all worked out, but it was an unpleasant experience. I wanted to yell, "You can't fire me, I quit!" but I wanted the severance more.
I got fired because the big boss hired me to do one job but his lieutenant wanted me to do another. I was not qualified to do the other job and she kept asking me why things were taking so long. I trained myself up as fast as I could (and I really do mean trained myself), by putting in extra hours that I was not being paid for. I had finally started to feel comfortable doing the job I was not qualified for about a week before they fired me. I do not think the person who fired me felt the slightest bit bad about it. I held it together. I didn't even slap her when she told me I was not an expert at the job I was not hired to do. Toxic environment and I was better off out of it, but, still, I got fired. Yuck.
I haven't been fired, but I did leave a situation I was not comfortable with earlier than I probably would have liked. The business had been losing money for years and lost $18 million the year before I took over. We lost $8 million or so my first year there and made $7 million my second year. BUT on a smaller revenue base. And that didn't sit well with my boss. We would have made more going forward and grown revenue for the next several years if they would have stuck to the path I had set out. I told my boss good luck and departed. They broke even the next year before tipping back into losing money again. BTW, my boss did get fired 2 months after I left.
My life has been much better since leaving that job.
May the spork be with you!
Killed another thread didn't I?
So, fall BACK!
I expect all of you to check those smoke detector batteries!
My house has nine smoke detectors, I have to buy 9 volt batteries in bulk.
Celebrated the life of a former choir director today. He had quite the musical career and taught many people. The service was filled with music. His wife, who was our music director/organist for many years, played for the service. His daughter sang a solo as well as in the choir. He died way too young from cancer. A cure needs to be found.
Thanks, BD. Never good to see a talented person who touched many lives leave this early much too early. Beverly Sills spied his talent early on in his career. It was fun to hear his oldest brother talk about how proud he was of his little brother coming from Alabama to make such a mark on the musical world.
Amazing how an age that would have, once, seemed very old (60) is not nearly old enough the closer you come to that number yourself. His daughter is a senior in college - too young to lose a parent. she did a wonderful job singing for him. (I was chicken and insisted on singing from the balcony at the beginning of my dad's service. Didn't want to look into anyone's face while I sang. Not sure I could have done that even if I was a trained singer.)
Also sorry to hear that DinK. My condolences to his family.
Another two loss weekend for me. (College football) At least both were to ranked teams. And both Duke and Vandy had good efforts. Just couldn't get the upsets.
Football has put me in a fetal position over here, too.
Human behavior evolves but often reverts. For example, small children who understand what lying is often give muddled, rolling responses as they seach for a viable reason to cover their fabrications.
My Sling TV service is not working. Appears to be countrywide. I guess I'll have to watch more football.
My 16 year old daughter is growing up. So not ready for this.
Well, you do get an hour back tonight.
Can someone please beat Alabama in football?
I thought of a fun posting game.
But then I forgot it by the time I came back to the boards.
Blame it on Fall back?
There should be more early morning posting.
Today's morning dose of ketchup brought to me by Roast Beef Hash. Sure, it may be bad for me, but it did it's job well. Now, how will my lunch catsup arrive?
My morning so far...

I appreciate the extra hour of sleep last night, but as I am always a little prone to the Sunday blues anyway, I am not feeling good about the early sunset (getting dark an hour earlier) tonight.
Hopefully it doesn't get me too down. Any suggestions on how to stay cheery?
Nothing from the Ymmmm! thread?
Serenity Now, Serenity Now...
Just doing what I have to do to make it through Tuesday.
Maybe I should assume the fetal position also.
I used to work for a large supplier of raw materials to the adult incontinence marketplace.
I've never worked for a company that distilled alcohol.
Not usually the material, but more likely the topical hydrophillic surfactants used to allow the waste to pass through but limit its return motion. However, I'm certain that all manufacturers would strongly advise against such continuous use. So, make sure your friend knows to change it every once in a while...
My next band is Dumpster Fire.
Excellent süggestion OPK.
Daylight savings ends, where 9:30 on a Sunday night feels late.
This qualifies as posting during the wee hours.
There's a football game Thursday night. They can still GTH.
And to make up for the fact that unc will receive little or no punishment from the NCAA but Cleveland State will get hammered, don't forget to vote for the Cleveland State soccer player that is a finalist for the Lowe's Senior Class award.
Here's the link: http://www.seniorclassaward.com/vote/mens_soccer_2016/
It's not a competition. ;)
But.
Does anybody remember why I started the LTE and/or the significance of the date? I'll retell the story if anybody needs it.
I started the thread on the one year anniversary (minus one day) of the day my son was diagnosed with a brain tumor. I have yet to meet a parent in the infusion clinic who can't rattle off the exact date of what I have come to call Diagnosis Day. That first year as Diagnosis Day approached, I found I really needed a distraction. I did two things that first year - start the LTE and host a Winter Solstice Dessert Open House party at my house. Both are still going on.
Yes - a dessert party, although I have some fruit and nuts and cheese and crackers but mostly desserts.
I did not know either BD but I am happy that you found some distraction and maybe a few laughs here.
Peace be with you and the entire BD family!
And there were big happeninga last week on that front.
What type of bread does Mularkey go well on? It's a rare delicacy that must be savored.

Brought this back from Ireland this summer, voted whiskey of the year there. Cannot tell you how good this is.
But tomorrow is fetal position, rot gut and Depends. Quantity, not quality.
Bowl game funds?

Possible, but not probable. Sadly. I'm using mine for holiday ales.
The hubby's favorite single malt is, I believe, Talisker. It's certainly up there in his rankings. I got him that Scotch a Day Advent Calendar for an early Christmas present last year.
I've made five straight (and must give big props to lurking BrotherInLawPK for making the last one happen, because I would have likely skipped NY despite our making the other three Cut Bowls together). Until we're out, we're still in. Go to HELL you cheating puss-sucking Tar Heels. Burn in Hell.
Retirement brings out the stadium/soccer/captains chair on our front lawn (where I can yell at the young'ins), a very loud 60s/70s classic rock mix, a Cuban cigar (maybe) and a double or triple (neat, of course) of a fine bourbon and/or Scotch TBD. It'll be an open invitation evening.
OPK - I saw the Talking Heads (Stop Making Sense tour) in Carmichael Auditorium fall of my junior year at Duke. I won the tickets in a contest on WXDU. Should have taken you. The guy I took wasn't the most fun, but, he did have a car.
And no, I'm not adding a discussion of the Talking Heads to the Presidential thread. ;)
jk and I went to high school together.
He doesn't remember me.
I remember seeing the SMS movie at the Carolina Theatre in Durham when it was released (1986?). Not sure if we overlapped, I was at Duke Fall '84 - Spring '88.
Yes, you should have taken me. But I forgive you, because I have a magnanimous heart and a generous spirit.
Is anyone heading to Vegas for the UNLV game next month? Let me know. We should grab drinks.
And yes, I deliberately posed that question in this thread.
I remember that the day I toured Duke as a high school kid was the day after Neil Young had played in Cameron. Sealed the deal for me. I had a bootleg of that show for years, sure I still have it somewhere although doubt I have a cassette player.
Hope you didn't haze me on an East-West bus or something. Hope I didn't spill a beer on you at he Down Under or at the bar/restaurant in the basement of Gilbert-Adams (forget the name).
Correct, it's all a bit hazy. Didn't hang in the Slideaway too much; crowded and I don't shoot pool.
Freshman year I lived on North (Hanes), and tended to just hunker down up there or at the Phi Kap section on East. Back in my counter-culture days. (Now, just anti-culture or non-culture).
I recall it being known as Whippie back in the day. One of my Army buddies went there. His first duty station was Bahrain. He managed to piss off the officer responsible for LT duty assignments. He was an avid drinker of potent potables. Bahrain made him go through withdrawal.
WPI, pronounced whippy, right? The virtual space bar on my tablet gets stuck sometimes. Strange. Nope, I didn't. He and I and a hundred others met at Fort Gordon, GA. The West Pointers were notorious for their binge drinking. I'm a bit surprised no one died during the six months of OBC.

Still have that guitar.
