Wow, good catch on that one. Hmmm...

Here's a link to an impressive rendition of The Hallelujah Chorus by some French monks. Well worth a listen: http://oxdown.firedoglake.com/diary/2622
I'm going in a different direction right now... listening to a band called Indigenous - blues / rock guitar slingers in the Stevie Ray vein...
Boy, I wish I could order people to take a vow of silence...
Maybe you could get one in the Way Beyond section of a Bed Bath and Beyond ;)
Indigenous is wonderful. Nanje can lay it down!
After the brothers, I couldn't figure whether to stand or jump. :D
Looks like spring is finally getting to SE PA - temps finally crossed the magic 70 degree barrier and green things are sprouting all over the place. (Especially in my fridge -)
The young Turks should finally get some chance to do some digging in their own dirt this weekend...
No nap - but did play in the dirt. Removed dead things, pulled weeds, thought about what I can add to the planters/flower beds. Even relocated a few works from the patio into the flower box. A good day.
Just don't go and take a dirt nap on us...
It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. :D
I did my morning run with my dog, ate my oatmeal with stuff in it, and now I'm clicking through the on line routine.
I'm going outside soon to begin the spring time yard work. Fortunately, I love to do yard work.
Life is good. :)
It's beautiful here at the beach, but with a slight chill in the air. Can't wait for days in the 80's
It was an absolutely fabulous day in Durham. Went to the spring game, saw several posters and "former" posters at the game and our "brunchgate". A very good time was had by all.
After the game I went to the Card Gym lot and visited the 1989 Phi Kappa Psi tent (one of many tents). Played beer pong. It has been a long time since I've played beer pong. It is still a wonderful game! :D
Saw Scott Goetsch (class of '79) while walking to Koskinen Stadium for the end of the Duke - Army lacrosse game. We won 10 - 6. Scott says hi to everyone on the DBR boards!
CathyCa got her picture taken with Coach K and I for one am jealous!
Apparently, I should have taken that nap, but not a dirt nap. The above should have read worms - I relocated several worms from the patio to the flower box.
Tonight, I thinned a few hostas and sent them home to a friend. Spring and working in the yard is a good thing.
12 hours 'tween posts. Shame on you OZZIE. I know you were up at 3-4 AM posting somewhere:rolleyes:;).
Or is that just crazietalk on my part...
Eh, since I am posting today, I may as well add to this thread and rehabilitate my post count a little.
After we visited with the folks in the basketball office, CL15876 and I walked over to the Gothic Book Shop and I bought Coach K's new book and got to visit with him and Jamie. It was great to catch up with him again, if only for a few minutes.

No posts today? That's not just crazie, it is not right!
I'm certainly not going to look it up, but I wonder when the last time we went a day without posting was?
I forgot to write 9F on the jersey but, that's OK. Not a good day for sending people there anyway.
I'm sending some good thoughts to William "Refridgerator" Perry today. He's in the hospital.
:D :D Happy Wednesday! For the first time in 3.5 months, this day truly symbolizes the middle of the week for me! It's a good day! :D :D
Do I change status for post #2,100? Inquiring minds want to know.
And the answer is no.
You sound so disappointed. I'm sorry for you. :(
But not as sorry as I am for these morons:
http://tech.yahoo.com/news/ap/200904...e_st/us_odd217
Tried to break the texting record and one of them got a $26K phone bill in a large box. The best part is that one of them said his wife wasn't a fan of it. I'm just shocked either of these guys HAS a wife. :p
My tea bag sank to the bottom. It's just sitting on the bottom, even after I poke it. I never saw that happen before.
Should I be worried?
I always wondered what happened on the Off Topic forum. Fascinating
I haven't posted much anywhere lately...darn fantasy baseball.
We got a cell phone for the eldest of the young Turks. I am very nervous...
Verizon wants to charge $2 a month for something called "detailed billing". What's up with that? So if I choose to be a cheapskate they're going to send me a 3 x 5 index card with "Pay this: $175.64" on it? But wait, there's more! Then you have to choose from about 500 different phones - where is Henry Ford when you need him? Yeesh...
As I'm sure you know, detailed billing lists every call and text message, in and out from each number. You've seen TV news stories where parents get their cell bill in 12" x 12" x 12" boxes instead of an envelope and the bill is $2,600.00 because of the 14,000 text messages?
I certainly suggest you get the plan with unlimited text messaging. Personally, I don't understand the allure of texting instead of calling, but obviously the kids, and many adults, do! Until I became friends with many on this board I never texted. Now I do text occasionally, at 15 cents each (when you're sitting in Cameron during a game and can't hear a phone call, texting is the only way to go!)
I don't know how old your eldest is, but I certainly recommend you have a sit down with him/her and set some ground rules, and then review the results with him/her each of the first few bills. I think the $2/month for at least a couple of months would be worth the object lesson for your son/daughter. After that, assuming he/she complies with your rules and knows you're monitoring usage, you could probably drop it.
I got my daughter her own cell phone the day she got a drivers license 11 years ago. My peace of mind was well worth it, and still is! (Of course, she's no longer on my bill and hasn't since she graduated from college and got her first job five years ago. :) )
Driver's licenses?!?! AAAGH!!! I can only take so much at one time!!! Let me wrap my head around the cell phone before we even think about going there... It was only yesterday the little gobblers were newly hatched, all covered in fuzz, and wobbling around their nest making tiny peeping noises...
Seriously, thanks for the good advice, Oz... I think we did OK on the consumer education due diligence... Just felt like a little Monday morning mini-rant... Besides, if you can't make fun of the phone company, who can you make fun of? (other than people who end sentences with prepositions...)
That's the kind of nonsense up with which I will not put! ;)
This thread currently has 12,237 posts and 137,384 views and it started on 12-20-2007.
The John Wall thread has 1,724 posts and 219,084 views and it started on 1-02-2008.
Almost 100,000 more views for one person...
Against my better judgement, I went and read the last few pages of the John Wall thread to see what all the fuss is about. Yuck. Blecch. Patooey.
Somehow the worst of sportsbabble radio got teleported over to EK - too much repetitive redundancy to find the good posts (and don't get me wrong, I did find a few). I can't even imagine what the Kentucky boards are like...
I prefer the general weirdness in OTB - we got beer, pastrami, movies, and don't forget the dead Koreans in DiK's backyard...
I had a cat hair in my soup. Does that make the weird, wild, sordid list? ;)
This is really starting to sound like the "stay on topic" thread.:cool::rolleyes::D
I'm too tired to watch the Celtics tonight, anybody know how they did?
I just looked it up, the Celtics won in overtime. Man, Celtic-Bulls has been a series! I was at the hospital today with the little guy. He's fine, just a check-up but it always wipes me out when I have to spend the afternoon over at MGH. So, really, I was expecting a close game and I just did not have the energy to deal with overtime. I should have DVR'd it so I could watch it tomorrow. They will probably rebroadcast it locally.
Without KG, the Celts are struggling with a team they should have eliminated in 5. I think Boston area fans have known for awhile now, no chance at a repeat. Maybe the Bruins can bring home the Stanley Cup.
I like to go to the beach. It's not enough to worry about sharks, now I have to worry about spies?
And the spies came out of the water,
But you're feeling so bad 'coz you know
And the spies hide out in every corner.
But you can't touch them no,
'Coz they're all spies.
Oh my BD, I hope you do get to see it (no spoliers here). I might even have to wander over to the NBA Playoffs thread and see what they're up to. If you haven't already, go read Bill Simmons on Celts-Bulls on espn.com. This is already a classic - the Bulls are going to be very very good. And Paul Pierce has heuvos the size of coconuts...
Meanwhile, I'm in a fight with Mrs Turk because I want to watch the last 20 seconds of overtime (quite eventful, hint hint), and she wants to watch "Without A Trace". arrgh...
The Civony ads are back but they are not nearly so bodacious (at least to me...) I can't see how they'd do much for the ladies either...
I bet some entrepreneur could make a few bucks selling those helmets at Philly Eagles games, though...
Wouldn't they sell better at a Vikings or Raiders game?
Has anybody played Civony?
Dangnabbit, I went over to check out the Stay On Topic thread and it's closed. There was some pretty funny stuff in there - would have loved to have it on LTE...
For example, BostonDevil said she was going to switch teams. That can only mean she's dumping the Patriots and going to start rooting for the Steelers...
Nah, I googled it and never had much interest in those kinds of role-playing games, but I'd be interested to read the assessment of those who do...
Oh, and as for the helmet on the toothless dude, there was a spread-wing thingy on top of it that reminded me of the old Philly Eagles logo...
I didn't say I was going to switch teams, only that I was tempted. At least I think that's what I said. It's what I meant. And I kind of already root for Australia in the Olympics anyway, all other things being equal, especially in the Winter Olympics.
Here's what I wanted to post in response to the Spanish Inquistion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJQVlVHsFF8
See, when I hear Spanish Inquisition, this is what I think of.
Apologies in advance. ;)
I earned my driver's license today. Woot woot!
Here it is 8:15 a.m. and I click on the OT board and see that my post in the Shoulder Surgery thread (hope that goes really really really well today :) ) is the last post on the OT board until this one? What's up with that? Where'd everyone go? Seems crazie to me! :D
Jack Lambert was my high school crush followed closely by Lynn Swann. Lynn did win brownie points with me as I got to meet him after their 2nd Super Bowl victory. :) Jack went to a movie instead. :(
I can root for the Patriots with out any problem - unless they play the Steelers or the kansas city chefs.
So let's get back to spandex. BD was tempted to switch teams because she likes the Australian wiomen hoops team's spandex unis. Maybe the WNBA should try that to keep the league from going under...
Me too!! So, when my son was in high school, he attended a hoighty-toighty Seder hosted by my ex's pretentious aunt and uncle. They were trying to have a serious discussion at the table about the Inquistion and Josh bursts out singing, "It's the Inquisition . . ." Only a handful of us appreciated this :D
This thread is soooooooo long.
614, that's my guess!
Good point. You really can change the display and font to change the number of pages any way you like. I personally was thinking that using of copy and paste that it would be over 1,000 pages, but really it could be 308, 616, or 1228, depending on how you display the posts per page.
Oh my, 50-1... some bettors are gonna get paid!
23 1/2 hours between posts here? Heavens to mergatroid!
Snagglepuss! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snagglepuss
I didn't remember Snagglepuss either, but here's a trip down memory lane for those "of a certain age..."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanna-Barbera
Wacky Races was a favorite... I used to be able to list them all in order...
1965-1975 had to be the golden age of TV animation. Everything since has been dreck, with the only exceptions being the Simpsons and South Park... I'm not ready to put Family Guy in their company yet...
It's warming up in LA.
Interesting, its cooled off in Boston
We have had 2 days without rain. People have stopped building their arks - although storms are expected tomorrow.
Its a bit cold(mid 70's) here in California.:D
And in other Eastern PA news, my nephew broke his foot. He had qualified for the league and district meets and won't be able to run now. Bummer for his senior season. :(
Ok, soooooo... 2 fire alarms in 3 days. Are you KIDDING me? Sunday was in the late afternoon- someone (surprise surprise) burned something in their kitchen. Fans, people! Open a window! I cannot explain to you how many fire alarms we've had due to people who burn stuff in their kitchen (and none of them was me!). Sheesh... Last night was around 10:30- they were smoking. I think the genius had must have had about 27 people all smoking at once in his apartment. Both brain surgeons (no offense to brain surgeons) immediately identified themselves to the fire dept. upon arrival.
Not only is it the usual hassle, it's loud & screechy (no sleeping through this- it'd wake the dead and I seriously am afraid Chloe's ears will bleed one of these times) and the cat goes absolutely bonkers and hides, usually under a bed. It's such a joy to literally have to drag a cat that's scared witless out from under a bed... I'm so afraid I'm going to hurt her! Then she clings to me shaking and no joke, dives into her case (which she normally shuns like it'll kill her). Then I grab my purse, keys, & the cat in her case and we traipse downstairs and sit outside for about 15 minutes, during which time she sits and shakes and shakes and shakes and never tries to escape (shows how scared she really is!). Once we're allowed back in, I usually wait until most other people & their pets are in so Chloe doesn't freak out further.
But seriously, how hard is it to OPEN A WINDOW? I joked w/ the LAFD that they must be getting tired of coming to my complex. He said they know it's someone cooking (well except for the smokers). I think I'm going to give the LAFD cookies next time. There *are* some hotties (ok so there is something of an upside). ;)
Thanks. He runs the mile. It just broke - none of the usual dropping something on it or anything. Apparently you can just stretch it wrong and, if it is fatigued, a metatarsal will break. He'll look great in a tux for prom in two weeks with the lovely boot on his foot. (I don't think he will have it off by then.)
He was probably trying to keep up with his Uncle Wayne, who went to get stitches and a sling from a bicycle accident about the same time. Unlucky week in our family.
It is an actual break - not "just" a stress fracture. It sent his mother, the physical therapist, searching the literature/net as she couldn't figure out how it broke without something dropping on it. Apparently, they were doing some toe raises at the end of practice that must have caused it. Of course, it hurt but he tried to run at the meet two days later and couldn't walk off the track on his own. At least he has enough points, or whatever they count, that he should get his letter. (I like to brag about my nieces and nephews. They are great!)
I didn't think you were - I did the quotes because I'm not sure there is much a difference between a non-compound break and a stress fracture. They both hurt and are no fun.
Now Wayne came home from his visit to the Emergency Department with stitches and a "subtle" break. He wasn't sure what a subtle break was except it meant 7-10 days in a sling and not a cast.
Ouchie!! Hope all the broken bones heal quickly... Here's an ugly-sounding injury for you: a guy at work was trying to fix up a flagstone path and was trying to move one of the stones. He said he wasn't tugging all that hard, but then he heard a sound "like mashing your fist into a bowl of potato chips" and turns out the tendon connecting the bicep to the forearm tore right off and the muscle went into his upper arm like a windowshade.
I know a couple fat old men like me who have torn their Achilles tendons but this is the first I've heard of a bicep tear doing yardwork.
I hate when that happens...
I tore the short end of the bicep on my right arm last May hitting a softball. We discussed it here. I think I posted pictures of my entire right bicep being black and blue. Of course, last week I posted pics on crazietalk.net http://www.crazietalk.net/ourhouse/v...php?f=3&t=165 about my ankle getting hit by a batted ball. Here is what I said last August in EJ's "bleeding injury" threadThe short end bicep injury they don't fix. The long end they surgically repair. It heals (well, it recovers and you compensate, but it never reattaches itself) in 3 to 4 weeks and I was playing again. I rarely notice any affect, although I was very careful when lifting things with my right arm - I didn't carry a milk jug for quite a while, but now it's fine.Quote:
I can't remember my last externally bleeding injury, but back in April when I tore the short head bicep tendon in my right arm playing softball, http://www.jacobrozbruchmd.com/nycor...eon/biceps.htm my right bicep turned red and purple two days later, from top to bottom and side to side, for about 3 weeks. Then it all disappeared very quickly. My doctor told me the injury had a 4 week recovery time, but I was playing again in only 3 weeks, and have had no lingering affects. Then a shortstop hit me in the right butt cheek as I was going back to first base after he caught a line drive. That too, left a mark, but I only showed it to my wife.
DiK, now you know someone who has had it!
Today's DBR banner ad: "Choose Your Goddess"
oh my, what do I want to say about that one? So many ways we could go...
don't get banned... walk away... just walk away...
<phew>
that was close...
I don't recall however if you mentioned whether you had any problems performing your 12 ounces curls with your left hand/arm when your right bicep was injured.;)
If you did not, I guess that begs the amphibious comment/question...;)
More crazietalk...
Time to up the weight to an honest 16 oz... Just leave those 40 oz. alone!!
:D
Posting for the fun of it!
Yep, that was fun.
Does anybody else ever think about going into somebody's living room, trash the place, then make them wait 60 seconds before they can say anything? Just me? OK.
I have installed Windows Vista on my new desktop computer, and am now installing the 48 updates it downloaded. So I'm still using my Acer netbook to post and do everything else.
Oz, you're a brave man. My approach is to take whatever pig OS ships with the box, and then every few months or so let microsoft install its bazillion patches overnight. Our current PC still has some life in it, so we'll wait until we're sick of it and then see what all this Vista fuss is about...
Today's banner ad weirdness: "real age" vs. "calendar age"...
OK, I'll have a go. Here's what I think mine would look like: Calendar age: 46 Real age: 66. And don't forget "internet age" - the age I pretend to be on certain types of message boards (nudge nudge wink wink): 26.
It was pretty simple, really. The base installation, and this was the "Ultimate" version of Vista, took under 45 minutes. The updates, and I ran live update three times to get them all, took under an hour. I've got 2 of my 3 printers running, including the HP All-in-One where I had to download the driver (including the scanner and fax stuff) from HP.
Right now I am restoring my almost 20,000 files from Carbonite.com. Man, is this a life saver!:D Well worth the $50/year. And it's a slow process - probably won't be finished until after I get back from my regular Friday night dinner (and drinking) activities about 9 pm. The progress bar says I've restored 7100 files with 13,000 remaining, but that is only 10%, so I guess all the photos haven't been done yet. It may be tomorrow morning when it finishes.
Skip Vista, go straight for Win7. Starting in July, when you buy a new PC with Vista, you'll get free upgrade rights to Win7. Since the release candidate for Win7 is already available, you never have to use Vista at all. (You will have to update to the RTM version of Win7 when it becomes available.)
About 36 hours since the last starship entry here...
As The Boss asks in Radio Nowhere (I think), "Is there anybody alive out there?"
Who are the Roos? Did you go to Australia?
Or did you mean ROUS?
"Once an ROUS, always an ROUS!"
(Rodents of Unusual Size? I don't think they exist...)
Anyone have any hairstyle recommendations for a guy with relatively short (the barber uses a #2 clipper on the sides) and quite thick hair? I'm contemplating changing my hairstyle for the first time in 10 years but I have no idea what I want. I currently get a fade of sorts I guess. Short on the sides and gets longer as it moves up and towards the front. I've been looking at some of the "messier" looks, but I don't want a fauxhawk unless its a very tame/shorter one. (I work for the police department, so I can't exactly come in sporting anything I want! :D ) Thanks to anyone with some advice!
Cormac - welcome to LTE!!
I am astonishingly inarticulate in how I want my hair cut. I go to the same guys all the time and I usually mumble something like "almost as short as a buzz cut and kinda tight around the ears and neck". And then they cut it any way they want anyhow. All I want them to do is leave enough on top so I can part it and I don't have to deal with it for another few months. My brother cuts his own hair (probably using your #2) but I don't have the onions to try it myself. And I have no interest in any type of haircut that requires "product" of any kind (other than water)...
Sounds like you might be limited to left part / right part / no part if you need to be crisp. It seems like more and more Caucasians are going with the chrome dome but you need a certain type of head for that and the patience for the regular maintenance... I have a big ol lopsided Charlie Brown head and I'm lazy, so I don't qualify on either count...
I feel you. I usually walk in and kind of sputter out some directions...ummm errmm short on the sides, a #2 please, and umm a little longer on top. Thanks! I just let the barber figure out the rest! This is why I have finally broken down and have decided to take in a photo of whatever style I like. I'm not big on products, but I would be willing to give them a whirl every once and a while.
Thanks! I will have to keep that in mind if I ever get annoyed/brave enough to take the plunge.
Unfortunately no, I'm at work and I am getting my ears lowered right after. I know, I know, I shouldn't procrastinate, but I just decided last night/this morning to try something new. Plus right now, my hair is much longer than normal and kind of looks more like a fro than the fade-ish it usually does! Thanks all for the help! I'll be sure to report back tomorrow and give more of a heads up in the future!
Sue,
Did your neighbors move into our office building? We just had a fire drill. Usually they warn us one is coming but no warning this time so we trooped outside. At least it wasn't raining. :) No firemen, though. :( They did give us ice cream sandwiches as we came back in. :D
Thanks, Sue, I really liked the guy in Link #1.
Just moved the last of my stuff out of my old apartment! Yee haw! Now to unpack...
So glad I don't have any unpacking to do. Oops! Good luck with that Arkie!
Sue, those haircut links are interesting but the haircut paradox to me is why guys would want to pay good money to look sloppy - I can do that all by my ownself...
That and why kids pay hundreds of dollars for jeans that look like they have been run over and dragged through the streets. Can't you just buy a cheap pair and do that yourself? Why pay big bucks for the "pseudo-homeless" look when you can do that on the cheap? This is something I do not understand about my generation...
:( People that drive under the influence stink!:(
VERY glad you're OK!
Was your car totaled? Almost totaled? Will the insurance company pay you a fair value for it? Did you owe money on it? Were you "upside down" on the loan? Do you have gap insurance on your loan? DD can give you some advice on dealing with the insurance company to make sure you get a fair value on your settlement if you keep the car and have it repaired (compensation for lost future resale value after a major wreck).
Fortunately, the car is paid for so no upside down issues. My guess is that they will total it rather than repair - it is 13.5 years old. I did not get across the street to talk to the other guy before the field sobriety test was issued and he was taken away. I hope he has insurance - but I never got to collect that. I haven't even researched what my wonderfully tuned auto is worth - not much is my guess.
WOW! I'm glad that you're okay. Did you go to the doctor or anything?
The police report should have the other driver's insurance information in it. In a few days, you'll begin to get all kinds of solicitations in the mail from attorneys who want to represent you in your personal injury case against this guy. Some of the attorneys will send you courtesy copies of the police report. I have a basket full of solicitations that I received last fall when I got hit.
What kind of car are you going to get now? In the interim, make the other driver's insurance company pay for a rental car for you.
