That is better than the Mall, its best days were many years ago.

When I hear Siouxsie, I always think of this:

I don't know that mall or its neighborhood well enough to really say. The list of stores on their site suggests a wealthier clientele though. I'm not sure what competing shopping experiences are nearby.
As I recall, South Square Mall (and all its leases) were purchased by the Southpoint developer so they could shut it down - as the only major competition at the time - before it became the big box/bargain strip center it is today.

Is it coincidence that the Ymmm, Beer thread has gained ground on LTE during the stay-at-home orders when the beer is flowing like wine? I think not.
The only mall that appears to be thriving(at least before Covid-19) was the high end mall which counted Neiman-Marcus, Nordstrom, and others as their anchor tenants. The big attraction for the place, besides being next to Six Flags Fiesta Texas, is a location for foreign visitors to get immediate return of the local sales tax collected from them.
Growing up in Durham, I spent a huge chunk of my life at South Square Mall. It broke my heart a little when it started going downhill. Someone posted some old photos of the inside on Facebook, and we were talking about how much the mall in Stranger Things looked like South Square. Obviously, the Duffer brothers used it as a model since that was where they grew up, but how they managed to find a mall in the Atlanta area that had the same railing is amazing. I really think it must have been the same builders.
Anyway, I live not far from Southpoint and have NEVER set foot in it. Was against it from the beginning and still am. I mourn the rolling pastures and 200-year-old oak trees that were once there.
Somber tone for the LTE this morning. Sorry.
The land was originally bought by the American Kennel Club, and the plan was to move their headquarters here from NY. Apparently, this plan was not known to its members, and they raised a stink about moving it. The plan was scrapped, and the land was sold to the mall developers. The Durham City Official lying jerks promised to not let sprawl occur, but of course it did. And it never brought anywhere near the tax revenue that they said it would.
The kennel club would have been much nicer. Just sayin'.
Maybe we should reboot the LTE?
Whopping excitement this morning! New water line was installed to the barn. Got to sit in the digger for a few seconds.
Yessiree, some country fun!
MLB Draft anyone?
I’ve been a Joni Mitchell fan ever since I was four years old and they played “Help Me” all summer long (summer of ‘74) at the neighborhood swimming pool which I used to go to almost every day. Those are powerful memories for me and that song brings me back every time I hear it.
Thanks for posting ‘Big Yellow Taxi’, another great song of Joni’s.
Good morning! I didn’t “find” that song until later in life. But it does bring back memories from that era for me.
Ty Cobb stole home base an astonishing 54 times in his career, including 8 times in a single season (1912). The next closest was Max Carey with 33.
Just in case you want to work that into a conversation today.
I'm also seeing some sources say that he "only" had 50. The first source I cited lists 50 with Detroit, and 4 with Philadelphia.
It is not an officially-counted statistic independent of generic "stolen bases" so perhaps there is some room for error.
Eleven players stole home twice in a single game, including Shoeless Joe Jackson and Honus Wagner. The most recent was Vic Power for Cleveland on August 14, 1958.
I just fixed the family cuisinart and am feeling pretty manly.
Now it’s time to blanch some dandelion greens.
My internet was out all day yesterday and most of today.
They are doing a lot of construction around here - I blame the City of Newton.
I don't think I've ever eaten dandelion greens.
I drove into the office today because I had to get work done. I had to do a wellness screening in order to enter the building. I wore a mask for almost the whole time. My readers kept fogging up though so I pulled it down from my nose when I was inside my cubicle, tried to remember to exhale through my mouth. I was able to find parking on the street, I overstayed in a 2 hour zone (for 3 hours) but didn't get a ticket! I was halfway between my building and me car (about a 3 block walk) when the skies opened up. I arrived drenched.
Mask report from the Longwood Medical Area - high levels of mask wearing.
If by reboot you mean attract a few new posters to the LTE - I am definitely behind that!
Community-Supported Agriculture. We go to a local farm and pick up a batch of veggies every two weeks, essentially eat through their season. Your part of Texas isn't exactly ag land so maybe not a common feature?
Good for you but, like I said, can be pretty bitter. People chop them up and put them in salads but you need to mix them with a gentler lettuce if your're going to do that.
After a brief experimentation, I have stopped using DoorDash.
I suspected as much (independent restaurants having a tough time). That’s why since the pandemic began we have been ordering food, and picking it up ourselves, every day for either brunch or dinner from an independent restaurant in Chapel Hill or Durham.
It’s not difficult to avoid the chains, as the independent restaurants have better and fresher food anyway. I know most everybody says restaurant food is not as healthy for you as food prepared yourself, but I feel pretty darn good. And I certainly don’t mind having less kitchen clean-up and not having to figure out a meal for four people with wildly-divergent tastes.
Help keep those restaurants in business folks!
I’ve been doing my own cooking for the most part since before this thing started. Most of the restaurants in my neck of the woods are chains. The hazards of mass suburbia. The few that aren’t have not impressed me. Downtown SA and some other areas have much more vibrant culinary adventures. I’m not sure I want to turn dinner into that big of an event.
I know I should be supporting local businesses more. Recently, though, my additional spending has been going to local charities supporting food availability for residents as well as animal welfare groups and the local Fisher House as it directly supports the military community.
I heard a nice young lady in the news say that so many people are adopting pets during the stay at home pandemic orders that there is a global puppy shortage. A global puppy shortage.
I guess that’s good but I’m sure a lot of people adopted without a care plan for when things return to normal.
Does garlic powder really go bad? Garlic cloves I understand...
I don't even use Uber! Although the last time I took a cab around here was a bad idea. I will at some point start using Lyft. I'm never gonna do Uber. The last time I was in NYC though, I took cabs everywhere. My friend who lives in the West 50s (I slept on her sofa bed) has converted to Uber but after taking cabs with me for a weekend said she might go back to using cabs as she found them easier to deal with than she remembered.
I’m not getting into anyone else’s car for a while.
Are you saying you threw out the garlic powder?
When I was a kid, we had a patch of wild mint plants growing in our backyard. Mowing over them always smelled so nice!
Not that I ever did the mowing, but it still smelled nice. We would open the sliding glass doors off the family room and let the scent of mint fill the room.
I don't get (have) to mow since I'm in a town home. I've planted stepables around my patio so that I get the scent when I walk around it, especially when working on the garden boxes. Corsican mint is my favorite - low ground cover with tiny leaves and a great mint scent.
I love the smell of basil after a good rainstorm. Heaven.
My little brother cracked the glass on said door one time by throwing a block at it (he was 3). It was a small crack and my parents left it. A couple of months later, my mom had some friends over and I was being shy hiding behind the curtains by the door. I decided it would be fun to see if I could swing on the curtains (I was 5), I grabbed hold, jumped, swung back and hit that crack smack in the middle. Next thing I know, I'm outside with a sliding glass door shattered all around me. Scared the (expletive deleted) out of my mother but I was not cut at all.
We’ve got basil and mint growing for use, not for mowing over.
Make a lot of minty lemonades during the summer. Good stuff.
-jk and I graduated from Jordan the same year but he doesn't remember me.
Yeah, yeah. I remember you. And I think I even remember which dorm you lived in at Duke (House CC?) although, to be fair, our paths rarely crossed once we both wound up at Duke. I hung out with very few Jordan types at Duke. I used to be fantastic with names. I'm not as good now but I'm still great with faces, so, I know that I should know your name.
Also, to be fair, I might not recognize you now unless you still have the blond shaggy 'do.
I take a 1 quart pyrex measuring cup of cold water and add three family sized tea bags or six regular bags. I add either a couple of sprigs of fresh mint leaves (maybe a tablespoon or two?) or one peppermint tea bag (during the winter when no mint is growing). Microwave for 5 minutes then let sit for a few minutes. In the meantime, put your sugar (if you use it - I use 1/3 cup) in your pitcher and add about 2 cups of cold water. The sugar WILL dissolve in cold water. Add the hot tea. Pour 2 more cups of cold water over the tea bags in the Pyrex. Let sit a minute or two, then add to pitcher. I tend to squeeze every bit of tea out of the bags that I can. Enjoy. You can also add one Constant Comment or any other flavored bag instead of mint.
I'm a sun tea man m'self, usually just Lipton bags.
As for pizza, my wife and I made one of our signature summer pies the other night on her delicious homemade crust:
Red sauce, garlic, mozzarella, gorgonzola, prosciutto, fresh basil, caramelized onions, roasted peaches. Yum.

I assumed 'dude' would be appropriate given your admission of a chest length mane in the other thread...
Yankees do not know how to make iced tea.
Yeah, I said it.
Snopes has this:

Glad I never got in the habit of making sun tea!
What tea brands do people use to make their iced tea?
I have never tried "refridgerator tea" either, but I plan to now.
Here is Bruce Willis’s response to your comment:

The Ymmm, Tea thread.
I miss running 5ks. Consequently, I have signed up to do the Massachusetts Virtual Endurance Challenge. You don't have to live in Massachusetts to do it. If anyone would like to join me, I apparently get perks if you sign up through my referral link - https://runsignup.com/Race/MA/ANYWHE...fCode=JGVCoKkv
I will be keeping my eyes open for the Twining's and/or Fortnam & Mason tea advent calendar this fall. Hope they do one. I will be ordering it in early October so I don't miss out!
I missed out last year. I did find the Adagio Tea advent calendar but sadly, I wasn't terribly impressed with the teas.
If you are ever looking for something different to do in Charleston, James Island has the only tea plantation in America and you can tour it. It’s owned by Bigelow.
Fun fact: tea bushes are kin to camellias. Camilla Sinensis
Fish tacos tonight. Wrapped up the carnitas tacos last night. Probably breakfast tacos for brunch on Sunday.
It's a good food week.
T-Bone and The Drewsk went to Five Guys and brought back burgers for everybody. I don't think it qualified as an adventure though.
Austin is the BBQ capital of Texas, but pales in comparison to a city a little further south when it comes to breakfast tacos. And the key ingredient? The tortilla.
https://youtu.be/zRklaiwIkoc
Nice. Yeah, tacos are easy to make good but hard to make transcendent --- one of the things that can do it is a fresh, warm, chewy tortilla. I would not sell the things that have come out of my press but I've hit a few doubles, maybe one triple.
By the way, that segment reminded me of my abdication of all things Pace. I used to house that stuff as a kid and now, as an adult who knows better, I wish I could travel back in time, kick my own a**, and get the quest to find salsa and hot sauce nirvana started that much sooner.
New York City? I still have a small jar of Pace Hot sitting around.
Saturday during summer = time to mow the lawn.
Guinea pigs love green leaf lettuce.
Yarn stores are open again in Massachusetts!!
I still owe wilson a scarf.
Trying to make sausage from scratch for the first time. Quarantine hobbies.
Any tips from the assembled?
First grind got really tangled coming through the grinder plate — I may be in over my head here.
Sample loose cook Was tasty though. Clumpy. Hope the wine and the second grind brings it together.
Then let’s see if I can stuff and twist the links . . . .
Second grind much better. Made sure it was really cold. May have had the blade backwards the first time too, not sure.
Another chill, then on to the stuffing process.
The LTE: Now the Ymm, Sausage thread.
Well, my biggest question is when should I use sauerkraut?
Does anyone use a smart watch that monitors heart rate?
Ok, even though it's been about a decade, I still intend to knit you a scarf. But, one of the sticking points is that after this much of a delay, I want it to be original, spectacular, and spectacularly perfect for you, so, perhaps I'm putting too much pressure on myself. ;)
Those beer boys are drinking again.
beergoddess (amazing wife who doesn't really like beer but is coming around to world-class fruited beers) got us a stay at home 4 course wine date dinner from local restaurant Mozelle's tonight. They got us 4 bottles of wine to pair with each course. Um no. But the Ceviche (NC grouper) with white Portuguese Foz de Arouce 2016 (no clue and can't even pronounce) was amazing. Second course - home-made light ricotta pasta dish (skipped the wine - not crazy. Us beer drinkers are used to lower ABV). Now on to entree...
and apologies for going with the alliteration, I know girls and non-binary people drink beer too. But beer boys just rolls off the tongue.
Is alliteration a bit like rhyming in poetry? Tolerated but looked down upon?
Course 3 - Entree - Campbell's Durif (no clue - beer boy here) - Australia (2016) - rare petite sirah from rutherglen (bunderbergdevil?) with powerful tannins (not a problem) with black cherry, charred oak, and coffee as prominent flavors which paired perfectly with Denver rub and pesto chimichurri on pork tenderloin. Sweet potato au gratin with swiss and cauliflower. Alliteraltion always appreciated
Winston aka the Dash -

bring on the cheese / dried fruit / Maderia course (with a very small glass of Madeira)
Ceviche and its sauce paired perfectly with the wine. I feel better that chef couldn't pronounce the wine either. The entree and wine were incredible. I always thought Milners and Ryans were better if you come to Winston, but this meal was great. Beergoddess likes Mozelles and she is always right. Dessert cheese dried fruit course with Madeira was amazing too.

Going grocery shopping early on a Sunday.
Good luck!
Once again in an empty church building on a Sunday morning. Even after all these weeks, it still feels strange.
It has only been 2 weeks, but feels like I should cut my hair again.
Slowly and stealthily going through the LP records that span decades...
Spooky Tooth, "You Broke My Heart So I Busted Your Jaw" went right into the discard pile. Very not PC.
Spooky Tooth?! Husband-of-weezie is still the man of mystery
Going against my kinder, gentler theme, Knives Out.
I wtched golf last evening. Never concede the 3 foot putt?
I have been seeing a little more of the TP, hand sanitizer, cleaning supplies, etc each time I go out. I even grabbed a couple of bottles of rubbing alcohol. What irks me is that, of all things, WITCH HAZEL is wiped out. Everywhere. I am assuming that ignorant people think they can make hand sanitizer out of it, even though it contains NO alcohol? I use it as a base for making bug repellent. I broke down and bought Target's last bottle of more- expensive Dickinson's b/c that is all I could find. I worry that people are thinking they are sanitized but aren't.
It appears the Sunday sabbatical continues...
IIRC it took almost 10 years to get to 20,000 posts. We've done another 8000 in 2 1/2 years.
I checked, I was right. We hit 20,000 a few days before the 10th anniversary.
Thanks for the giggles, Team!
Will this mask work?

Hit -16 lbs. since this whole thing started. Clear sign my diet and eating habits at the office were causing issues.
Congratulations. Every time I lose a couple of pounds I have a couple of drinks and they come right back on.
