mulching has once again been cancelled due to cold and yes, snow.
one member of our mulching team didn't think he was getting enough time on the pitch, so he's in the mulching portal. Even rookies want to mulch these days, none of this waiting 2-3 years crap.
Even better than expected. 10/10 would buy again.

They are Stan Smiths! There’s a whole new limited edition “Being Green” line made with sustainable materials, some of them green character-themed...there are also Rex (Toy Story), Mike Wazowski (Monsters, Inc.), and Incredible Hulk ones. But only one of them says this on the other heel, which I think is pretty fab.

There are a lot of shows about murder.
MrsPK watches a lot of murder tv shows. I didn’t really worry until recently, when she started taking notes.
is there anything tawdrier, or more predictable, than Dateline? Thirty minutes of stuff expanded into 120 minutes of repetitious fluff...the victim always had a great marriage, but lo and behold, the spouse is generally the killer, and is stupid.
Yeah. It’s pretty much always the husband or father.
Random violent crimes are scary and obviously do happen but if a wife is missing, it’s almost always the beau.
Seriously, who was Gone Girl’s target audience, then? Was it fantasy catering to husbands considering murder?
My wife works an exceedingly high stress job and she works 50 to 60 hour weeks in upper level hospital administration. She feels every bit of that stress and every one of those hours. When she gets home she wants to watch police procedural dramas because they are formulaic and uncomplicated. I think maybe my job is high stress, I just don't perceive it to be that way. And every 10 days or so I get to travel with an expense account and eat by myself in a new restaurant after talking to doctors, nurses and respiratory therapists. I'm one of those people who gets to travel for work and doesn't have to travel for work. I hate the TV shows that she watches but I recognize why she wants to watch them and why I should keep my damn mouth shut.

Stan Smith used to be the co-chair of the Duke Children's Classic, back when they had a tennis part. Probably got his autograph several times when I was little. He did mini clinics and kids would bring their racquets to the courts for a chance to hit with him.

So to recap: "Coban" isn't an element. I would have actually been more ok if they just wrote in "Colorado". At least that would have been an approved abbreviation. They also misspelled "Fluorine" here. And they are missing an "E", but that's ok because there is no "E" element, so I can overlook this. I am fairly certain no science majors work at this Starbucks on campus at the University of Florida and UF MIGHT be a safety school. And they got Iron right! We can build on this!
CEO townhall to discuss sale of company to PE.
The fact that it is usually a family member/someone known to the deceased came in handy a number of years ago. One of our elderly church members lived a few doors down from someone that was murdered. This, of course, made her very nervous. On our drive to choir that evening, I reassured her that it wasn't a random person that committed the crime but someone known to the deceased. I think I made her feel better and, of course, a week or two later it was determined that it was someone who knew the deceased. Can't remember the connection.
I knew that I might be totally making things up so she would feel more comfortable in her home but was 95% sure I was correct. I do miss Vernie - she was a wonderful, but sometimes annoying, person.
My wife and I used to frequent (weekly almost, pre-kid) Asheville Pizza and Brewing, where they do late run movies for $3 and you can enjoy your pizza and suds (should I cross-post this?) while you watch. I took her to see Gone Girl, thinking I had done a great "husband" thing because I assumed it was a RomCom. I assumed that because one of her friends had loaned her the book, which I had seen on her book shelf - my wife didn't know anything about the plot either.
Wow.
That's some movie to see TOTALLY unaware of the plot. I think our mouths were agape the entire time. We still laugh about it!
Well, we’ll see. I misspoke; not actually private equity, an investment arm of a private company that says they take long-term positions in public equities. They’ve been holding certain of their portfolio companies for decades.
Does anyone really like Fritos?
They always feel like a consolation prize. I guess if you had a good dip, they might be an okay delivery method.
Fritos rock.
Frito Pies in Santa Fe rock.
Ymm, Fritos.
I had a bag of fritos, they were Texas Grilled Fritos. These Fritos had grill marks on them. Hell yeah, reminds me of
something, when we used to fire up the barbeque and throw down some Fritos. I can still see my dad with the apron on, better flip that Frito, dad, you know
how I like mine. --Mitch Hedberg
I also love Fritos. Like crunchy Cheetos, they are an excellent salt delivery system. Because of that, neither snack can be eaten in large quantities, however, and I've never taken to Frito pie. The pie tends to makes the Fritos soggy, which defeats half the purpose.
I bet we've imbibed close to one another on at least one occasion. We should finally do that Asheville meet-up for vaccinated DBR folks. We could even go to that brewery that starts with a Z that you're trying to keep quiet; I still haven't checked it off my list.
My wife and I went to watch a movie at Asheville Pizza at least 3x/month, but then the movies that they were showing stopped being on our "want to watch" list. Then the kiddo came in late 2018, which put the kibosh on our near-weekly visits.
We did get takeout from there once during the past year. The Shear Delight pizza is our go-to; it was quite nostalgic!
There better be something more than atta boys when I’m done with that push-up challenge.
I’ve lit the grill. Destiny awaits.
My dogs' paws frequently smell of corn chips. I thought our dogs were weird, but apparently it is a thing.

as a history major, I know all about the Spanish Armadillo, and Sir Frank Drake really boxed their ears.*
*genuine aside: just read the new book on Frank...the Spanish were the pre-eminent world power, the Armada sent 130 ships to whomp the outmanned Brits, only 65 ships returned, Frank didn't lose a single ship. The word "rout" is insufficient to describe what happened (the weather was helpful, too...the perils of a road game).
The movie The Program filmed some scenes on campus my senior year. They were on Clocktower quad as I was headed to class one morning. I stopped to watch as Halle Berry was working. After a minute or so, I noticed David Justice was standing next to me. I didn't offer to share my bagel.
At least it wasn’t the roided up football player that painted his face like a skeleton. That guy was creepy.
Halle Berry is worth stopping to watch for sure!
The Katie Holmes sighting might be my best Hollywood star.
Was on a plane with Shaq once and met a lot of DC and business famous people.
Anyone recall the website for the bridge near East Campus where the trucks get stuck?
Every time you try to idiot-proof something, they make a better idiot!

Aunt bragging time - this is the vaccination program in Minnesota Niece Elizabeth has been working on: https://kstp.com/news/walz-visits-mo...field/6088553/
They are using transit buses to take the vaccine to people instead of having people come to the vaccine.
It has its own website http://11foot8.com/
And wikipedia page
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norfol...treet_Overpass
as the page mentions (and I think we got into this on another thread) the bridge was raised a few years ago...it's still not idiot proof, nor is it up to general standards, but it's not the trap it once was.
We have a similar idiot trap up here called the Smugglers Notch Road. At its narrowest point, only one car can navigate its tightest turn, and therefore the state has put up lots of big electric signs warning tractor trailers that they can't get thru, they'll be fined copiously if they try, and yet every year quite of few trucks manage to get big-time wedged, the kind of wedging which requires hours to untangle and very large tow trucks. The popularity of Google Map type navigation has exacerbated this problem...if the program says Go, people go...(like the nice Connecticut folks who followed navigation instructions down a ramp and into Lake Champlain several years ago). https://www.wfsb.com/news/ct-residen...20this%20month.
p.s. I believe the cops tried the app in question, and indeed it also led them to the Coast Guard ramp into the lake, but they were savvy enough to stop.

Geez! Where is everybody this morning? Did I wake up too early?
That I understand, but usually there is a full page already by the time I check in.
just getting warmed up...had to respond to a bunch of emails about our neighbors' killer dog, it's getting beyond ugly.
Now ready to take on the important issues of the day...
How hard does everyone work? Really...? Average hours of actual work work a week, not “at work”.
I’ve been very happy that I’ve not pursued paths (management consultant, doctor) of my close friends who legit work 60-80 hour weeks most weeks, sometimes more.
I’ve had weeks like that but they’re the exception.
Where is the DBR time in a schedule like that?!?!
You mentioned this previously. I'm quite divided. If a neighbor had a dog that I felt was a danger to me, my family, or my animals, I would stop at nothing to get rid of it.
Conversely, if ANYONE tried to tell me what to do with my dog, I'd be, well, disinclined to listen.
I would guess (and be about 99.5% sure of this) that, if you received complaints about your dog's aggressive behavior/running rampant through the neighborhood, you would step up the obedience training for your dog to get the bad behavior under control. Of course, you probably wouldn't have to receive any complaints - you would already be working on these issues, if they existed.
we've got clear rules and ordinances, he just doesn't follow them. I'm sharing my 20+ years of notes and warning letters from the town (to him) with the aggrieved party in this...we're too small of a town to have a police force, so the Selectboard (three members, unpaid) bumble along as best they can...not a crisp way to handle serious problems, I can assure you.
There are 10 other dogs on this small road (there were 11 until one got killed by the Akita) and not one EVER poses a problem.. Nitwit owner plus known aggressive breed equals bad situations..
Random post about nothing
How do you post a gif? To make it actually move and whatnot.

I've been wondering also. I think you can just insert the image using a link and make sure that retrieve remote file and reference locally is not checked.
Make sure to insert it from a URL. I used giphy for both of these.

I used to see Andre The Giant regularly in the Montreal subway...he had a way of sticking out...the term "giant" may be overused, but not in his case, he was absolutely enormous.

I heard a story on a sports talk radio about Andre needing to, well, have a bowel movement on a long airplane flight. Hilarious to hear, not so great to be a fellow passenger.

Reports of softball sized hail! Yikes
-jkQuote:
One hailstorm is bad enough, but a trio of hailstorms striking three metropolitan areas in one night is almost unheard of. Baseball- to softball-size hail pummeled parts of Texas and Oklahoma on Wednesday night, slamming places around Fort Worth, San Antonio and Oklahoma City, including Norman.
The damage will almost certainly exceed $1 billion. Hail has historically been the most costly severe weather hazard in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and Wednesday night’s storms illustrate why.

Now if I can just get the email addresses of all of the co-workers that you just got promoted over...!
Mom had to freeze them on the drive up from SC coast but they turned out good. Tossed in flour and spices, pan-fried in butter and oil. Had one on a bun with siracha mayo and one on its own. Good stuff and tis the season.
I posted this in the push-up thread but just in case you missed it: our very own ClemmonsDevil is taking a swing at 20,000 push-ups in 12 hours. Why? Because the rent is due!
It is very windy this morning.
More rain expected the next couple of days. I need to get out in my yard and rake up all the detritus that collected when it got hit by a couple inches of rain in less than an hour. All the loose twigs and thatch got collected and deposited in small mounds.
Watched the video. Couple of issues for me. First 10 to 20 were legit, but after that he stopped breaking the 90 degree plane. This is still an absolutely gargantuan and grueling undertaking. Also I can't fathom how he can use such a wide grip. I think my shoulders would actually pop off of my body. I pop out sets of 70-80 every 15 minutes up to 500 6 days a week. I assume not all of mine are picture perfect form either, but I go a little slower than him to try to keep my form tight(ish)
I just vacuumed and cleaned the downstairs bathroom for a visitor this afternoon, so I'm feeling rather special.
In a way, yes...I've got more than I need, and I'll let her take a bunch if she wants it...she's my number one barter partner, this is just another example of that...my own mulch work has again been suspended due to rain, and there's a rumor we may get an inch of snow tonight, jeopardizing tomorrow's mulching agenda.
I have a love/hate relationship with the pile, but once I get scooping and tossing, I'm all in...a couple more days should do it, with a fair amount left over for future plant acquisitions...rained pretty hard all day, don't feel bad about not mulching today.
And my, the rain makes the mulch and blooming plants and flowers look oh so nice.
The rain (and subsequent pooling of water in my yard) left quite a bit of mulch scattered about. I'm going to have to rake/shovel it when the rain stops.
Pool nearly empty. Rescued one dumb squirrel, still chasing a few frogs.
It’s always a little pond-y when first reopening but it got dirtier than normal this year since we’re cleaning it out and replacing the liner.
Loaded my daughter's stuff up at Alabama and spending the night in Birmingham before heading home.
I look forward to hearing (on this thread or by PM) how she enjoyed the year. Certainly not a tropical year.
DaughterPK helped with sorority rush at U of A this fall — the rules were very restrictive. I hope your daughter’s next 3 years are a more typical college experience!
Any idea what critter made this? I'm thinking coyote. A smaller one.
Attachment 13078Attachment 13079
I better call Mom and Dad and tell them the jabberwock got out again.
We've had a lot of coyotes around here, so they have probably had them around their house, too. They are building a new elementary school off Scott King, near Army Corps of Engineers land, so I think a lot of animals have been displaced. Been hearing even more owls than usual.
On a completely different note, I just had to pick margarita salt out of my keyboard. It was a long Friday.
Dang! High wind warning in my neck of the woods today; I didn't get through unscathed. Or I should say my house didn't. A branch speared my roof, punching a clean, 2" hole. Fortunately it's above an eave, so even if my quickie patch leaks, it won't leak into the house. It happened once before, 20 years ago when, when my roof was 10 feet lower.
(Feel free to substitute something else for "Dang". I certainly did.)

The baby and women folk are in bed. That's when executive time happens. Tonight that means cookies and milk and Predator. Lookin' good, Dutch. Lookin' good.
She had a very good year and made some good friends, one of whom she is moving into an apartment with next year. Hope Daughter PK made some friends and they all return to normal soon!
What genre is Predator? Action/Thriller/Science Fiction/Horror
Dug in like an Alabama tick. Classic.
Up at 4:30 to start the brisket.
Not bad now, but it will hit me right after lunch . . . .
