Bleech, beer!
Ready to cut the hair after 28 months.
What are the best hair donation organization? I hear Locks of Love isn't quite as charitable as people thought.
I did it. I feel sick. Do not like it.
Back to reality weatherwise tomorrow.
Where is everyone?
frolicking!
Did anyone post that Charlie Rose underwent heart valve replacement surgery yesterday?
Get better vibes for our Charlie!
Sitting in passenger seat. Driver is very erratic. May be last post on DBR.
So, he didn't make it. FWIW, I find pretty much anyone else's driving to be erratic and worrisome.
Oh and what's the story with weeze ad devildeac's signatures? Did more words/phrases get added to the prfanity filters?
Sunday, time to hit the grocery store...
The basement is now, finally, clean and straightened up.
I don't have a basement. :(
I've found that my posting goes up in those situations. Without the pressure of the Public Policy threads, we've slowed down quite a bit.
Ah well, it's only natural. When a thread becomes the all time champion, it's tempting to rest on laurels.
I spent time hiding on this thread when the other threads were all full of negativity. So, like three weeks ago.
Also - there is the pressure of current public policy which we aren't allowed to talk about but kind of all I'm thinking about. At least I got over my whatever it was illness before rehearsals started. The read through for The Real Inspector Hound was Tuesday night. We open March 18th.
Alas, no, it's a play for 2 men. In my defense, I wrote it as part of a festival where I was assigned 2 actors at random and I got 2 males. The play is getting its 5th production overall. I'm rather excited though because the play is set in Boston and I wasn't sure it would resonate outside of Boston (it takes place on the T).
Every time I manage to find a subcontractor who does what he says he will do, and does it on time, I feel like jumping into his arms and running away with him. I dream of the projects we could start AND finish together. The fantasy of a finished barn...it's a sparkly picture in a pink cloud...
I've tried to fire my subcontractor on many occasions. He just keeps coming back however. It is a nightmare, but he doesn't charge me anything. One of these days I'll wise up and hire someone who will get the work done.
PS Yes, I'm my own subcontractor.
Please...I'm sending my husband over to your house so I can get something done around here. His picture comes up when you search "Jack of All Trades, Master of Never Having the Correct Drill Bit"
Just allow him a couple of hours on your couch during the Duke games and I promise he'll do a simply awful job for you on your chore list.
Hmmm, one a day...
I've been extra promiscuous with my sporker today.
In my case a beer (or two) a day keeps those size 4 pants tucked away in the back of the closet...:(
A friend wth chickens brought over a dozen fresh eggs. My new favorite person. Yum!
So, a case or two of beer a day is a lot of liquid to intake...
Never been a coffee person(except as a concession to sig. others), one beer and I'm done.
Soda on the other hand...
I only drink rain water and grain alcohol. Purity of essence.
Just lost a dear family friend. Single (husband recently left) mother of two (8 year old girl, 7 year old boy) at age 36. Diagnosed with Leukemia on a Friday, died from complications (brain bleed, I believe) on Monday. So sudden. A true travesty.
Grief is hard. And it sucks.
More here
Sorry to hear about this - my condolences.
What a terribly sad situation. Also joining the above posters in hoping those babies have plenty of family to hold them close and keep them safe.
Sorry for your loss, grad_devil and my condolences to her family.
A good friend lost his niece on Friday. His sister's daughter and his goddaughter, she did nearly everything with he and his wife and two sons after her parents divorced.
She had multiple forms of cancer, osteosarcoma, leukemia and another which I have forgotten. She was 18.
If anyone wants to send some vibes toward Clemson around noon EST today, that would be great. Bre, a friend of Nephew Alex will be defending her dissertation today.
Congrats to Bre!
Just saw the movie Get Out.
Enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Highly recommend.
Had a wonderful treat this past weekend and got to meet a friend from the boards (and his family!).

Just terrific spending time with Devildeac!
Sausage Haus? Sounds like a heart heathy location. Must have been been suggested by...
I'm not one that believes in fate, but it was a really special afternoon.
I've written extensively (too much?) about my father and our shared passion for Duke basketball (and DBR); it was special then, on the 12th anniversary of his death, to spend some time meeting a father and son that care as deeply about Duke basketball as my father and I did, another friendship forged on this special site from this special community.
And yes, it was a sausage haus. Anytime any of you are in town, we'll go. :)
I was about to sit down and casually blow through some posts/threads here upon arriving home from work and the LTE was my first stop and this was the first post. I foresee significant difficulty in doing that after reading this post. I am deeply touched and very grateful we were able to finally meet and eat (well, gorge) for those couple hours on Saturday and sorry your wife could not join us. Next time. I also shared a story with Mike (that my wife and family have heard probably way too many times:o) about my elderly Dad, who like his father, was a huge Duke MBB fan, but knew nothing about DBR (taking the good with the not-so-good;)). I'll share that here sometime or over some Ymm, Beer material when another DBR friendship is cultivated again in the near and/or distant future. Give me a holler when you're in town later this month or next.
I'm going to be flying into RDU in July on my way to Duck. My nephew and his wife will be with me so a tour of the campus will be on the agenda. If anyone is available for a meal, that would be fun. Depending on flight times, we may spend the night in the area on the way to or from.
I'll swear I posted a reply to this earlier. Perhaps I never hit the submit reply box or DBR ate it or it got deleted. Thanks for posting this.
The pleasure was ours, Mike. Thanks for joining us and sorry your wife couldn't be there, too. Next time. And it was mere coincidence/photo-shopping/blind luck/trickery that the photo was taken in front of the oldest, best-est German all-you-can-eat "Autobahn" sausage buffet restaurant in all of middle America.:o
Very good day here. The missus got a job offer.
**beams**
And in other news, looks like I shut down another thread...
Hmmm, debating more replies.
There's always my old fav, what's for dinner?
But first, it's cold and there are about sixteen tons of sticks and tree limbs to drag to the burn pile. "I get allergic smelling hay!!! I just adore a penthouse view"
So, it went by without much fanfare, but we just passed the 10 year mark on this version of the boards a short while ago( 2-25-2007).
So, congrats DBR and thanks for providing these forums.
I only just realized as I tried to look up any commentary on the 2007 movie Into the Wild. I'll save that for other posts.
The sun rose this morning
Jinx! Was just discussing this very item with the husband. 20 year old Honda pushmower, metal housing-whatever (not plastic so therefore a veritable treasure, so I'm told) well the damned thing always leaked gas. So, being the chief weezie in charge, I took it to a repair shop and himself declared it was never the same. So, there it sits sinking into the detritus of the garage. All it needs is a new carburetor, says he. 20 years it hasn't moved. Told him it might make a sweet headstone one day.
Fascinating, no?
Yes, NOT.
I've been avoiding carbs lately. Big help in my weight loss.

^^^^ I'm taking a few warmup swings in the back yard. Pretty funny OPK!
"Down, down in the basement, we hear the sound of machines..."
But, to more serious matters, hey DinK, are you ok out there in Tornado-land? Saw some bad reports!
I'm fine but some of the damage wasn't too far away. I managed to leave work just in time - I could feel the temperature drop as I walked across the parking lot and it started to rain as I got in my car. The downpour started before I was able to drive 50 feet. Interesting evening.
Thanks for asking.
I am in the nicest, cleanest, quietest, calmest laundromat I have ever seen.
I'm all lost in a supermarket,
I can no longer shop happily.
I came in for a special offer:
Guaranteed personality.
One of my former coworkers was lost in the grocery store when we had to go pickup som things for a company function. He hadn't set foot in one for nearly 10 years.
Picked up two Boston butts today, gonna fire up the smoker to kick off the season. Waaaaaay stoked.
Hehehe, he said butts.
Insert story of washer/dryer being older than the person being spoken to here.
I was feeling super-hip at work the other day, pounding through some administrative tasks and listening to the Beastie Boys "Paul's Boutique." I then realized - that particular album is older than any of my employees that were working that day.
Then I went home, ate some prunes, and tried to set my VCR clock.
12:00 12:00 12:00 12:00
I believe OPK is closest. Someone doesn't know how to set the clock correctly.
Or am I just being too literal? And petty in another thread?
Everyone must be asleep...
Smoking two Boston butts, been up and down from the couch all night. Just got a new wireless Bluetooth thermometer system though which helps monitor from inside:

Big help on a cold night.
Happy Daylight Savings Time morning! I don't sleep that well after games, win or lose. But nice to lose an additional hour. :)
I'm so accustomed to planning my day around 4 games in 4 days, I don't know what to do today. (I've already watched all of the replays . . . one particular one several times.:D)
No snow here in South Central Tejas. It is a bone chilling 55F right now. Poor kids are on Spring Break while it is overcast and misty/rainy. Maybe they will all go see Lego Batman?
Since we're stuck inside today, I am considering making currant scones and then ricotta stuffed shells for dinner.
When you see white smoke, you know we have a new Pope!
Can't wait for tomorrow night's special MSNBC report on who shot J.R. Ewing.
It will probably be more interesting than the 60 Minutes piece on who was buried in Grant's Tomb.
"Geraldo Rivera: Return to Capone's Vault"
Tonight, exclusive, MSNBC.
On hold with the IRS.
Anyone else have issues with receiving tax refunds this year?
Is it possible to be too old for a PB&J?
Happy St. Patrick's Day! Glad out Bishop gave dispensation from Lenten fasting, etc.
Of course, as the Bishop of Savannah, I don't think he had much choice if he did not want a riot.
Yes, I'll have a bit of the creamy Guinness tonight.
Health reasons, of course. And it "Gives a Body Strength"
Make sure you pour it correctly:
https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/...draws-ire.html
I toured the Guinness brewery last summer. They take the proper pulling of a pint VERY seriously.
More on the seriousness of a well-pulled pint, ripped from the headlines:
(not posted for political purposes -- it was just Paul Ryan doing it wrong) --
http://www.ajc.com/news/washington-p...CaDTJWUcfCZxJ/
^^^ Yes, saw this but gee whiz, what might the reaction had been if he'd poured it onto the floor, scoffing at the lack of foam?
Can you supply irrefutable proof that Speaker Ryan actually pulled the tap? And, was it or was it not a nitrous-infused tap, which as we Irish all know (from the cradle) is the only acceptable kind of tap for Guinness? The people demand answers! I'm inclined to give the guy a break on this one.
And maybe a shot of Jameson's with which to commence the festivites.
My heritage is more Scottish than Irish, though some members of the family did relocate to Ireland. Of course, they were wanted for horse theft, so it wasn't entirely voluntary.
Is it safe to go outside now?
For anyone depending on my vast knowledge of college basketball, please keep in mind that yesterday I was a fantastic 3 - 5 in my bracket.
I once was pretty good in my predictions, and actually won some $$ pools. Am I getting stupid-er, or is there more parity these days?
(To be honest, I don't follow as many games/teams as I once did. I watch only Duke games, and games where someone is playing the cheaters and might have a chance at beating the low down scum.)
New plants planted, anyone know how to build a flagstone patio?
No, only how to call guys to put one in, a flagstone patio, that is. I've tried to float that as a reality tv show: me waiting for work guys to show up and then me standing around watching them and then me writing painful checks. Some yelling at my husband about the work guys tossed in for drama.
I'm convinced it's going to be a hit.
Should have done my herbs and tomatoes this weekend, hope we have weather next weekend to get things planted.
and so it begins.
A contractor friend once told me the key to a good flagstone patio is to grade and thoroughly tamp the ground, lay a finely crushed bluestone base, wet and thoroughly tamp that, then lay the flagstones. Set with more finely crushed bluestone between the flagstones and gently water that in; lather, rinse, repeat until it's all even.
And most importantly, make certain absolutely no water courses across it; your patio must be the local maxima or all is for nought. (Well, unless you pour a concrete base and set the flagstones above it in still more concrete. It's more durable but it's harder to repair. And uglier.)
We built a deck...
-jk
^^^ That's good OPK, I like the way you're "fleshing" this out. Kind of the Green Acres sidekick yapper type.
Isn't it fun when we all try to work through basketball disappointment together? Yeah, I know...sad...
I can provide the occasional witty comment and I mean very occasional. The beer, not so much. Like the current trend in college basketball, I'm one and done.
I'm afraid that if I am on the show, it will likely have to be on a non-broadcast network. Or else a lot of bleepings. It's a bad habit that's getting more pronounced as I get older, not less so.
So... what's anyone watching on TV that they like?
Deadliest Catch probably starting up again soon
Catching up on season 2 Man In The High Castle. WOW!
My TV is rarely on any more for anything other than sporting events.
Not sure to which I have a greater aversion -- pres-season threads speculating about minute distributions, or post-season threads speculating about who will leave early and who will return.
{sigh}
