Hey! I was Elton Brand! My first player name ever - very cool.
Now you are Carrawell, but no posting for awhile or you will be just a rodent again;-)
Why don't you just think of it as the Seinfeld thread? It's about nothing but maybe it will run for 9 years. This thread can also be the place for all those thoughts you'd like to express but doubt would get any real discussion going. We're here for you!
We've gotten at least 3 new posters in the past couple of days!
I never answered the bamboo versus metal knitting needle question did I? Mostly it's about the yarn, some work better with wooden needles. Metal is my default though, and if I'm going to knit with wooden needles, I actually prefer the rosewood ones, but I'm not such a snob that I won't use bamboo. Acrylic yarn? Yeah, I'm a snob about yarn, but not about needles.
Silk or cashmere? Actually, scratch that, I could never choose between the two.
Country - I live in the great forest of Fairfield County.
Pound cake, although fruit cake is better for throwing and storing in the fallout shelter.
with bacon? does it get any better?
http://www.slashfood.com/2007/12/19/...-yet-so-right/
will this never end?(not the thread, but my being stuck on 6th man forever!)
Fruit gum.
Cashmere.
I let *some* bygones be bygones. Kentucky is not an enemy anymore. Maryland, on the other hand, .
I'm kinda new here, but I really liked the thread about what would happen if the world stopped spinning.
Just checking in here...
Cats over dogs. Sick over automatic. The other stuff, I either didn't read closely enough or don't care.
So who else here is spending Xmas/New Year's out of town?
It must be unanimous. If it isn't, then put an asterisk by it and send it on over to Balco. But I'm really hoping it doesn't come to that. I'd like to think that everyone here has been on the up and up.Quote:

I don't quite know how to reply to this. I'm stumped. You stumped the Schwab. I concede defeat. You advance to the semifinal round. I go home with parting gifts.Quote:

cause some of you, I suspect, were not on earth yet.
Question:
Where were you in July, 1990? And what were you doing?
I'll start it. Fairfax County, Virginia. Married with a stepdaughter. Teaching.
Almost four years from being single again.
Spending the summer nights remodeling stores for a company called PetSmart in the Phoenix, AZ area. This was very early on in the pet warehouse era, PetSmart had been founded 4 years earlier in the Phoenix area.
This was between my freshman and sophmore years at Duke.
Summer 1990, the summer between Duke and law school for me.
.
Summer 1990: Graduate school, Duke chemistry department.
Summer 1990: Just finished with grammar school, so I was probably spending a lot of time at the pool or just hanging out, running in my wheel.
I had finished law school, gotten married, and moved up to Charlottesville with my hubby and 2 cats. It was a good move and a fun summer exploring the mountains. We got lost on the Shenandoah trail.
Summer 1990: I moved to Boston and started my career in health care. Oh, had been out of college for year.
Hijacking this thread for a marathon training and theater report.
Ran 10 miles this morning.
Took kids to a Harvard basketball game this afternoon. Sadly the Crimson lost in overtime to UC-Irvine. The point guard could not make his free throws down the stretch. Poor kid, he must have missed 5 of them, but it was frustrating to watch.
Held rehearsal for short play festival at my house. I'm not directing the one I wrote, I'm directing one titled Four Extremely Attractive Women Sitting Around Fantasizing About Rich Orloff By Rich Orloff. It's a hoot.
Now I can either bump this thread or collapse in a heap.
Summer 1990, living in Cambridge, working for Harvard, not married yet.
(Play piano but love to listen to violin.)
Things have been slowing down here...we need some leadership!
(And yes, this is my 73rd post in this thread)
Honda or Toyota?
Ford truck or Chevy truck?
Hyundai or Kia?
Mercedes or BMW?
vanilla or chocolate?
Mazda
whichever DOESN'T have the annoying John Mellencamp song in their commercials
Kia cause I do like that commercial with the couple at the cafe table
BMW cause my neighbor has a BMW convertible and I've never been into cars very much but man, I covet that one
vanilla
What's the one food you hate that everybody else likes (and thinks you're crazy since you don't like it)? For me, it's chocolate ice cream, can't stand it.
Viagra or Cialis? (You don't really have to answer that one.)
Boxers or briefs? (You don't have to answer that one either.)
1)Toyota - they made better engines at least when I owned one
2)Chevy - Like a Rock, BD could that be the song you are referring to? I don't recall Mellencamp song's but then if it was a Ford commerical so I was ignoring it anyway.(I used to work for part of GM)
3) Huh? How about neither. They have both vastly improved their product quality and lineups.
4)Again, neither. I go with Audi, which I own.
5)Chocolate
6)Beets? Haha, no clue...
7)Whichever is handy...okay, never had the need for either
8) Boxer-briefs, because I have never been able to make up my mind
One place you would like to spend New Year's that you haven't been to yet...
Own a Honda, Volkswagen, Lexus, and BMW. Too many cars.
Like both chocolate and vanilla, usually go with a vanilla ice cream with stuff in it, like cherry vanilla with almonds.
Haven't tried either Viagra or cialis yet.
Usually cotton boxer briefs during the day and boxers at night. For running I like under armor.
Nissan (but would gladly go with a Honda Civic hybrid)
Truck? NO!
Neither Hyundai nor Kia
BMW (appears in a Bond flick)
Madagascar vanilla, chocolate, & coffee
Food I hate: sushi, chicken 'n' dumplin's, tuna
Viagra or Cialis? Whichever one is least represented in my SPAM folder
Boxers or briefs? I am not running for President.
Best Rock/Pop Cowbell: Blue Oyster Cult "(Don't Fear) The Reaper", War's "Low Rider", or the Stones' "Honky Tonk Woman"?
Cheers,
Lavabe
Happy New Year everybody. Hope there aren't too many hangovers out there.
Hmmm, "Low Rider"
Had both Hondas and Toyotas...like them both.
Toyota Tundra. My wife has had several american cars and trucks, and had nothing but trouble with them. So, she's convinced me to stay away.
Hyundai maybe?
BMW. I own a '97 Z3 that I bought new a month after I graduated duke. It's british racing green with a tan top, and I love it. I call it my first child. My kids aren't too jealous though, cause they covet it! :^)
Vanilla.
just to bump the thread a little more, I'll second the Happy New Year wish as a separate post!
Happy new year folks!
Happy New Year, too
More cowbell, but in terms of cowbell in a song, I'll go with Honky Tonk Woman. Besides, that'll make it one apiece for the three songs.
New Year's Cheers,
Lavabe
Happy New Year!
Bowl games are okay, but I'm really in BB withdrawal. Can't wait for January 6, and I will be there!!
I always thought a cowbell in Van Halen's "Jump" would sound nice.
I have a cow bell.
And a drum stick.
I do not have a Van Halen CD though, hence, cannot test out my theory.
There was a lot of cowbellification going on in the FSU/Kentucky game yesterday.
Do Hindus consider the cowbell sort of like a church bell?
I'm eating beans.
-EarlJam
Nissan - loved my 1992 Maxima SE! 2000 Altima is my daily driver.
Chevy - a new Silverado sits in our driveway (and a rusty old Blazer is on the curb)
Whichever isn't doing the 'duh' commercials - how rude.
BMW - 5-series in the garage (usually on blocks, unfortunately.) (We have too many vehicles in our household - a Honda VFR moto is not getting ridden much this winter.)
Chocolate - why even ask?
Chocolate - why even ask?[/QUOTE]
Because even as a chocoholic(think Breyer's chocolate/chocolate chip with brownies/fudge ice cream with extra chips and chocolate or fudge sauce!), I will still enjoy a large bowl of the original Breyer's Vanilla Bean ice cream without toppings every once in a while and find it simply and absolutely delicious:D .
I love football but, does anyone get a little tired of these bowl games that mean (in my mind anyway) nothing really (just money in pocket of advertisers, etc.)? Even the pro games (especially when your team is bad) seem superfluous this year. New England seems to be light years ahead of everyone else and a sure bet to win it all...I kinda have lost interest...I dunno, basketball is still "alive" for me right now; but futball seems rather boring. Am I feeling the New Year blues???.......:).
I need a Duke game!!!!!
Omg, I haven't laughed so hard in quite awhile.
I'm watching "Superbad," and while I can't recommend it along the lines of any measures of movie quality, but darn, it's hilarious. And, well, the dialog writing is pretty stellar, and the actors are hard not to like, so I guess that counts for something.
If you haven't seen it, and like sophomoric humor (like "clerks" but smarter), go get the DVD!
Does anyone else wish MLK had been born in August?
I've got no problems celebrating his birthday in theory, but c'mon, the last thing I need right now is another day at home with my kids in the freezing cold and snow.
Having recently moved north from the NC, well I am beginning to think the solution to your potential problem is to head on down south. I am actually happy to celebrate Dr. King's birthday in January. The last company I was at didn't recognize his birthday as a regular holiday so I was always using my vacation time to take the day off. Seems a rather pitiful complaint and companies are spotty on these types of issues, my current employer celebrates Columbus Day but not Veteran's Day.(I am technically a veteran.)
Sigh. If only . . . I'm an NC native. When I was in elementary school, we didn't get Columbus Day off from school or Veteran's Day either. In my experience Massachusetts has way too many school holidays and the kids go until the last week of June which is useless time in my book. A day in September is not equal to a day in June in terms of learning something.
The Boston part of my post name is in honor of the Boston Red Sox, my other love, not necessarily the city itself. Although I've been here long enough it occasionally feels like home. And I've rooted for the Pats since they were really, really bad.
Hey Folks, don't lose too much steam, remember someone will eventually win a cashmere scarf (or silk or merino wool or a blend of all three).
Sugar Hill Gang or GrandMaster Flash?
Is is funny or sad or perhaps even ironic that I almost never post on the main board anymore? Sometimes the main board scares me and I venture over there at my own risk.
Everybody loves Krispy Kreme doughnuts, but I don't see what the big deal is. Come to think of it, doughnuts in general usually leave me feeling underwhelmed, the occasional chocolate one notwithstanding.
Everyone should go see "Charlie Wilson's War." I was most definitely not underwhelmed by that one.
Does anyone ever think about being "whelmed"? I certainly do. For instance, I would say I was whelmed by by recent visit to Rupp Arena. It wasn't absolutely spectacular, but not terrible either; pretty much an expectedly enjoyable experience--whelming.
Canadians don't. They were a novelty when they first arrived up here so everyone tried them but that was it - they didn't even make a dent in our Tim Horton's addiction. KK is rarely heard about up here any more. Then again, the coffee at KK sucks so they had no chance as people here are ridiculously addicted to the coffee at Timmy's and we buy our doughnuts where/when we buy our coffee.
Breyers. Almost any flavor. I loved butter pecan when I was younger. Now, vanilla. As an aside, does anyone actually look at the ingredients? Breyers uses no eggs and uses real sugar, not corn syrup like the others. Breyers, hands down. Festus Hagan Das uses eggs. Why does ice cream even need eggs! Someone tell me! I'm a SMOKIN'. Oh yeah.
Finally hit the 1k level. Actually, the main board is kind of fun to make interesting comments at and then let other pontificates. PPB also...
Has anyone else ever tried Yarnell's Homemade Vanilla ice cream? It beats Breyer's all to heck. It's made in Searcy, AR, so it may have a limited regional market.
Typical Comments:
Main- "Cherokee made 6 points in the second half of that game as I recall."
"The RPI and BCS are related somehow and I intend to analyze them
when I have time."
"I have done a repeated measures test on all the scores of Duke
players who sat in on Simpson's class and have tabled the significant
differences below." Comments are welcome.
PP- "The issue is not the length of the primary; it's the quality of
spokesmen who feel that Obama and Hillary are related somehow to
an undercurrent of distrust of the public."
"Huckabee and Bush once shared a condo in Madrid that could make a
difference in the outcome of the primary in New Hampshire." At
least, that's my opinion." Comments?
Finally..
Off topic-- "Anyone like peanuts and chocolate together?"
"Where can I buy a new garden rake?"
"Anyone going to drink large quantities of beer tonight?"
"How large was B.F. Skinner's head?"
"I just saw Bambi again and it is as great as it was the first
time."
"I received some moleskin leggings for Christmas and I was curious
about whether I should wash them in cold or warm water?"
"Help! What is the button on the very top of cameras?"
Random Thoughts...
What was spray painted on the dumpster by the Aycock dorm(actually between Aycock and what served as the DUMA I think at the time) in the fall of 1989?
Think hard!
If you guessed:
Better Bundy than us
you get 5 gold stars.
Apparently, someone supported capital punishment.
Anyone got a picture of a Dink?
If you mean a D.I.N.K., I'd post a pic of me and my husband. But then, you'd be able to pick us out of a lineup, so maybe not. ;)
My favorites, in no particular order:
What's Opera, Doc
Duck, Rabbit, Duck (and the rest of the Elmer vs. Daffy & Bugs hunting trilogy)
Bully for Bugs
The Abominable Snow Bunny
Hillbilly Hare
That's what is loads of fun about Bugs Bunny cartoons. Literary and pop culture references abound. They're really quite clever.
Today I purchased the newest Looney Tunes Collection specifically because it contains this cartoon. After watching it again, I think it moves up on my list.
I also like "Ali Baba Bunny." Hassan cracks me up. "Open sasparilla, ... open Saskatchewan, ... open septagenarian, ... open saddlesoap ..."
A Looney Tunes discussion...oh boy! I received Vols. 3-5 of the Golden Collection from Santa Mom this year (to go with Vols. 1 & 2, which I received a couple of years ago). I haven't gotten through much of them yet, so I have few comments, but I'll pass them along in the coming days.
As for favorites, I too love "Duck, Rabbit, Duck." Anything with Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck will undoubtedly make me laugh.
I could also watch any Wile E. Coyote vs. the Roadrunner short anytime.
Looks like I now have some ideas of what to get for birthday presents now that HD DVD is likely to lose out to Blu-ray. No, I won't be changing formats, I will wait until everything is downloadable before buying movies, etc. on a physical format again.
I do not know what the differences are among BluRay, HD DVD, and DVD. :o Would you please clarify for this Luddite? What is the downloadable , physical format you're talking about?
Three Bugs Moments:
One, two, three strikes, you're out. One, two, three strikes, you're out. One, two, three strikes, you're out. [all on one ball]
The Rabbit of Seville.

I will do my best to explain. With the advent of better TV's so that they can show much better pictures(High Definition), the makers of digital media realized they could offer a much better viewing experience by moving to these higher definitions. There are several "levels" of high definition, 1080p, 1080i, 720p, etc. This gets into a longer conversation, so I will summarize by saying higher numbers are better and p is better than i.
Your regular TV made 5-6 years ago and what TV is broadcast in now (generally) uses 480p. Your current DVD player uses this 480p format also.
Two camps emerged to provide a high definition(1080p) media format, Blu-ray and HD DVD. Both had their corporate backers, HD DVD by Toshiba, Microsoft, and Intel; Blu-ray by Sony, Panasonic and others. To keep this short, most of the differences were very technical and don't make much of a difference to the average home video viewer. The end result was that you had HD DVD vs. Blu-ray and various movie studios supporting one format or the other, with some supporting both. Warner Brothers, which initially supported both, decided this week to only support Blu-ray from June of this year onward. This means that approximately 70% of the potential content is going with Blu-ray, while 30% are committed to HD DVD.
Blu-ray had several advantages, in particular larger storage capacity. HD DVD also had some advantages which it didn't exploit well enough, in particular:
1) Lower hardware costs since it was based in many ways on the current DVD
2) Ability to create a combo disc(HD on one side, regular DVD on the other) That way you could keep your old equipment and be able to watch that movie you rented or bought in your living HD system or in your bedroom on your older TV and DVD player.
3) Universal Pictures(oh wait, not an advantage per se, but I am a home teamer)
So, in a nutshell, Blu-ray looks like it will become the standard and you probably won't need to worry about this for 2-3 years when everything will be coming out in a high definition format.
(There is much more to this story such as all the corporate infighting about whose standard would be used for Digital Rights Management, CODECs, yada, yada, yada)
One clarification: most standard def TV is still broadcast in 480i. DVDs are 480p.
To Ymo's earlier point about physical vs. downloadable content, it's commonly believed that this HD DVD vs. Bluray generation is the last time we'll need to buy physical media and physical players. There are already a number of services that let you purchase HD video files in the same way you would buy songs and low definition video content from iTunes.
Given the convenience and portability of downloads, I think this change will happen sooner rather than later. Consumer confusion over HD DVD and Bluray has opened the door even wider for a non-physical solution to take over. I will be very surprised if either HD DVD or Bluray are ever adopted as broadly as DVDs were.
Thanks for the clarification...
Based on what is going on now personally, I agree with you wholeheartedly. The only thing I think that may slowdown adoption are(if I believe what I am told by the media)relatively slow broadband connections in many cases. Not all of us can get FiOs yet!:)
Yeah, I totally agree with your forecast, BB -- we're not choosing either technology here, figuring it'll be obsolete in another 12-18 months. (Tho I suppose if either of us were hardcore gamers and wanted a PS3, we'd also check out a blu-ray disc or two.)
Kind of a shame for Sony -- they finally win a format war, but it's for a shrinking island of technology that again, no one will remember in 5 years.
Amen, brother. I was *really* peeved to learn if I lived on the other side of the street behind our house, we could get FiOS, but as of now, Verizon has no plans to extend across the street into our 'hood. Argh! (Not that we have any complaints about our cable service beyond 'it's not FiOS' -- it's been Comcastic.)
Yes, I agree with your take away :)
Anyone else fidgety? I've been waiting all day for 5:30...not to mention all the time off between games.
patriots are going to stomp the jags next week.
I'm worried about this game. Garrard doesn't make a lot of mistakes, and the dual headed running attack is hard to stop. I haven't had a lot of faith in the Pats' defense this year.
I think the Pats need some help from the weather. Unfortunately, it's pretty warm right now, but hopefully it freezes over this weekend.
Utz salt and pepper chips are my big weakness.
And their BBQ, and their salt and vinegar, ...
I don't know Jax.
Is it available in Boston?
I miss Cheerwine and the only true ginger ale - Vernor's. I know Vernor's is a midwest company but you can get it in NC. Vernor's came up with a drink called a Boston cooler, Vernor's and vanilla ice cream. You can't get a real Boston cooler in Boston. Sigh.
I have a couple of UTZ T-Shirts. My favorite is a grey shirt with Duke Blue letters that reads, "Property of UTZ" (XXL).
I love that T-shirt...and if it were salted and flavored I would eat it. Why would I eat my shirt? Because it is an UTZ shirt...and there is no better brand in its category than UTZ.
I love UTZ.
To learn more about UTZ branded potato chips, please visit our, um, er, their Web site at: http://www.utzsnacks.com/
-EarlJam, consumer of UTZ brand quality potato chips.
P.S. UTZ Rules!
Posting again because this will put us over 500, if nobody beats me to it. The countdown to the scarf has begun.
Once that winner is announced if anyone can tell me why I picked the number that I picked, they win a scarf too, guaranteed delivery before 2010.
Scarf is a funny name, but if UTZ came out with "scarf-flavored potato chips," then I would eat them in force, because no doubt they would taste delicious, not because scarfs (sp?) taste good, rather, because UTZ created the chip.
Do we really get a free scarf?
-EarlJam
Yes.Quote:

I picked a number greater than 500 awhile ago. The poster who gets that number post wins a handknit scarf, knit by me, in the color family, style, and yarn content of their choice. (Within reason, I'll give you some suggestions.) I think that makes me a postpimp.
that
is so
cool! ;)
Did I win?
Maybe I said it wrong, it's a number OVER 500 but I'm not telling which one. And there is a second prize given to the person who figures out why I chose the number I chose. OK? If people are still confused, let me know, and I'll try again. And don't worry, I have no intention of winning my own scarf. And no one has won yet.
Carry on.
I have already given the clue that it's over 500.
I will give one more. I did pick a number that I thought was reasonable to achieve. Interpret that however you want to.
OK, here's a third. Since I promise not to win it myself, if you haven't heard from me in awhile, we might be getting close.
Oh and maybe, just maybe, you want to wait and see what the winning number is before you make a guess as to why.
No daughters, 4 sons, two born in May, but that's not it. (5/1 and 5/13)
Nobody has won it yet although I do think EarlJam wants a scarf. Can you wear them in Atlanta? Do you ski?
Am I hot, warm, or frigid on the "why that number" guess? Can we get a clue regarding that?
Oh. Just read your latest post so nevermind. Yes, you can wear a scarf in Atlanta but not around your neck. Not even sure what that means, but as for skiing, no, I don't ski. I tried water skiing once and nearly killed myself. I'm somewhat tall so leverage is a problem for me when I ski, skateboard, or practice multi-directional gyroramnomics.

Wait until somebody wins and if you're floundering, I'll help.
Scarves are way cool. I wish I could knit; I've tried several times to learn but I keep dropping stitches and wind up with something that resembles wooly swiss cheese.
Now come on EJam... you give us Michael Bolton, then you put a blood stain on his forehead, then you go to the UTZ girl.
I wanted to see what you would do to Michael Bolton.
I KNOW ... put a scarf on him.
Cheers,
Lavabe
^^^
LOL, put a scarf on him, he's done!
Any chance we can go back to the UTZ girl?
to the show that never ends . . .
Irrelevant, I just like those lyrics. And maybe this will be the never ending thread.
I dropped off the net for a few days, moving my daughter into an apartment for the spring semester. As a reward I got to go to the Cornell game! I like being a dad.
Very glad to see the scarfing in this thread. That almost sounds like a pun?
I just reread that and wanted to clarify that I meant *Michael Bolton* was done, not EarlJam. :o
Hi DevilAlumna! I tried crochet too but failed at that as well. I'm just not a crafty person. Well, I can make paper stars but that's about it.
We couldn't do our half of the family football tournament on Thanksgiving since we didn't know how to make the paper footballl. On a brighter note, the family croquet game did occur on Christmas Day - we just didn't know if knocking snow off the ball was allowed prior to striking it with the mallet. (An ruling not covered on any websites we found.)
BEES!
BEES!
OH MY GOD!!! THE BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!
Just moving to the top.

Being of partial Japanese descent, there was great disappointment in the household when I failed my origami exam...
Did I win yet?
You know, I'm kind of rooting for billybreen or Ymo to win the scarf because then I could hand deliver it, plus I know they can use a nice wool or wool/cashmere blend scarf around here. And it will look so much better on them than on Michael Bolton. But I'm not going to rig it, I promise.
No winner yet.
By Friday I think. I was enjoying this little heat wave.
Bring me the scarf of love. Bring it to EarlJam.
EarlJam love scarf.
Scarf love EarlJam.
Together, under the pale winter moon, we make warm, passionate love.
Me, EarlJam, and the scarf.
Come to me scarf, my lover.

Hey BD,
As if you didn't have enough online distractions (as well as offline), but I hear that this site: http://www.ravelry.com/ is really addicting.
A friend told me it's for knitting (and crochet) folks to share their projects, drool over 'dream yarns,' etc.
Was it really 60 in Boston today? The last time I was in Boston in January (1992, iirc), it was below 0 most of the time I was there.
Throaty wins my POTD vote, for being the first person I've seen to use the word 'faboo' in a post.
Throaty speaks like a poet, but he fights like one, too.
Yes... but he is courageous.
Throaty once challenged Patrick Davidson to a fight. Throaty even showed up... granted, he was drunk off of Pepsi 152 in order to numb the pain, but he showed.
Patrick was unable to make it, however, because he was busy fathering the 2021 National Championship Duke University Mens and Womens Basketball teams that night.
Oddly enough... there will be no siblings or twins on those teams. And they will each have 12 scholarship players and a walk on.
We hear from throatybeard! And a moderator!
Do not try to resist the longest thread.
I think we should have a showdown between those who mostly post on the main board and those who mostly cruise off-topic land. I would be willing to bet that there's a rather distinct breakdown.
Perhaps we could start posting trash-talking messages on the main board about how much cooler off-topic is. Then we wouldn't be dorks at all.
Do not taunt the longest thread ever. It will cloud your mind and haunt your dreams.
Do not taunt happy fun ball.
We are in 3rd place with this thread, very close to 2nd, but longest thread ever on these boards is still a ways away. Of course, the longest thread ever is about football, isn't there something wrong with that?
Taunting the thread, 15 yards, first down.
What's the record for the longest thread of yarn? And how long is the yarn in the scarf Bostondevil is making for me? :D
Posting to up the post count and help someone win a scarf.
Confucius say "Winning with meaningless post is meaningless victory".
600 or bust. We can get there today. Let's do this thing, America.
January 10: the day of the scarf. I can feel it.
Ok, new game. Google Images search, find a scarf, and tell us about it.
Hey, here's one:
The Weenie Link Scarf!
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...eLinkScarf.jpg
Dad got me a cashmere scarf for Christmas a couple of years back. I love it. I also have a couple of others in my regular rotation (except on these flippin' 65-degree January days). The scarf, at least among folks my age, is rather distinctive, yet quite stylish. I frequently hear comments like "you look like a history professor" when wearing one, which of course is pretty much exactly what I'm going for.
The scarf: an excellent item.
I win.
To return to an earlier topic, "Roman Legion Hare" is an outstanding Looney Tunes short.
I'm tempted, so tempted, to change the winning number to honor this post, but I can't. I have to stick to my original number. Darn my ethics. (Not really.)
And remember there are 2 scarves available. One for the post and one for the person who figures out why I chose the number I chose. Two scarves. Unless the person who wins the first scarf also gets the reason correct. I'm only knitting one scarf then. So, whoever wins the posting scarf, just don't make a guess as to why. Or send your winning idea to MulletMan.
Ok - the puppy scarf is definitely cute and I understand that small dogs may have a hard time maintaining body temp on very cold day. But why do people dress their animals in sweaters?
My beagle wears a sweater now. Never thought that I would see that day. But she's old and has cushings disease and the meds are causing her coat to shed. And we live in a cold winter climate when global warming is not happening. So she wears a sweater. And she really likes it. I've gotten used to it, too.
In addition to knitting scarves, I've also gotten into dyeing silk scarves. It comes in pretty handy when I'm putting an outfit together and need a scarf of a certain color but don't have one.
Last April I needed a burnt orange (which is not a good color for me) scarf to mark the day of mourning/remembrance for the VT shooting victims. Within 10-20 minutes I had a silk scarf the color I needed to complete my outfit.
Knitting is still my favorite way to go, but I also really like dyeing silk scarves.
Here he is, resenting it.

That was in a Boston winter a few years back after a haircut. We have him super poofy now, so he doesn't need the sweater. Here he is this year, eating an icicle he found in the yard. He loves ice.

Definitely an angry dog in the sweater.
Years ago, my sister bought red boots for our dog, Charlie Brown, for Christmas. Our mother told her she was nuts if she thought the boots would be put on the dog everytime he went out in wet weather. We ended up only putting the boots on when we wanted to make him walk funny - he would lift his legs really high to try to rub the boots off against his body. Definitely a mean streak in all of us when we were kids. (It was along the lines of putting tape on a cat's paws - or so I have heard.) :D
"a sound mind and healthy body bring many happy events to your family"
now i just have to work on the sound mind and the healthy body part
Moving thread BTTT.
I'm dying to know what the number is and who wins a scarf. If I were a cat, I'd be dead (curiosity killed the cat).
If we guess the number before we reach the winning post, do we win a prize?
(padding the count here)
I'm pretty sure it's 586. BostonDevil is all about the Pentiums.
Care to see a 17,826 word palindrome? I didn't think so, but there it is anyway.
Okay, animal pics it is...

I saw a Looney Tunes boxed set at the local Costco. I think it was the first 5 volumes for around $149. Does it seem a reasonable price?
Did someone graduate in May of '89? Danny Ferry?

Ugh, I was only two off! So sad.
Oh, and no need to post pet pics -- I do it quite frequently, on a per-post basis, actually. ;)
Pet pics that, IMHO, rival all pet pics. Think I'm biased?
Katie is 15yo. She was born in Vermont. Her favorite food comes in the can and her best trait is time keeping. She tells me when it's time to feed her and when it's time to make the bed she lets me sleep in. Isn't that sweet of her, she let's me sleep in her bed.
Spencer is 8yo. He was born here in Raleigh about 20 feet from my back door. Spencer is a feral cat who has become domesticated. I rescued him when he was about 2 months old off my back porch along with his two brothers. Spencer's favorite activities include cuddling with me and playing with q-tips. He will open the drawer where they are kept and take a bunch out to play with.
So do I, but there's always room for more. Speaking of which, here's the dude sleeping on my lap on the drive back to Boston from Charleston.
