Yes! Open Pandora’s Box!
Seriously though? I mean, sure, why not?

I declared it would be my decision when to open the thread and absolutely no one contradicted my power grab at the time therefore it is still my decision to make. ;)
It is still too early. I say summer. August preferably but I could possibly be talked into July.
The Florida legislature ends May 5, so I am imagining a major candidate announcement soon thereafter.
First Republican debate is set for some time in August, in Wisconsin.
And the friggin’ Tiger King is running! I told MrsPK this wonderful news at the breakfast table. Her response was to start googling realtors in New Zealand and Australia to meet with on our upcoming trips. (Seriously).
My $1 didn't win the Texas Lotto last night. So, my "waaah, waaah, why do I have to work for a living?" screed takes on additional meaning this morning.
Sports Christmas starts today!
Doing a Neonatal panel discussion this morning with some Neonatologists from all over the world. I was introduced as "One of the world's foremost experts on high frequency ventilation". My poor kids will have to hear that a LOT moving forward.
Two monitors. Locked office. Let's go!
Oh absolutely not. I basically discussed ventilation of nano-preemies below 600 grams or so occurring between 4 and 15 HZ using an audio speaker in one device and the Bernoulli principle in another. Sound wave displacement in exceptionally small babies causes volume displacement in one of the devices. In the other device, lower flows can be used to ostensibly evacuate gas that is trapped due to lung damage at the distal airway and alveolar level. Pretty contentious panel discussion! I loved it. I had one of the neonatologists say that there weren't enough RCTs to back up some of what I was saying. Partially true. But I did tell him that I do have a deep understanding of ventilation theory, flow dynamics, anatomy & physiology and math related to ventilation, so I live in the domains I have available in the absence of RCTs. Math is still math. Also I like him very much.
Also this makes me sound smarter than I am. All of this is information which was taught to me by some very accomplished researchers and I'm just kind of good at sharing the information.
sobering morning...went to snow rake the roof of the elderly neighbor whom I've helped for years, but with the depth and weight of the snow, and her confined surroundings, I'm going to have to retire from that before I kill myself.
Then I go to the market where a woman in the checkout lane next to me is inquiring about how to get to a certain town (my town). I asked her where she lived, she said my town. Became quite apparent that while she was only 3 miles from her home, she had forgotten how to get there...so I told her to come outside, follow me to my car, then follow me to her street...but before we got rolling she asked if we could backtrack to a gnarly intersection to buy cigarettes. "Is that OK?" No, not Ok, let's get you home. Got her 90% of the way there but then she veered into a corner market (which I think she knows) because she required ciggies...tough situation.
It's been a nicely productive day so far.
...which is a good thing, since [fill in the blank]
*puts on animation nerd hat*
An American Tail was the first product of the collaboration between Steven Spielberg and animator Don Bluth. Bluth, who cut his animator teeth under the tutelage of the mouse (THAT mouse, not Fievel Mousekewitz), left Disney Studios in 1981 due to "creative differences," as well as a desire for more direct artist control over their creations.
Bluth went on to make a number of '80s/early '90s creations that are commonly mistaken as Disney productions: The Secret of NIMH was his first major production at the helm of his eponymous breakaway studio, followed by An American Tail and The Land Before Time alongside Spielberg, and then All Dogs Go To Heaven, Anastasia, and a handful of rather less esteemed productions (we won't talk about Rock-a-Doodle) after the split resulting from Spielberg's founding of his own Amblimation Studios.
There's a unc fan colleague in my room right now while I grade homework and listen to basketball. She asked me when Duke plays, and I calmly answered her question before thinking better of my devilish desire to ask when carolina plays.
I should get a medal or something for that, right?
Well, the tournament has officially started. Yikes.
Spoiler Alert if you haven't checked the early game scores.
Now that Maryland is in the Big Ten, UVA has inherited the title of "ACC School Least Likely to Live Up to Tourney Seeding". They lose in the first or second round all the time - always a risky pick. (I didn't enter a pool this year but I did tell someone who asked for my advice to go with Furman as a 1st round upset.)
My picks suck already.
Today's pic. Backyard Gardener thread reminded me of this. Yum!

Those are beautiful strawberries.
I'm nervous.
This is going well. Has been the entire game. The in-game thread makes me nervous so I'm going to post my optimism here.
The rumors were true...
I conceded the push ups; I’m only at 275 or so a couple times a week. But what I did witness, though he probably thought he could get away with it, he went in for the dunk! Even after what his father said. I had to head to the WC, when I came back, there he was. Sure it was a gray rectangular 3 ft tall trash can unguarded and his ball was a balled up napkin, but with no defense in sight, he rose up and slammed it home. So, maybe he did learn?
Sheesh. One day in the books.
I can't remember how I survive this weekend each year.
So close…
yet so far away.

Best two days of the year, and this year is one of the best in recent memory.

In the 30s, WTF.
I've survived the first half of the opening rounds. Time to hydrate and get ready for the back stretch.
watching the unforecasted two feet of snow we got melt, still have a ways to go. Mud season. Ugly. Stay away (unless you want some nice Spring skiing)...
My anti-turkey stance spilling over into the basketball side is absolutely glorious. I chuckle every single time. And the people over there who never visit the lte, which is most of them, have no idea what any of this means. Which makes it way funnier.
I wasn't a big fan growing up, but have come to appreciate them as I get older and She's Gone has become somewhat of an anthem for me lately. The crescendo just after the 4:00 mark gets me every time.

Doing my taxes like a chump. Fed, State and Township. Blech.
I hear ya.
I long for the old days when you only did your taxes every four years. Money came in, stayed for a while. You got to spend time together and almost seemed like family.
Now it's boom, every year, money in and then gone in taxes. Never really unpacked its bags.
Or am I mis-remembering?
Whenever I hear someone on the basketball side mention luck, jinxes, harbingers or omens I react strongly. That junk drives me nuts. And I don't need any help being nuts.
I never watch the first period of any Bruins playoff game. (NHL)
Y'all aren't superstitious, but you're a little stitious.
Very superstitious,
Writing's on the wall.
Very superstitious,
Ladders bout' to fall.
Thirteen month old baby,
Broke the lookin' glass;
Seven years of bad luck,
The good things in your past.
When you believe in things
That you don't understand,
Then you suffer . . .
Superstition ain't the way.
Tough tough game.
Hiw in the hell UT got 2 team fouls?!?!
Not happening...
Superstitious? I got stung by a wasp on my way in from my car trying to catch the end of the game. Normally, I go in through the garage but the remote function was turned off(but it let me close the garage door using the remote when I left) and I had to use the front door. I went back out a couple minutes later and there were no other wasps out there. So, I got stung by a lone wasp who just happened to be hanging out on my front porch on a route I take maybe once a year. There was just bad mojo going on.
*Vandy did win with seconds left, but I had to listen on satellite radio.
I have a thought about it all, but it's too soon. I'll post it in a week or so.
23 and snowing with a pleasant breeze, Holly The Wonder Dog was in her element.
Late to the party on this analogy, but the game reminded me of the 2006 tourney game against LSU when they beat the hell out of JJ. I've been lamenting for years the state of college bball. It's just too physical and with the # of refs across the country, too inconsistent. The NBA product is sooooo much better to watch, even though I prefer the idea of college bball so much more because of the team concept and, frankly, because the players aren't as good so they miss more shots. Unfortunately, the NCAA has bigger problems and doesn't have the leadership to address this.
I guess the "In Coach K we trust" era is over?

Happy Birthday, Ymo!
From what's I've been reading, it was an interesting set of circumstances that led to their demise. Some included idiotic communications from the brass, but others were not self inflicted...very different clientele from most banks, and that proved to be disastrous
Happy birthday Ymo!
What do you call a dog that can do magic?
A Labracadabrador.

Fella I know was hospitalized for a peekaboo accident.
They put him in the ICU.
Good morning?
How quickly can you get back to sleep after each one?
My mom thought good sleep skills helped her immensely when she had nights on call. Especially not lying awake, dreading the next call.
(It certainly helped me when we had small kids around the house.)

New species of ‘giant’ spider discovered hiding underground in Australia, experts say https://www.miamiherald.com/news/nat...273412725.html
The researchers named the spider Euoplos dignitas, a name meaning “dignity or greatness” that’s intended to reflect the “impressive size and nature of the spider,” museum officials said.
Like I needed another reason not to visit Australia.
I will not be clicking on that link.
It is probably time to remind the denizens of the LTE that there is one and only one absolute DO NOT for the LTE regarding posts. There are to be no pictures of spiders posted in the LTE. You can go back to near the beginning to see the discussion. I can't find the post for you because there were some pictures of spiders posted early on. Links to pictures of spiders are allowed as long as they are clearly labeled as such and do not require anyone reading the LTE to actually go look at the pictures.
This is not a joke. We do not post pictures of spiders in the LTE.
Bostondevil has an extreme version of arachnophobia and cannot even look at pictures of spiders. When the pictures were posted the first time around, I had to get one of my sons to come into my office to click away from the picture before I could come back to my computer. Aimo's brother found out about this fear when I was in the 7th grade and used to torment me with a certain page in our science textbook. To be honest, I'm going to be scared to come here for the next few days. Seriously, no spider pictures. You'll scare me away for weeks.
I’m scared of them too to be blunt. But then I moved to a more bucolic environment which actually forced me to cohabitate with them. As I’ve grown older, I’ve gotten less. Willing to kill creatures, indiscriminately and now believe it or not, I will usher most spiders out the door with a broom. I have to admit that, and being a mom and Pop landlord has been somewhat therapeutic.
Only Wednesday, sigh.
SOME spiders scare me. I’m good with tarantulas and some of the little wispy things in ceiling corners and garden beds. Even though they’re mostly harmless, banana and wolf spiders creep me out at times. There are few things more anxiety inducing than walking into a banana spider web face first and not knowing where that sucker is.
The male of that new trap door species definitely looks a little twilight zone.
I think this is seriously cool, personally. My philosophy when it comes to spiders has always been to live and let live, but I don't need to cohabit with them and most spiders are too difficult to remove using humane methods. Also, I draw the line at anything dangerous. I'm not going to leave a Black Widow hanging around anywhere near. But I love to watch spiders. It's like watching aliens. I wouldn't say I love spiders, but I certainly admire them.
I can relate to the phobia thing, though. I went to the desert southwest a few years ago, and I have a heck of time with some of those drop-offs. Not quite as bad as my son, who couldn't even approach some of the fenced-in overlooks, but I've had a few more years than he has to practice using my intellect to overcome the sheer terror. But any drop-off without the fence, and I'm staying several body lengths away. Love the view. Can't stand the height. It was totally bizarre to see some people dangling their legs over the edge of a multi-thousand-foot cliff. There's no way in hell.
I played basketball for the first time in over a year and it looked like I was playing basketball for the first time in over a year. I was playing with 20-year-olds who don't know what a good shot is and that was kind of annoying. But it felt good to get out and run again.
