Yay! Still haven't done the necessary to watch Hamilton, but when I do, I'll get my money's worth by watching this too.

I'll give the Muppets a try...
Dishes are never actually done.
Is there a significance to 144? Other than being 12 dozen?
Strawberry PopTarts in my Amazon Pantry box. Nope, I didn't go big. The choice was between a box of 8 or a box of 32. I went with the 8.
I like the crust all on its own. Sometimes, it doesn't even need a filling. Back in the day, my Mom would have leftover pie crust dough and we would get to form it into a shape and sprinkle some sugar and cinnamon on top and bake it ourselves. Between that and being able to clean up the mixer, I was happy.
I just read an author review and apparently there is a sexy dystopian romance genre.
Last 2 miles done, plus an extra 0.3.
I liked the RuPaul quote from the Muppets Now episode.
Now watching The Muppet Movie. I haven't seen this in 40 years.
I think I have my theme for the weekend. This give me 7 other films to watch..
And on to the caper...
I strongly support your choice, Ymo.
This remains one of the great scenes in cinematic history:

I always tell my kids that I make the best crêpes anywhere — as long as they are not fixated on arbitrary concepts of “round.”
Rain last night = too wet to mow this morning
Not sure when it will get done. And with rain twice this week it needs it.
Anyone done much reading on Passive House building stamdards?
I don't even know what that is, so, I'm going with no.
Sorry, dude. I know you're a fan, but not for sale. There is a reason I have kept them this long. You can find them on the internet.Attachment 11191Attachment 11192
Okay, cancelled Audible. Do I do the same to Netflix?
I just finished up a pork shoulder and put a dish of macaroni & an utterly obscene amount of cheese in the oven.
My current home is EnergyStar compliant. Passive House standards are significantly stricter. Like lowering your heating/AC loads by nearly 90%. That isn't entirely accurate but hope it gives some reference. Essentially, how you approach the envelope of the house is extremely important from layers of insulation to the windows selected.
Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or me. My version of comfort food. And about the only thing I can fix without messing it up.
Time to take Manhattan.
Then, you take Berlin.
(At least, that was Leonard Cohen’s strategy. Your plan may vary).

Our phone number when I was growing up — and this is true — was 24J. Wonder what that means for me?
We had one of those phones you just pick up and the operator said “number please.” It was also a party line, a fact that got my 14yo cousin in a LOT of trouble.
I think our number was 867-5309...
Wish You Were Here - Miley C. version
My grandmother made elderberry jelly. I've mostly given up eating jelly now that I no longer get a yearly jar from my grandmother.
The gap between threads is now under one hundred. These are the end times.
It’s . . . okay. During these trying times, I am working on developing a greater acceptance of the vast panoply of different tastes and choices my fellow human makes; to not concern myself with the petty differences between people; to search for common ground of understanding and not division; and OH HELL SMOOTH PEANUT BUTTER IS THE SPAWN OF SATAN CAST OUT TO BRING RUINATION AND PESTILENCE UPON THE LANDS OF THE EARTH and boy I still need to work on the whole “acceptance of difference” thing.
Or just go delete all the posts you've ever made in that thread.
This sort of polarization is ruining America. We need to strive to find common ground and shared understanding of what we value. Divisive dialogue doesn't help anyone and just continues to drive the wedge between otherwise reasonable people. We should endeavor to JESUS H CRISP SMOOTH PEANUT BUTTER??? WHAT SORT OF HUMAN BEING DOES SUCH A THING? HAVE YOU NO DECENCY?
Or just stop posting in it - choose a side! Read endless posts about craft beers if you must but don't contribute to the discussion! ;)
When did all the other nuts get their own butters? Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but I just noticed recently that they've taken over the shelves.
Sometime you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t.
We bought a jar of Blackberry Jalapeno jelly at the farmer's market yesterday. Will put it over cream cheese to be the apperizer before dinner tonight.
Does Peter Pan peanut butter still exist?
Uh oh, they are coming for us hard now...
100F plus the next 8-9 days. May finally not have to mow the yard.
I really need a full size cookie sheet.
Tornado Watch, what th'??? Might need some fried catfish with that...
Sigh, time to vacuum and sweep.
Thunder! Is it August? Yes. Is it 5:30pm? Close enough. Feels like I'm in NC!!
True story - I started the LTE as a distraction from the impending first anniversary of my son's Diagnosis Day. He was still getting his first round chemo and I was approaching the anniversary with a feeling of helplessness and dread. I took two big actions to distract myself. One was this thread. The other was deciding to have a holiday party but I didn't feel like cooking all that much, I did, however, feel like I could handle some baking and the Winter Solstice Dessert Open House was born. We've had an open house party that focused on dessert every winter solstice (or thereabouts) since 2007.
Last month, we got the good news that I've already posted, so, if we had to go down, at least it happened after Arrow's latest MRI.
And I'm thinking unless a miracle occurs, the dessert party is in danger. December is a ways away, but, I'm not seeing much cause for optimism.
Prayers for your son's health and to continued good news. I probably missed your update when first posted, but very thankful to hear it now.
If the open house party can't happen that invitation remains open to share that cookie recipe and a very fun virtual pub in December with some of the kindest souls on DBR via Zoom.
Yeah, too cold in December to hold it outside.
I just heard thunder here. It would be nice if we got some rain to go with it.
I have always admired the purpose you put into the LTE and am glad to hear of the recent good news.
This thread has been, and will continue to be, a source of joy for me.
And I do agree with rj99 — hopefully we can all have a real, or at least virtual, cocktail hour together. (I‘ve been known to sip wine or a liquor drink instead of beer).
Peace and love to all. Go Duke. Screw Carolina.
Oh man - it is pouring right now! Coming down in sheets!
Jelle's Marble League competition on youtube. Addictive.
They've held 11 (out of 16) events so far.
You can start with the Opening Ceremonies and Event 1.

Just to lower your blood pressure, I occasionally crunch up my own salted peanuts and add it to my smooth peanut butter. As a kid I would add Karo syrup and eat it out of a bowl. I have even been known to crunch up some salted cashews to add.
DO YOU FEEL A LITTLE BETTER NOW?!?
So, I got a check out of the blue from the Treasury Department..
Auto insurance has just credited my account the last few months.

Well, it was supposed to be animated and say It’s a trap!
I spent several hours reading in the hot sun in my backyard today. I’ve got my best tan in years on account of many afternoons with not much to do other than sit in the sun and get some good spiritual benefits from the sunshine.
Spread the Blackberry Jalapeno Jelly over cream cheese and served with crackers. Just the right amount of heat. Would definitely do this again
I had absolutely no effect from either shot, other than a very minor soreness at the injection site.
I credit the minor soreness to my father, who was in the Navy (on a destroyer which was patrolling Tokyo harbor for submarines while the peace treaty was being signed). When I entered boot camp, he told me that when I got my many, many shots in to exercise my arms like crazy to keep from getting sore. I did. Many others did not. I was fine the day after. Those who babied their arms were miserably sore the next day.
Going to attempt my first run since spraining my ankle about a month ago. Not positive how this will go.
July was the warmest month ever recorded in VT (going back 140 years) and it felt like it...but cool today, high in the 70s...very long walk looms.
Most interesting pronunciation of ISAIAS so far: Spectrum weather reporter said ISA-NISA. Not sure where the N came from, but points for creativity. He had it straight by Sunday.
Good morning, hot and sweaty here. Without exercise. Worked out this morning and it is not pleasant...
We are having unusually low temperatures. Sitting outside after dinner was even a bit chilly.
Weather here should be gorgeous this week. Will likely change in a half hour so stay tuned.
What's the word from our Brunswick County, NC friends? The Annual Turkapalooza event on Holden Beach will be held in-person in a couple weeks (closing in on 40 years so far). Every body behaving themselves? Tentative line up is 3 houses, around 17 or so people between 85 and 8. No cover / no minimum / masks required!!!
So is DinK's.
And anything OPK decides to grill.
Unfortunately at lunch today, it was not peanut butter - jelly time.
Planning a road trip and trying to find a reason to make driving through North Dakota worth my while

Do enough to ensure you can cross it off your list of states visited.
I know where I want to go once I can travel again!
Isaias is stopping by tomorrow and bringing us 2-4 inches of rain and perhaps a flash flood...
Nearly a half hour of rain and still going. Very unusual for us during the summer.
Have the pleasure of calling Xfinity customer service later this morning. On the edge of my seat.
I'm not at all religious, but I still may pray for you. Their customer service unit is located in the seventh ring of hell...I called them last week because my modem was failing...I've learned over the years to pay their preposterous monthly charge for a modem (pure extortion) because if you don't, every time you call their default position is that "YOUR modem is faulty, fix it yourself, bye bye." Sure enough, they tried that off the bat, until I pointed out I pay $14 a month for THEIR modem...eventually got them to pay attention, but not before they tried to hit me with a $15 service charge (for a modem I've paid them probably $800 for that originally cost $100 or so)..
Best of luck, say hi for me!
Forecast center of Issy's track puts it in our backyard this evening, just in time for meat loaf!
Dodged another bullet in Durham, thank goodness! Hardly any wind last night. Of course, I slept through it. Feels wonderful outside right now. Very fresh and clean.
Yes, the interesting part of heavy duty storms, the day or two afterwards with very nice weather.
I hear you on DirecTV..is it ANY wonder they're losing about a million customers per quarter? I like the service OK when it works, but when you need help, best o' luck.
At this rate they'll be gone in a few years.
Of course, then my default TV provider will be Comcast, d'oh!
Back in the late 70’s or early 80’s (can’t remember exactly), I took a weeks vacation and was planning on going to Nags Head for the week. But I got busy playing tennis and partying and procrastinated packing and leaving Durham until Tuesday. While getting closer to the beach, I noticed that no cars were headed in my direction to the beach, but many cars were headed away from the beach. I considered myself fortunate and thought my timing was perfect. As I checked into the motel (a Holiday Inn or Howard Johnson I think) the folks at the front desk were acting weird, and even told me that when I got ready to eat in their restaurant to call ahead and they would open it up for me. Great service, I thought. After carrying my bag to the room, I napped. Upon waking up, I turned on the radio. The first thing I heard was the weatherman saying that the hurricane warning was still in effect for the Outer Banks. Turned out the hurricane lingered and stayed offshore, with only rain and wind at the beach. Ended up being a very relaxing stay with only me and the locals around. But it taught me a lesson about checking the weather and news before heading to the beach.
It was 59 degrees at 7:15 this morning. Is this really August?
About done here in DC. I got about 3" total.

Cloudy here.
current radar has the center, such as it is, over the Garden State. Raining here moderately, big rain later this afternoon and evening:https://www.wunderground.com/maps/radar/current
Just had a car plow through a column right in front of our office. I was sitting right in front of the window and got a front row view. Hit and run, but I got a picture of the license tag.
A little excitement for a rather mundane Tuesday.
I get the instinct to run but not the follow through - some things from childhood stick with you*. So now it is a case of "they can run but they can not hide". Good job on the picture.
*I'm going to hide before Mom finds out I broke the lamp. This goes along with "if I can't see you, you can't see me".
Well, that sure would cause an adrenaline burst!
I went outside to check if the lady was OK, but she just drove off. I wasn't expecting a hit and run. Luckily I had my phone on me!
When it being 4F lower then forecast is a win...
It's raining and windy but not dangerously so, yet.
Not having a typo in a post would be a win also...
Played my first on-line H.O.R.S.E. mixed poker sit-n-go single table in a few years tonight (play money). Forgot how much I like some of those games. (Won, FWIW).
I missed my random spring trip; my summer family vacation; my random weekend summer beach trip; and will not be going to Vegas this fall. Damn I’m getting itchy.
Can’t wait to play live poker again, just sitting around having fun with friends in close proximity.
Indeed. And I like HORSE because it is five games, not NLH which is my usual. Makes you stretch.
When tailgating finally returns, we will need to get a DBR fun game. I’m sure there are others who would play. (I assume JasonEvans plays from his avatar for example, although not sure he makes it up to games. I’m guessing there are others). And beer of course; cigars optional.
Do you play on-line? I play on PokerStars and have played on Pokerface. All play money, of course, here in Georgia.
I miss getting together with my knitting group. We've been meeting roughly once a month for 25 years. We've done a few Zooms but haven't for a couple of months. Summer is often a down time for us. (See previous post about it being too hot to knit.)
Have I posted this before? Does anybody really care if I have?
I counted up all the Shakespeare plays I have seen live:
Cymbelline, As You Like It, Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear, Romeo & Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Love's Labors Lost, Henry IV Pt. 1, Henry IV Pt. 2, Henry V, Julius Caesar, Troilus and Cressida, Antony and Cleopatra, Measure for Measure, The Merchant of Venice, 12th Night, The Winter's Tale, The Tempest, Richard III, The Taming of the Shrew, and Much Ado About Nothing. That's 22.
I have also performed in Othello and Pericles, which I count has having seen them live, even if I was acting in them, I still saw them. That makes 24.
Who has me beat?
Othello is the weird one - I had never seen a live performance of it before I acted in it. Film versions, sure, but I'm only counting live performances. Prior to acting in it, it was the only play that I'd seen on film but not live.
The earliest bit of film of a Shakespeare play is the death scene from King John.
I saw it in the special Magna Carta exhibit at the British Library when I traveled there with the family (minus T-Bone who was at TIP) in Summer 2015.

Homemade pizzas and a lovely evening of forgetting the world on the deck with one of my oldest friends and her wonderful partner.
Cooked on a grill? Charcoal or gas?
HORSE is so legit.
I used to play once a week 2001 to 2007-ish in a live game with some guys who knew my bs and I knew theirs. They were better than me, and I learned a lot (meaning by now I've forgotten it all). Thankfully it was low stakes - $10 buy-in. I'd gladly pay again whatever I lost in that game for the great times had over some good drinks. I had my first Bell's 2 hearted and Old Chub in that game right after they were released.
But we never could get that game together unless we played NLH Cash or tourney. People were scared to play for money in a game they didn't know how to play (except NLH). I've played Omaha and Stud a handful of times, and they were fun (I had no clue what I was doing on strategy and still don't). I did ok with stud, but against weak players. I think I've played maybe 2 hands of Razz in my life and it was weird.
After starting med school, I've played probably less than once a year, usually in Vegas. This year's trip in May obviously got cancelled, and I may not get back for a while.
I don't think I'd ever played online until the pandemic when our family did it a couple times, free play money on PokerStars. I've largely avoided online poker, as the joy for me has usually been the social experience and camaraderie.
I'd love to play at a tailgate.
Philly dodged it. Some flooding, no power outages for us. It was trash day so a few recycle bins got washed down the street. Put a motor on those bad boys. More seriously, we got word that Holden Beach is closed except for property owners, all rentals on hold until further notice. Start working on Plan B alternate in case we have to reschedule Turkapalooza. Saw a TV clip from Oak Island, and some pix from Ocean Isle, but not much of anything from Holden. Fingers crossed!!
The Orleans in Vegas is an off-the-strip, sorta rundown local casino. (“Sorta rundown” is being kind although they have a great oyster bar/restaurant). But they are the only ones that spread really odd games — like Omaha H/L limit and stud. On Sunday nights, they have a HORSE tourney for about $100-$125 buy-in. Lots of fun.
Last time I played, the guy to my buddy’s right was Dutch Boyd — winner of three WSOP bracelets. Good luck with that.
Last time I played at the WSOP (not the Main Event) I ended up sitting next to Chris “Jesus” Ferguson and Jean-Robert Bellande at the bar eating dinner. Nice dudes, even though most hate Ferguson after his role in the Full Tilt Poker fiasco. I don’t play for money on-line so no skin off my apple, but — it’s palpable.
1.75 inches of rain, 50 mph gusts, no downed trees, all is well.
Anyone else finding yeast hard to obtain? Lots of Covid baking going on...
