Funny you should mention that. It's about 50 here now, I think...

30 is closer than 14, haha.
Well, she did match us up against a bunch of knitters(meant in the kindest way). Actually, someone I work with is knitting a bunch of caps for patients at a local hospital. I'm almost tempted to give it a shot.
Oh, back to my point, they have a cast of thousands compared to our relative merry band of few.
If I post 3 more times before I leave to go shopping, I'll be at 800.
And with this post I reach the magical number of 800. I'm off to brave the masses, but I'll be back later! I trust the rest of you to keep the dream of 7500 alive. :D
Hmmm, clarifying what I meant by midnight on the 21st. You know how on New Year's Eve, December 31st, everybody waits around until midnight and then starts kissing somebody? So, today's the 20th, the anniversary of this thread. Midnight of the 21st is about 14 hours, 45 minutes away. Ozzie pointed out recently that it was started around 5:30pm. I just suggested we give ourselves the whole day to reach 7500. OK?
Feel free to start kissing somebody at midnight.
And Happy Anniversary!
I slept in today, an extreme rarity. Luckily number 3 son's basketball game at the Boys and Girls Club is cancelled. Number 2 son's game at 11am is supposed to go on. There are between 7 and 10 inches of snow on the ground. Hubby's back is still on the mend. I have to go shovel the driveway, clear off the car, make breakfast for everybody, drive to the basketball game, and start cooking for the party tonight. Hmmm, I'm beginning to be suspicious of this 'bad back'. My Christmas shopping is nowhere near done. Yesterday was supposed to be my big shopping day and it got snowed out. I'm in trouble.
On a happy note, 121 posts to go!
I won't be around at midnight guys, there are supposed to be at least two partygoers left drinking scotch in my living room. That's what I promise everyone anyway, somebody will still be drinking scotch at midnight.
Hmmm...I'm just a most of the day guest at someone else's place today. And it will be heavily weighted towards guys and wives, so I'll refrain from kissing anyone.
That gives me goal for my own party. I will try to kiss someone else's wife tonight.
I have a friend or two that would be much more interested in seeing that. Or me kissing a woman's husband or any man in general. I don't think this evening will be the time for me to satisfy their prurient interests.
Today's host has been duly informed about the events at the 2 PM EST hour. They are all for it as it will distract me from the task at hand.
It won't be hard, the kiss I mean, cause I'm not saying it will be on the lips.
My cats appear to have a thing for Kleenex. Here is a TravelPak suffering at the claws of my cat Kelly. I offered to open them for her, she said she had it handled.
That does make it easier...and on a similar topic I prefer greeting women in South America. You're supposed to do the cheek to cheek thing. Here in the US it is always a little less certain what is supposed to be done at least for me. Perhaps I throw off some weird body language?
My goal is to get this under 100 to go by the time I leave for today's activities. I can post a few more time via cell phone if necessary but others will have to do the heavy lifting at that point.
Semi-serious question...anyone know what happened to the PayPal link to make donations to DBR?
So was the secondary goal, LOL!
Yes, it has. I've been trying to make up some ground on Lavabe and you so that I won't be that far behind in getting to Morocco. Any idea where to next after Morocco? I assume the final destination is a building in NC...
And now we are down to less than 100 posts to our goal...
Welcome back! The baton is being handed your way...we are quickly approaching our goal.
Gthc, gth!!! Why can't I make the caps stay on? this is aggravating.
What's for breakfast? We're having country ham and eggs. I love that my guy cooks. I am a very spoiled woman.
Waffles and Bacon here...just finished. My guy cooks too, but then I am my guy! LOL!
the holes also play at 2. Who thinks I should get to watch Duke on the big TV and let Stevo watch the baby puke blues on the smaller TV?
what is the name of your gray kitty? I keep forgetting. My gray kitty, Milo, is your kitty's evil twin. Milo has issues.
I actually have two and they are brother and sister. The one sleeping up top is Kelly, the one stuck in the Kleenex box below is Grant. Yes, named after the Grant that was blocking the door at Zack's one night while I was trying to get out. Some have also noted that if you look at the stars of To Catch a Thief, you have their last names. To celebrate 1 year together, I got them a poster from the movie. They really liked the box it came in.
Okay, time for me to go...hopefully the milestone will be long past by the time I get back!
Although my guy did make some pretty good venison tacos for dinner last week
How am I doing with the PW'ing thing? My fingers are getting a little tired, but it's worth it to get us to our goal.
69 to go. I'll behave and not make a crude joke:D
I'm taking a break from baking. My dessert goals for tonight's Winter Solstice Dessert Open House - 1 lemon chess pie (pie crust chilling for 2 hours in the fridge as we speak), gingerbread, a baked custard, and mint chocolate snowball cookies. Those cookies are the closest I've ever come to replicating the chocolate peppermint Pop Tarts in flavor. Mmmm. It seems appropriate to reference the Pop Tarts today. They did start all this.
Welcome back, you have been missed.
Dadblasted Big 12 country - why do they think we want to watch Texas? Duke would be a much better choice.
I could probably walk with O Come All Ye Faithful - because I always sing the first verse in Latin - even if no one else does.
Congratulations to YBT, DevilDeac, and ArkieDukie. A very impressive display of posting abilities this morning. The goal by midnight is very doable - and maybe even by 5:30!
I haven't finished my shopping yet and still have to finish my baking. I didn't think we were exchanging presents but it appears that we are. I am going with home made, fair trade purchases, items from stores that support the disabled, and wine.
AR fans have special words for the TX fight song. "Texas Bite" instead of "Texas Fight." That should give you the general drift. :D
I did fine on the first verse. The second and third verses that we sang were totally new to me. We did a total of 5 or 6; the others were familiar. And, of course, the unfamiliar verses came when were processing through the middle of the congregation.
It seems to be much easier to get up a string of uninterrupted posts during the basketball game. Of course, I'd rather be watching the game. Darn CBS. They're showing Michigan State here.
BTW, DiK, I finally remembered to check out our handbells. THey have that funky German (I think) name; I can't remember what it is. We played Dobrinksi's arrangement of "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" and an arrangement of "Infant Holy, Infant Lowly" that had "Coventry Carol" as an interlude. Both were pretty nice, even though the Dobrinski piece was complete with her usual random time and key signature changes.
We're only 49 posts away from the goal! Should we go for 8000?
I don't think our handbells could handle a Dobrinski piece - too many new ringers. We will be playing "On This Day Earth Shall Ring" tomorrow and then various members will play during hymns and one of the choir pieces. I wanted to be a little more challenged so I talked another ringer into doing some duets with piano. We played last weekend - "Still, Still, Still" and "O, Come All Ye Faithful". They went pretty well and we impressed people with the number of bells played. It was fun. I wish we had a more dedicated choir - people just don't make practice a priority. Very annoying!
We will be playing for the 5pm Christmas Eve service - it is a piece with bells and narration called "Mary, Joseph, & the Baby". I'm still not sure how many bells I'll end up with - they don't play at the same time so I will probably accumulate a few high and low bells.
I know but both my sisters went to KU and it is just 45 minutes down the road. I have to at least try to look like I care.
Best KU story - I went to the NCAA tournament in California a few years ago when Duke played KU. I went with a client, my boss, and another person on KU tickets so I stayed in the KU team hotel. I talked to both Roy "Huckleberry Hound" Williams an d their AD Lew Perkins and let them know I was rooting for Duke. (I saw Perkins at the KU pep rally.) Unfortunately, Duke lost but I stayed for the Sunday game anyway. When I was returning to my room on the 16th floor, two kids in the elevator said to each other that I must be Nick Collison's mom because I was on such a high floor. I thought to myself that I couldn't be Nick Collison's mom - then I did the math and I could have been his mom and would have been out of college when I had him. What a rude awakening. :D
So you have Schlemerich (sp?) also. We had the discussion at the last practice that someone wanted the handles to be color coded so that the accidentals were black and the naturals were white like a keyboard. Although that would be nice, we aren't going to come up with the funds to replace our bells with Malmark bells to get that feature.
I have to admit that the end of the Texas - Michigan State game has been exciting.
Lavabe - Put the Purdue game on for ILJ - Jim is one of the announcers. It is on CBS here.
Turk - if you're tired of the dead Korean shtick, I also have a horse and a soldier haniwa. In 4th to 6th century Japan, these statues started appearing on graves in Japan. One version of the origin is that the servants/soldiers/animals of a ruler would be buried alive in the deceased's tomb. Someone in power couldn't stand the sound of the people buried alive and instituted the policy of burying terra cotta replicas instead. FYI - mine are not original - they are small replicas.
Only 32 to reach 7,500 - can we do that in just over an hour?
31 after this post.
I've never heard them side by side to judge. Frankly, my ear probably isn't good enough to notice the difference. I'm just used to ours. I would like to find a place to learn how to work on the bells. I think we have a few that could benefit from some adjustments but I don't know enough to do them. I can change the clapper from S to M to H and have replaced the collars on two that cracked. No one else wanted to do it so I did.l
I have taken to keeping the tools at hand when we play. One service, a bell fell apart just as we finished a piece and before the next piece with no tools at hand. Fortunately, someone had a paperclip and we quickly tightened the screw on the clapper.
One of our ringers thinks he knows how to fix bells. He tightened all of them before our last performance. There were several times I tried to ring and no sound came out. It's really amazing how quickly we become accustomed to our bells and how hard we have to ring them to get just the right volume.
I have a batch of spaghetti sauce in the slow cooker and it is smelling like Italian heaven. Mmmmm. This is the first time I've cooked in forever. My guy does all the cooking and it was killing him not to be in charge.
Looks like getting to 7500 posts today is a given:)
Is there a time deadline for reaching 7500?
Time to stir the sauce and boil the noodles. I'll be back in a few. Keep up the good work folks.
You are correct; it needs to be tightened. I think you basically tighten the screw until it rings the way you want it to. If you overdo it, just loosen a little. I've never done this myself, but I've watched others do it. You should definitely not adjust someone else's bells if they're not present to give you input.
I'm happy to report that I have blossoms on my lime tree. I don't know if you get a lime per blossom cluster or per blossom. I just hope I get a few.
One hour, six posts. We could do that with one Billybreen tied up in a cellar! ;)
Taking a break to go to a Christmas party now and because I am getting too close to the lemur scent just ahead of me:o. Looks like we'll be a few minutes late but, hey, it's still aniversary day:D.
Are we going to reserve post 7,500 for BD?
Shall we try again...
Laettner catches the ball, spins... shoots...
ILJ appreciates the heads up.
So ILJ gets to see Jimmy and GMan at the beginning of the second half.
That game got boring very quickly, but not for ILJ.
:D
I finally got the end of the LTE. Great job everyone getting to 7500 today. I was supposed to help out, but plans changed. I was out house hunting today. Found a cute little cottage/bungalow in north Durham that I am seriously considering putting an offer on soon. One of the really nice things about the house/land is that the backyard is huge, but I won't have to mow. A previous owner put in sections of ground ivy with a stone path to the shed in the (way) back. Oh and two huge trees, one in the front, one in the back so plenty of shading in the spring/summer/fall. :D
I also meant to say to Devildeac, DIK, Sue, ArkieDukie, YMo, Bostondevil, DukePA, kmspeaks, Ozzie (1 post), Lavabe and Tilly:
WOW! Great job today, guys! I have PW envy.
Very fun, although I'm still a PW rookie.
Here's a PW. I'm at work. It's 7:20pm. I've been here since 9:30am. Our first game was MBB at 12 noon. Our 2nd game was WBB at 4:45pm. The 3rd game (also WBB) started at 7pm. I probably won't get out until 9:30pm.
I had a full day of work plus a WBB doubleheader yesterday.
I've been doing Rose Bowl tickets for 2 weeks (12 hour days).
I'm bored. I'm tired. I need a nap.
We cut virtually all our staff, it's that slow. But we have to stay open a little while longer.
I'm sitting here watching traffic go by as I post. Quite exciting.
Oooh oooh! A kid on a bike just went by! (Not a car... so hey, I have to entertain myself here...)
I'm contemplating making some popcorn. Too bad I don't have a machine. :(
Wow!
Happy Winter Solstice everybody!
There were two people left drinking in my living room at midnight but they have gone home now. The kids? Are not in bed. Yes, I'm a terrible mother. Time to go take care of that.
LTE - Year 2. Predictions anybody? On anything.
I predict that Florida will beat Oklahoma.
Thanks! Every post counts!
It's finally snowing here in Secaucus. It started about 8 when we were at a German restaurant in Manhattan. Food was OK but nothing great. DD will be interested to know that I did get to go by the Carnegie Deli tonight and my mission was successful! DD will get a Woody tomorrow!:D I'll swing by Raleigh tomorrow sometime in the late afternoon or evening, depending on traffic and road conditions (see above: snow is falling).
DD-
Better make sure those eats make it all the way back to Raleigh before making that nomination... I think that bag constitutes Ozzie's "survival kit" if he gets stuck in the snow!
Thanks again, Oz, great seeing you and your brothers!
Safe travels. 3-5 inches due in north Jersey tonight.
-BDBD...
:p
Hmmm since it seems Ozzie forgot about my soup, I may have to make a run to one of the delis tomorrow. If I can get out of bed. Tirrrrrrrrrrrred.
Morning, all! How's everyone this morning? Just another exciting day in the AD household: I just started 2 loads of laundry. The only advantage to having to pay to wash my clothes is that I can wash multiple loads at once.
Yes! Many times, since they seem capable of escaping once in a while.
Major snow outside here in Secaucus this morning. It'll change to a snow/sleet/rain mix as the morning marches on. Not sure when I should leave. The speed limit on the NJ Turnpike is reduced to 50 mph right now - so the folks on Channel 2 tell me.
I will advise. Maybe.
Oooh, hadn't thought of that. Ozzie's delivery service has been REAL reliable over the last several years. As has our co-operative delivery service for similar merchandise;). That said, if his survival depends on my sammich, then I value human life far more than corned beef or pastrami. But I would still hope he could get AAA to deliver emergency rations/tow truck/extra fuel before he devours my sammich/es:D.
I predict that somehow, someway I will get all the Christmas shopping and preparations done in time. Which how and what way remain somewhat mysterious but I'll get there. Except for the cards, most likely the cards aren't happening this year, maybe Valentines!
