For us older folks it is hard to tell. You used to judge these things on album sales and radio airplay. Haven't touched an album in years...not even the CD kind.

Nephew Alex shared his nerd-ness on the Clemson football vlog. :)
I don't think he has played football since elementary school so his nerd-ness is all that has him as part of the coaching staff. He embraces it. During their national championship parade, he told me he was telling kids along the parade route - "Study hard! Stay in school! Be a nerd!"
Does any man here save old lamp cords cut off from broken lamps to transplant into new lamps that might need a cord? Thereby inviting a conflagration in the tv room? Or maybe ten bajillion drill bits from drills that were probably made in the early hand crank years when guys wore stove pipe hats? Or two identical files (in the stuffed file cabinet) of duplicate direction booklets for appliances that were in our first house many years ago? At last count, 23 assorted tubes of caulk in various amounts. Just a tease of what's in that morass.
Does anybody know a good insanity defense lawyer? I figure I can easily handle three years inside for manslaughter and then a lengthy probation. Nothing on my record, upstanding citizen.
Three squares a day and maybe a job in the kitchen?
I've been swinging from eye rolling steam-heated sniping to hysterical keening laughter today during the Shop Cleanse Chronicles here in Olde Virginny.
LTE is becoming my behavioral psychologist!!!
I really want to visit the Weezie household.
I only have 8 different tubes of caulk in my garage. I'm about to clear some out.
Hey Ymo, interested in, hhmmm, seven rolls of solder stuff, that metal cable? I've got several blue canisters of gas, too, likely empty but still. Wrench museum, duplicate construction helmets from some Boy Scout gathering 30 years ago, spray paint can hoard that Banksy would envy...
I could make this weezie's ebay right here! But I'd insist on doing the paying.
Well, well, what do we have here?
Sir wilson, I am coming for those t-shirts next. They might go right into the bin on top of the mismatched and uneven chair leg protectors that I unearthed today. While husband-of-weezie was toiling away at work, I tried testing his various small handaxes out by throwing them (not kidding) into the plywood walls in the shop. They are very dull. Lucky him.
Solder isn't really my thing, mech eng. for undergrad and a few years as one in the real world. Mismatched wrenches are more my speed. I have too many t-shirts...
It's very pleasant here this afternoon. Hard to believe that the eye of Michael will be over my house, literally, in about 18 hours.
I may be off the interwebs for awhile.
Slowly but surely this thread is approaching 1 million views...
Just took the dog out in the eye of the storm. Knock on wood, never lost power and the backs eyewall seems strong but small.
This storm seemed to lose energy as quickly as it amassed it, thankfully.
I hope its sojourn over the Carolinas is quick and without significant rain.
Mild to moderate flooding here in WNC. A lot of school districts closed today.
Hope everyone is NC and other areas are okay. Friends from W-S have posted lots of flooded road videos.
Foo Fighters here I come!!!
Concert tonight in Detroit at the spanking new Little Caesar's Arena.
We likes to party!
Got my eye on a little used Tacoma. Need to first learn to drive a stick
Just stretching
Allen Stone has an incredible voice.
I beginnning to think a tin foil hat might make a nice complement to my current wardrobe.
Just in case you missed it:
Last weekend, Dave brought a 10 year old on stage in KC who rocked out to Enter Sandman and got to leave with his Gibson:
https://youtu.be/s-NkVcJiqPo
Earlier in the year, another fan (this time in full Kiss makeup) got called up to the stage and then proceeded to SHRED THE SH9fT OUT OF MONKEY WRENCH. In interviews afterwards he said he was planning on just trying to chill and play a song he knew well so he didn't mess up, but Dave's enthusiasm made him think "F9fck it, let's rock."

As a species, we don't deserve Dave Grohl.
New reasons to love Dave Grohl!
Does Dave Grohl ever wear tin foil hats?
I’m a fan now...
So, yeah, I have a ticket for tonight's drawing...
They are out in full force...sigh.
Go Sunday morning while everyone else is in church
Well, I for one am happy that the Buckeyes and Brewers lost.
After the spectacular amounts of rain this summer, I demand some top level leaf color!
Come on Fall! Get your act on! It's taking forever.
We skipped fall and went straight to winter here. We may get spring later this week.
It seems my winning Mega Millions ticket was sold to someone else by accident.
To soothe my lottery blues, I stirred up a creamy pot of broccoli rabe risotto for dinner. Resisted the urge to eat it with the serving spoon.
It's not 1.6 billion samoleans but it was pretty darned good.
There is $620 million up for grabsin the Powerball drawing tonight. Not a bad consolation prize.
That's not going to buy me the Detroit Pistons though. Sniff.
I never liked this guy.
Colin Jost, snl snappy pants on his fanboy status:
"Detroit connections: Does Jost, who spent his early years in Staten Island, have any? Well, growing up, he was a self-described huge Michigan Wolverine fan: 'I think it was a combination of when the Fab Five was there playing basketball and also their football team was great at that time, a Desmond Howard era.' "
That's just about enough out of him for me.
Autumn has unfortunately decided to skip Asheville this year. On the bright side, hopefully the "leafers" get the memo and stay home
So, I take a day off and now the grass cutting guy "King of the Yappers" decides it's a fine day to come over and bug the poo out of me. I'm plotting how to sneak out of the house without him catching sight of me.
The sad travails of the lady of the manor...
I literally ran out the front door while he was in the back field muttering GoGoGo to myself. Nearly put the car in neutral and rolled down the driveway hill but cool-headed action prevailed and I was able to escape undetected.
Ninja-weez. Until I returned several hours later and he was still here! Cripessake!
Had to resort to the old Ronald Reagan wave-point to-ears-shake head and scramble into the house with groceries.
It's pitiful. Work men! They LOVE me. I must be featured on some garage/warehouse calendar somewhere in hell.
For a second there, I thought you said goonie goo goo. Ahh, the days of my youth, when Eddie Murphy was Eddie Murphy.
Had to turn the ceiling fans back on...
So, I have this feeling that I'm heading into a cranky phase...
Yesterday was a SFD day. Good news was I actually managed to avoid curling up in a ball in the corner. Went to see a local high school performance of The Music Man. It helped. It was still a SFD day but the urge to crawl into the corner went away.
Did you try changing glasses??
Yikes, colder here than at home.
Dropped by the EK Board to pay my respects to Al Featherston/Olympic Fan and couldn’t leave without stopping by here to say hello. Now it’s time to VOTE!
I want to go to the Champions Classic tonight. I also don't want to pay $250 for a balcony ticket.
I have returned from my trip to London in time to vote. If things do not go mostly my way today - I will consider moving to London.

Is this how UNLV felt in 1990?
Although I was ready for the heat and humidity of summer to disappear, I wasn't ready for snow to start already. At least it hasn't been cold enough for the ground to be frozen - snow doesn't appear to be sticking.
Sigh, we may be in the low 30s next week.
It isn’t polite to refer to the Urban Dictionary.
Oh LTE, rumors of your demise are greatly exaggerated.
Jeez o Pete! Hang in there California. It's awful out there.
Years ago it would be a viable SNL skit. (Not the California wildfires.)
The juvenile giggling of my youth returns every time I see it.
3-1 for the weekend. 4-0 was within reach however...
Really craving Indian food. Just thought you all should know.
Bye.
Well did you have Indian food?
Here's that open day where the weather is awful, sleeting and rain, schools closed, nothing overly pressing workwise, a new book to read and a soup recipe for dinner. Ah yes, the needlepoint is also looking attractive. Load up the fireplace and waste some sweet time!
Think I'll peruse the Christmas pile and start some wrapping.
Oh, the weather outside is frightful.
Actually - it's getting a bit better now, but it was frightful.
It's here! Today is the day!
It's The Oyster Riot at The Old Ebbitt Grill in DC! No holds barred gluttony. Oysters from both coasts and Canada. Yippee!!!!
Catatonia, full steam ahead.
Up too late watching foootball. A 7-5 Duke versus a 6-6 Vandy in the Indepence Bowl would work out well for me.
Ok, think I have the Tgiving sitch under control. Many hours trudging to grocery, wine, ABC stores.
And, wine, did I get enough?
Too much wine is never enough.
I'm about to put turkey #1 of 3 in the oven, this one for my school's annual Thanksgiving feast.
Boy, do I love this time of year.
Even more discussion of the LTE's demise. Some will never learn.
Roasting a duck on Thursday. Looking forward to it!
Slow and steady wins the race.
Unless it’s a sprint, of course. Then slow and steady loses.
I'm doing a turkey breast Thursday. I really like stuffing more than the whole turkey thing. But the highlight might be the sausage egg casserole for breakfast.
Picking up my turkey later today - always get a fresh turkey from the same small grocery store that has an old style (and awesome) butcher shop.
A Thanksgiving public service announcement.
I am sorry to report that Pumpkin Pie PopTarts are disgusting. I may have posted that before but it bears repeating.
That Ymmm, Beer thread is still doing good business.
Oven stopped working this morning. Nearly had a panic attack. Replaced breaker, all's well. Sheesh.
It is Turkey Day, y'all. Gobble, gobble.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
“As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.”
Ahhhhhhhhhh......
Phooey on the calories.
It was superb.
I think I like making turkey stock more than using it. Dreamed last night of making it today. Is that odd?
Duck good.
I think it’s “ better Duck”
It might be “Duck Fean.”

Turkey, stuffing, sweet potato casserole, and homemade cranberry sauce on lightly toasted, buttered and mayo’d rye.
I love America.
Black Friday. Please offer up a brief prayer for your friends and family in retail.
*MOMENT OF SILENCE*
Sigh, Vandy struggling with Kent State.
Ok, it makes me exhausted to even post but looks like we're going to ignore Kyrie's latest comment about Tgiving?
He's quite a piece of work, he is.
He's a bit wearying...
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/2...nksgiving-slam
His problem "seems" to be that he rarely has anything nice to say about anyone other than himself. And I'm sure there are hundreds of souls who might beg to differ here on dear old DBR.
But seriously, Kyrie...
I posted it on the NBA thread and didn't get a sniff.
Irving did issue an apology, but apparently his frustration stems from being part Native American - something he has delved into recently.
I still say Irving is either ignorant and antagonistic, or this generation's Andy Kaufman.
Rolling on the crossword puzzle this morning, makes me feel like the mind isn’t all gone yet.
Waiting is the hardest part...
Wipeout football weekend thus far. All the teams I was rooting for (or hating on the opponents) lost, and most of them laid stinkbombs:
Duke
WVU
Auburn
Michigan
Pitt
not to mention the NFL: Potomac / Anacostia Indigenous Persons, Lions
There might be a game or two tonight to keep an eye on, but I'm not going to jinx anyone else.
At least Cheaters lost, (not on TV up here), the fridge is still well stocked, and we don't need to wait for anyone's mashed potatoes and gravy to show up in the mail.
1-3 for the extended weekend (two basketball losses, 1 football loss), but the 'dores and Devils should both be bowl bound.
I did mist most of our game against Wake, thankfully.
Sooooooo....Dwight Howard?
Sorry, oil and transmission fluid change, along with filters and tire roatation. $200+ dollars saved.
I’m beside myself at having watched an Atlanta team (Atlanta United) actually come up big in the clutch today.
Nice! I didn't earn quite as big a discount as you - did two oil changes yesterday.
Also finally made up my mind on synthetic vs conventional motor oil. Had switched over to synthetic a couple years ago for the newer vehicles, decided to stretch out the change intervals to 6 mos / 6k to 8k miles between changes and the cars haven't complained about it. The higher price differential (about $1 per qt) for fewer oil changes over time seems to be a fair trade. This time I'm trying the high mileage synthetic for another $1 per gallon to see what happens for the 2005 PT Cruiser ("Black Beauty") which has 130K and loses between a half or full quart between oil changes.
I have no loyalty to any brand of oil or filter. I just get whatever's on sale, especially if they throw in a free filter.
My colleague at work were talking cars, and I tried to figure out how many miles Mrs. Turk and I have driven.
155K - 79 Chevy Chevette - first car I bought
165K - 83 VW Rabbit (diesel) - first car Mrs. Turk bought
215K - 86 Chevy Nova - no, not that kind of Nova. Same thing as a Corolla or Geo Prism
205K - 93 Saturn SL1 - only new car we've ever bought
195K - 99 Ford Windstar - to haul all the young Turks
130K - 05 PT Cruiser (current)
167K - 08 Sienna (current)
43K - 14 Ford Escape (current)
1.275M total (approx). So giving a generous allowance for the kids, I'd say Mrs. Turk and I have each driven about 600K apiece.
Reminded as I get an hour in the house by myself just how damn talented Jason Isbell is.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but the piping-hot cream of zucchini soup I am enjoying has renewed my faith in humanity.
Magnus Carlsen, big old chess playing bestest dudester!
A singularly unflappable person. Right on Maggie!
You got me thinking:
1990 Honda Accord EX - 125k
1994 Toyota Camry - 30k (was hit from behind and pushed into oncoming traffic, my car was totaled)
1996 Nissan Maxima - 101k
2002 Audi A4 3.0 - 25k
2009 Audi A4 3.2 -100k
2017 Acura RDX - 30k
So, 411k miles driven so far. Pattern suggests I won't have the RDX much longer, which wouldn't shock me. I like it but don't love it. The cars that I've had for 100k+ miles, I've loved...
Now I need to see where I stand on plane miles traveled, at least since I joined most of the frequent flyer programs in the 90s.
I want to milk the big cow.
Proud aunt time. Here is what Nephew Alex has been doing with the Clemson football program: https://247sports.com/college/clemso...SL--125503030/
Very interesting, DiK. We(Duke) probably need to up our game...
Atlanta United got the job done tonight and will be hosting the league final next Saturday night. I’ll be in the building, shredding my vocal cords in the Supporters’ Section. Before the game, I’ll tailgate with my two best friends from Duke, our wives, and the rest of our crew...about 30 in total.
I have invested a great deal of time, energy, and money watching my teams play over the years, but I’ve never stood in the building to watch my team, any team, play for the championship. Next Saturday, I’ll finally get to do that, and by rights, Atlanta United should win...we’ll be the better team, playing with a significant home-field advantage (with the requisite caveat that...this is Atlanta).
I hope that next weekend I’ll get to experience something that’s been on my bucket list for a long time, but either way, it’ll be a celebration of longtime friendship and tradition and roots, and it’ll be special for me.
I'M GETTING MARRIED TOMORROW!!
Too excited not to shout it out here.
I met my fiancee at Duke, and I'm so thankful to the place that brought us together. And before too long we'll be raising little Blue Devils of our own.
Vandy NC State crowd is smaller than a mime at Speakers’ Corner.
We were wondering if they just weren't able to bring the attendees down to court level to make it look more like a crowd.
Kind of a bummer.
My dilemma, should I try and get to both bowl games?
Battling a small cold the last few days. Feel like I've had more of them this year than usual.
The "get off my lawn" question on my mind this morning:
I have no idea who "Cardi B" is. Should I bother trying to find out?
Thanks, us.
