I feel like someone needs to give (one of) the coaches speeches from Running Brave.
Ah, Tuesday, the skin tag of the days of the week.
Good morning!
Tara and Johnny would not like me, I dress in baggy sweatshirts, leggings, and hiking boots. I would not be allowed anywhere near them.
Good work in the Olympics thread. I am very much just hoping to inconvenience him since he took the time to post that he wasn't watching. Trying to get him to at least look at the medal table.
Tuna Pea Wiggle tonight!
I have a novel way of dealing with the threads I'm not interested in. I don't post in those threads. I have been accused of not understanding how this whole interwebs thing works and perhaps this is part and parcel of that. I have a much earthier way of expressing this but this is a family platform
February is not my favorite.
I much prefer the summer doldrums. But then I much prefer the heat to the cold. (And yes, I do complain about the heat.)
Today's pleasant surprise came meeting with the new accountant (old one retired to play with horses) and when he found out I went to Duke that's all he would talk about. 25 of 30 minutes wallowing in the glory that is Duke. Unexpected.
he didn't, but my understanding is that the IRS budget has been so curtailed that you pretty much have to call them up and ask for an audit or you won't get one. This guy was big into The Golf, and loved playing at Duke; I told him I got PE credit for playing the course which somewhat astounded him (do people know what PE is these days?)
PE credits were no longer required by the time I got to Duke, but I earned one anyway (they were each worth 1/2 credit by this point) by learning to fly fish and ride horses.
I don’t fish much anymore (I get bored), but I still love to ride and do so several times a year. My wife and I have hit some really cool trails in some really cool places. I’m very glad I took the opportunity to learn that skill.
Here’s a shot of me in North Dakota, just outside of Theodore Roosevelt National Park:

TRNP is an absolute gem. The North Dakota badlands are a beautiful and unique landscape...quite different than the South Dakota badlands, so it's very much worth seeing both. Whereas the SD portion basically looks like Mars, all striated red rock and whatnot, the ND section has the same bumpy, layered rocks, but with much more interspersed green. It's also big sky country, so the vistas are just wonderful. Really good wildlife as well...copious bison, prairie dogs, jackrabbits, etc. Finally, it's pretty close to empty. We were there in mid-June, which is very much high season in the national parks, and felt like we just had the place to ourselves. So much quietude and so many places to just tromp off into a meadow and watch the critters do their thing. We loved it.

new food discovery, a Grouper Reuben!
I am having a cinnamon raisin English muffin, toasted, with CRUNCHY pb and eucalyptus honey. Nummy.
I used the ignore function for the first time ever on DBR.
Used to be people would go on the loss threads and commiserate and try to find silver linings or talk about improving. Whenever I was bummed about a loss I would go on and it would make me feel better. No longer the case. This one was name calling, negativity, and personal attacks. There were a few one spork posters who I suspect were trolls trying to spur on negativity (and doing a good job of it).
This board gets SO testy after a loss. Across all subjects.
I’ve never “ignored” anyone. Wonder if you could do it to all the mods? A DBR loophole to get around infractions? If that were the case, look out, I would weave a tapestry of obscenity big enough to fill CIS.
I am hopeful that Phredd didn't block me, but if he did this thread is probably going to suck for him. I say so much.
Steve McQueen wore khakis.
And sandals!

I have heard this from you before. I find all of the Neonatologists, Respiratory Therapists, and Nurses to be open minded, intelligent, and friendly. Much more so than in most hospitals (but not all) in the states. There seems to be a true esprit de corps in all of the NICUs. Just did a "Neonatology Jeopardy" lecture, followed by a whiteboard lecture on ventilation theory, disease processes, and physics in Vancouver and it went exceptionally well. Everywhere I go here it has been like this. True enough that I am not around every Canadian though.
Q: how do you stop Canadian bacon from curling in your pan?
A: take away their tiny brooms.

I think our definitions of really, really, really not nice might differ. ;)
Ok, think of it this way. You went to Carolina. If someone told me that everyone who went to Carolina was the absolute worst, I would take issue with that statement because you went to Carolina as did many people I knew and liked/admired in high school. Most people who went to Carolina are the absolute worst but it is unfair to lump everyone into a negative category merely because, for whatever reason, they were sentenced to 4 years in Chapel Hill. I also feel it is unfair to lump Canadians who are the absolute worst (I mean, there is definitely and overlap between 'Canadian' and 'Carolina alum') into a positive category merely because of their passport.
Thank you, DinK!
There are a couple of annoying posts in the Olympics thread from people who do not have their history correct.
Not too bad of an annual check up. Few things to work on as I pirouette into my 40s but no 5 alarm fires.
Blech. The cycle of toddler daycare sickness continues.
So I understand that PPB means Public Policy something from context (I think anyway). What is the B?
Board.
There used to be a dedicated Public Policy Board section here, which was shuttered for (I should hope) obvious reasons.
Fun fact: After they announced the shutdown time board in question, I made sure to log in with one minute to spare, thus ensuring that I'd be the last person ever to post on the PPB.
Is today Friday?
I don't like the built in one minute delay between posts but I really hate that the last page function doesn't start on page 2.
Lovely little half of basketball.
Played well. Watching at a bar in SC. I have to do training here all weekend. To recap: flew to Vancouver Sunday. Redeye out last night and landed in Greensboro at 10am. Did a Zoom lecture for Neonatologists in New Mexico at 3. Hugged my son. Drove 3 hours to SC. I'm sleepy.
The GI storm seems to have made its way through the entire family and everyone is now on the mend. Fast and furious, those...
conjunctivitis.com is a site for sore eyes.
Huh.
I could have sworn a few weeks ago I made post number 50K.
Hmm, did we lose a few to the mods?
Can you erase your own posts after a while? Maybe someone took their posts and went home.
I've been eating a lot of couscous lately.
I hate when “Joe Walsh” trends on Twitter and it is not that Joe Walsh.
I’d like to meet the person who invented February and punch them in the face.
BiL Wayne's first request this morning was fudge. I know what I'm doing this weekend. Stopped at the store for Fluff and chocolate chips. Going to bed now and will get up early to make fudge to deliver tomorrow night.
Woke up early. Got my game face on. 50K, let's go.
I am in a hospital in SC sleeping in call rooms while they put their first patients on our new ventilator. So not getting much sleep this weekend.
I was home for 6 weeks in December aad January. This is 4 consecutive weeks on the road. Generally I am taking 2 to 3 day trips, but this little stretch is bad. I have been home for 2 to 3 day stretches the last 4 weeks. I went to spend 3 days in Tuscaloosa with my daughter a couple of weeks ago too.
I had about a year where I was on the road maybe 20 days out of the month. I really did not enjoy it. In fairness, I was going the same places over and over and they weren’t great and I didn’t much care for my job or the people I was working with at the time.
Still. It can wear you down.
The person who discovered Uranus first named it George.
Returning to the "traveling for work" part of the thread. (Mom, you're such a killjoy!)
The hubby left yesterday for Maryland. He'll be gone 3 weeks or so. He was here for his birthday this year so I didn't have any of his birthday scotch on his birthday. I will, however, drink some of his birthday scotch for Valentine's Day.
How long should one age vodka? Asking for a friend.

Our mojo has slo-joe-d to a trickle.
I have decided I am done with the Plague thread. Let's see how long I can stick to my resolution.
Can we recommend posters for the transfer portal?
Oh wait, scratch that idea.
This is going well.
Pizza dough rising as I type.
Brady will never win the big one. Like K.
I’ll tee it up for someone.
Oh god... Is it real? Or did I miss it?
