Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
We're also fast approaching the 400th page of posts in the thread. That's a pretty good milestone. Devildeac, Lavabe, is there some sort of commemorative beer to mark such an occasion?
This is a very slow day. Not much going on. Lots of fog here.
I was going to take a break for a while, but then I thought about the possibility of regaining my record for the number of consecutive posts.
That's usually guaranteed to bring people out of the woodwork to post.
Not that I would ever be accused of PWing in order to break a record. No sirree, wouldn't happen.
That's eight, assuming no one posts before this one goes up. This one makes nine!
Does our thread have a mascot? There's much talk of cats, dogs, and lemurs. Which animal best represents our thread?
BTW, Ozzie, I really like your new location. :D
Wow - I'm Shane Battier! May have to stop for a while.
Time to step it up kids. 21 posts to go.
Hope someone is thinking/planning something special/unique for #8000 tonight:D.
I've been strangely quiet on this thread lately.
Is billy even still here?
If I get the next 8 posts, though, my 900th post could be the thread's 8000th.
That would be pretty cool, right? 900 and 8000 in a single post?
The big question, though, is whether or not there's another big player landmark between here and there for me.
I had to pause for a while to savor the Shane Battier status. What if something similar comes up again?
Only 4 more to go. If I do get the biggie, I'll have to come up with something clever.
Even if the big 8000 isn't mine, I'll still have to wax poetic for my 900th post.
Okay, will it be mine, or will I miss my own assist?
O welcome to the thread so fair
A neighborhood of all one mind
To come and chat is what we do.
There's Bostondevil - playwright and knitter,
Starter of our glorious thread.
Lavabe of lemur fame,
Devildeac, beer's his game.
Earljam pops in to make us laugh,
Random topics are the rule.
From DevilAlumna in the west
To YMo and Billybreen in the east
And DukieInKansas in the country's heart
We'll keep the thread going for 8000 more
And join Ozzie4Duke in watching Carolina go to Hell!
(What can I say. I'm a scientist!)
You are correct. Sorry about that! I did think of you as I was writing and couldn't think of a way to work you in. I was writing quickly. The natural way to work you into the poem would be to add a line about your location. I think I can still edit - let's see what I can come up with.
Ozzie - you're in!
Nicely done and worthy of 8000.
I was just thinking, since we've been setting lots of goals and all that, we will have to double by 12/20/09 and hit 15,000 by then. No pressure or anything.;)
Oh by the way, I rehearsed for the part of 'waitress' today. It's the only rehearsal I'm going to get besides tech tomorrow for my stepping in last minute. It went well. I can still learn lines at the drop of a hat. Why is that I wonder? Really. I'm asking. I'm unusally good at memorizing text. Do I sound too braggy? I'm not trying to, it's just a fact about me, kind of like saying I'm a Duke fan or a knitter. I can learn lines superfast. But why? The brain fascinates me. I often think I went into the wrong area of research.
Perhaps I'll bump the theater opps thread but for anybody local, the exact dates for the shows are January 9 and 17, confirmed. I'm a triple threat, write one, direct one, act in one, c'mon, you can't miss it! (But I will forgive you if you do.)
meanwhile Shamrog and I have been fighting a wicked Scramble duel on Facebook.
Break a leg! Looks like I left a few skills out of the infamous 8000/900 post. It would be a bit of a commute, so I'll be there in spirit.
I think that some people are just wired to memorize better than others. Working on that skill helps build it even more. I used to be much better at it than I am now, although my memory is pretty good.
Sad. :(
* Left out of AD's LTE tribute at 8k. * Saw Marley & Me. * Jan. 24th doesn't work for me. *
Sad. :(
[Side notes: 1) Great job AD. 2) Jan. 17th is back in play and Feb. 7th still is a possibility.]
And, once again, it is narrowed to a one possession game...
Watched a couple interesting NFL games Sat., for wildcards... with a couple more good ones on Sun coming. The Bolts were a stunning surprise, at least to me, as I had the Colts going to the Superbowl. The AZ Cardinals looked good against a mediocre Falcons team. But I don't see AZ getting past the next round. Looking for Balt and Philly to win Sunday...we'll see.
Does anyone know if there are any Duke football players still playing (in the NFL playoffs) at this point. 'would give me something to root for with my Redskins all dead and buried... Any NFL Dukies still going??
P.S. I'd think coach Cut's connections are likely to get more of our boys playing on Sunday down the road.
BDBD :o
I was sobbing at the end of the book - I think the trailers do everyone a disservice, by making it look all light and happy.
It's like when I went to see "My Girl" on a first date, because it looked like a cute, light-hearted movie. I was crying for nearly the entire 2nd half. AWK-WARD! :o
Despite the sadness, was M&M a good flick?
A good friend of mine is passing through our town on his way from Wisconsin to Florida.
Hmm... I wonder what he'll be bringing in the way of local products?
Still recovering from the Failcons game.
What an AWFUL 3rd quarter!
Worse than that: having spent my time in St. Louis when Bidwell took the Big Red to 'zona, to see Bidwell in his box clapping was too much.
Unless Rod Tidwell is playing, it's anyone but 'zona!:D
That was neat, AD!!
We'll see what originality comes about at 9000. Here's to hoping you break 1,000 real soon!:)
And what of Ted Drewes?
Wow, take a little time off to go down to CT...
Quite unexpectedly, yes. A $10 spin at the roulette wheel paid off...wiping out what otherwise would have been a losing one.
I should clarify, I put $20 down, $10 on a number and $10 on a color. Color hit, number didn't. $10 from the color on to the number and $10 on even. Hit the number and the even. Tipped the dealer $10 and walked away with my winnings.
First time anything like that has happened to me.
Sorry I missed you. I went through a bad spell when I was on vacation in Charlotte. Not sleeping in my own bed threw me for a loop. I've been waking up earlier these days, working out and it's been helping with the sleep a bit. We'll see how long I can keep it up. All it takes is one bad night and then I'm back out of rhythm again.
Slow afternoon around here. Heading up to Durham for dinner and the game shortly.
Everyone must be returning from their holiday trips.
Speaking of which, Lava, how did Georgia hold up on her first real road trip?
I'm feeling the need to increase my count in this thread. Not sure why.
Of course this helps me to avoid cleaning my apartment. But I'm going to have to do that eventually- my dad gets here on Saturday!
Friended is now a verb. Sez me.
Watching Chloe sleep on the corner of my bed now. Oh, and of course posting here. And chatting on FB. And watching tv.
Chloe is so dang cute.
Mr. DA has just gone on a housecleaning binge. Now, I know I shouldn't complain that the husband cleans up (he just made the kitchen spotless! (with the exception of the floors - he doesn't do floors)) but when he goes on these spurts, I feel obliged to pitch in. It's killing my plan for a lazy Sunday watching football.
Oh well, I'll have a full hard-stop at 4:45 to watch the Blue Devils, so may as well be productive until then. Oh, and sneak in some LTE posting and FB perusing in between chores. :D
It's been 1 hour and 1 minute since the last post. Unacceptable.
Going to get another load of laundry. Do I have to put it all away once it's dried/folded? (Yes, I do take it out and fold it. Then I have nice piles of clean clothes. :D )
Tilly and BD, I challenged both of you to games of Scramble on Facebook - only to promptly get horrible scores on both!
It's some new species that was found in um... uh... somewhere in Eastern Asia I think.
Edit: Yep, this is it.
Hey, Lavabe, I just signed up for adult ice skating classes at Steinberg Ice Rink. How brave am I?!
Lava, how did she fare through her first real road trip?
Let's instead discuss how freaking Oregon State just took my Trojans to OT and have it tied up currently. Farking OREGON STATE. Seriously?
Edit: :mad::mad::mad:
Edit #2: Oh. My. God. Don't. Want. To. Break. TV.
Edit #3: To the Trojans: Wake up call, boys. Welcome to Pac 10 play. Gonna play like the Oregon game or like this mess for the rest of the season? Do y'all realize you play UCLA next? Aargh!
I just put on my 9F button. Hope that helps!
Yikes! Lead cut to 7 with about a minute and a half to go!
Oregon State... Oy vei...
Let's talk about matzah ball soup!!:D
Why should I continue with IE? Should I do as others suggest and go with Firefox?
In St. Louis, "the arch effect" wards of severe weather from hitting downtown.
In Atlanta, we noticed that many severe storms suddenly go POOF when they hit the Georgia Alabama border.
Is there a word for these phenomena?:o
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh I just turned on the Duke/VT game and saw a snippit of the end of the UNC/BC game. Tell me I didn't jinx it!!!!:eek::eek:
6 pts, 12 sec. Please...
7 pts, 4 sec ...
Jason Williams isn't on the court. :)
Go to Hell, Carolina ... Go to Hell!
Let us all now rejoice.
I turned it on early and watched most of it...maybe I will have to watch more Carolina games if they all turn out as well as this one did.
Just looked in my fridge for a snack. Celery sticks or chocolate cake (left over from Cheesecake Factory)... hmmm tough choice.
I just grabbed some queso & chips - tasty! (Bowl season is the only time of year I keep that stuff in the house.)
The thread's been quiet for a while. Wonder where everyone has been? ;)
Haha, my party was with an iron and ironing board...
A bottle of wine, two cats, and some tuna fish.
Interesting, Lavabe must have slept in...
Well at least lets have a topic about it. How about how duke should do this season. Like Who should beat them and who possibly could beat them. thats good
Hancock 4 Duke - Welcome to the LTE. I hope you enjoy it as much as the rest of us. Randomness and a little PWing are a good thing.
Sorry that I forgot the welcome in the above post.
I believe a lot of schools with an Ag program have a creamery. I remember Penn State's because a number of years ago PBS did a special on the top ten ice creams in the country and it made it on the list. I have a brother-in-law that is an ice cream enthusiast and my ears always perk up at the mention of ice cream reviews because of him.
Get thee to a creamery?
Mmmmmm ice cream.
I'm tired. I had a really crappy day. I think I need the DBR Atlanta mafia. EarlJam, bro, help  I hope you all had a much better day than I did. Go Duke!! GTHC!!
Hey Fox is showing parts of the bands during the halftime show. For once, GO FOX!
Ah, got it. I had to stare at it for a minute or two until I could see the angle of the head turned to one side.
"Snakes... Why does it always have to be snakes?"
I should probably go fishing for a new avatar myself, and retire Muppet Christmas Turk to the attic with the rest of the decorations until next year...
You could go the other way and find a photo of Ataturk, or perhaps the liberal talk show folks named "The Young Turks."
Or shoot, just go with the flag of Turkey:

Cheers,
Lavabe
Ugh. Did anyone else just have a "first day back" that left you wiped out? I fell asleep on the couch in my office at work, for a mini-nap around 7PM. I mean, I was working on e-mail, listening to the radio, and next thing I know, it's 7:30.
And it's not like I haven't been getting 9-11 hours of sleep each night for the past week either. (I love vacation time for getting to sleep in!)
