It’s just really nice knowing y’all care so much.
Here comes the rain again.
Homemade blackberry mint lemonade!
Flying to NC tomorrow to visit the parents. Arrow and T-Bone are going with me. I resolve not to read the coronavirus thread while I'm down there - heck, I'll leave it alone until after the Olympics.
I should stay off the sports threads. Safe travels Bostondevil. Headed to Little Rock by way of Chicago this morning.
I wish X2 counted as a post.
I should not put the Olympics on in the morning. It makes me want to stay home and watch. I don't care which sport - I like to watch all of them. I try to see a few minutes of each sport. Last Summer Olympics, I discovered Trampoline was a thing. This year, it was 3x3 men's basketball. I knew the women were playing 3x3 but didn't realize the men were.
Men in general, yes. U.S. men, not so much. And I fully admit that when it comes to the Olympics, I'm a homer. I just can't bring myself to care about a men's basketball outcome when I have no rooting interest. Also, I like the below-the-rim tactics of the women's game quite a lot, though I also understand that I am very much in the minority in this last respect.
I can watch a lot of sports, but rhythmic gymnastics with the ribbons and big ball are a bridge too far for me. How about chainsawing?
Very exciting finish to the US - Kenya rugby match yesterday.
I have, so far, watched at least a few minutes of coverage of 24 different sports.
I like watching the swimming b/c we rock and it is really exciting to me. I like to watch the gymnastics mostly b/c I am 5'10" and could never do any of that stuff besides cartwheels.
just finished a 90 minute bout with the giant 70 foot tall pine tree that crashed into the yard, narrowly missing the house. I got in some good licks (I extricated the apple tree) but the pine tree definitely won. Time to lie down and whimper.
The great pool renovation of 2021 has entered into stage 2.
Part of me wishes.

^ wow, looks like a major project.
I assume I annoy the crap out of most most everyone here but this really is the right thread for me. I'm just hell on thread discipline.
I just learned about a monkey that I had no idea existed before today. The 'gelada' of the Ethiopian Highlands. Pretty cool.
Go for it.

hm, possibly a bit stringy.
They call me the ThreadKiller...
second bout with the huge pine tree, legs bleeding nicely, i need another thing to focus on, like lunch.
had to settle for a second rate sandwich, then I hit Trader Joe's, which is a fast paced place for me...chain saw man has been summoned to deal with the cranky tree. Big sucker.
after 150 of our huge pines toppled or broke in half four years ago, I thought I was on easy street, but there are a few others left within range of the house, and one of them nearly clocked us the other night.
Amazing how many branches, and how much greenery, those suckers have...I'm cut and scraped to a bloody pulp.
Man oh Manitoba, those Canada wild fires are smoking us up real real bad today (and yesterday).
fresh pack of Band Aids (100!) so look out Big Pine Tree!
Bucolic scene this morning, six point buck plus doe plus fawn toddled thru the yard at 5:45...(we're awake because the hound we're dogsitting starts whining then, we are saints).
trees and shrubbery like to hang out together...
Boy, the COVID thread sure turned ugly . . . and stupid!
If (when?) I'm charged with any crime, I want Stray Gator to be my lawyer.
I want a thread where I can argue vociferously about COVID policy, Pop’s coaching acumen, the merits of Simone Biles’ internal motivations, and the fate of the entire ACC and $EC in one fell swoop please.
Thanks in advance.
I don't love this, but my definition of what makes someone a bad person and how many bad people there are in the world has expanded greatly in the last 6 years or so. And it includes a decent number of people whom I considered to be friends and more than a few family members.
Yeah I hope your nephews are okay as well.
Thanks. I suspect they’ll be fine. They’re all healthy.
Like a lot of families, mine has lost a few to COVID. All extended, all elderly, all with other ailments. It’s been sad though, they’ve often passed relatively alone given the restrictions in the hospitals on access and visitation.

Like a lot of families, mine has lost a few to COVID. All extended, all elderly, all with other ailments. It’s been sad though, tI have lost 7 Respiratory therapist friends. A bunch of buddies are frontline health care workers.
Sometimes when I swim laps, I race the person in the lane next to me. They don't know we're racing though.
The world of bad people keeps expanding too.
Ok, question for the group. Apparently, “ “Peter Jackson was being pressured from above to have one of the four Hobbits die in the film, even though they survived in the books. Luckily, Jackson didn’t succumb to the demands of the producers.”
Let’s say PJ loses and has to off a hobbit. Which one do you choose? How does he die? Why?
That is why I tend to dislike movies. The directors/producers always want to change something from the book that doesn't need changing. The book is almost always better. One exception - How to Make an American Quilt. The book sucked, the movie was slightly better. Only slightly.
I"d have shot them all for a decent sized bag of Cheetos (crunchy).
I do think it would have also been funny if they offed one super early I. The quest or just as they got back to the Shire, which was VERY different in the movie than in the books.
Several of you will appreciate this Olympic-themed tweet. NSFW language in the tweet so don't click if you're offended by 4-letter words.
Yes, feels like I'm using this these days.

I've managed to pollute 3 threads this morning. Time to go to work.
I’m really surprised no one chose Samwise for movie version sacrifice
So much emotional depth in those eyes…

I've always been a bit intimidated by the LTE, thinking I would need to catch up from the beginning so I avoided it. Now I see that it's mostly just drivel without any direction. How fun!
What to do when the Ultra Mega Rolls of Charmin I just bought are too big for my toilet paper holders? (Apologies if this has been asked and answered ;))
A boxing gym. Why? No I work in medical device sales and I just got promoted to the Chagrin of my former co-workers. So the person most likely to lodge the first complaint lived down to expectations. I am typing a very short response telling her I appreciate her concern and then why she is wrong. I assume she will immediately admit I'm right. Or cut my head off. But it will definitely be one of those.
I was firm, but reasonable. I was also aware that this is a precedent setting email. We are establishing a baseline here. I didn't over-explain, I merely countered her assertions. I don't owe an explanation for my rationale. I get to define that. What she deserves is an answer to her concerns. I gave her that, but she will probably proceed to Defcon 1.
We’re getting Indian take out tonight. The last time we did that the guy said, “oh, this is a big order, how many people?” I of course lied to hide my shame.
See? This is why I can't stay mad at you. I frequently order a whole bunch of food and will receive four or five Forks. We have gone out to dinner and I have ordered and the waitress walked away thinking I ordered for my family of four. You have to have a hobby I guess.

Gonna look you right in the face
Better get yourself together darlin'
Join the human race
How in the world you gonna see
Laughin' at fools like me?
Who on earth d'you think you are
A super star?
Well, right you are
Well, we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well, we all shine on
Everyone come on
The conversation is flying fast and furious in the conference realignment thread over yonder.
College athletics are just about dead to me at this point.
Yeah, it's the weekend. In Texas. In summer.
